As if in a trance, Sidharth stood still. He was going quietly insane.
Time didn't seem to move anymore. Everything seemed to stand still...
The doctor stepped out of the Operating theatre, that bought Sidharth back to his senses.
He walked up to him slowly
"Mr. Khurana..." the doctors tone was solemn.
Sidharth was unable to read his face..If the news was good or bad...
Sidharth wanted to bombard him with questions, but the words didn't come out...
"Roshni is stable now.."
Sidharth took a deep sigh of relief.
"What happened? All the monitors were normal. Her eyes were moving under her lids. ..then suddenly she...she..."
"She had a small clot in one of her veins...which needed to be removed immediately. .."
Sidharth dropped his head, shaking it, hoping
he was in some horrific nightmare.
He looked back at the doctor
"But she'll be okay now...how long before she wakes up.."
Desperate for any positive information, the words rushed from his lips
The doctor took a deep breath, before continuing
"She still needs to respond to the medication. She still needs to wake up..."
The doctor turned and walked away, leaving Sidharth heart to sink further.
ROSHNI ROOM
Sidharth reached out and tucked the blanket gently over her.
Resting his head on the side of the bed, he felt the tears fall down his face.
He felt uncomfortable talking aloud, but he remembered Simmi words
"When I was in coma, she used to talk to me everyday. I could hear every single word. Those words gave me the motivation to get better"
He sat up straight. ..
"Roshni my love, I'm here for you
as always, as I promised.
Just return to me please.
You are the most important thing in my life...
You are my everything"
Playing with her hair with his fingertips
"I love you. I want you back in my arms, and I know you love me too"
He ran his fingertips over her skin, caressing her arm.
There was nothing else to say. .
"Would you like me to sing for you, my love? "
In a low whisper, Sidharth sang the words into her ear..

He reflected back on all the occasions, they had spent together.
"I hope I'm not boring you with my singing..but if I am, too bad.
You'll just have to get up and stop me..."
He waited but there was no movement.
"I love you Roshni" he whispered in her ear
"Please wake up, I beg you..."
He watched the monitor, and noticed her pulse had increased.
Was that a good sign?
Could she hear him?
Raj and Simmi entered the hospital room.
They hated the grief on their sons face.
He hadn't eaten or left Roshni bedside, and had deep circles under his eyes.
Simmi ran a finger through his hair
"Sid, you need to eat something. You need to get some rest. It's been more than a day, without food and rest. ..:
She hated the hospital. It reminded of her six long years, when she was in coma.
Exhausted physically and mentally, Sidharth held Simmi hand
"I know Mom, but I just can't leave her. What if she wakes up and I'm not here for her. What then?
"She'll think I don't care, that I don't love her"
He shook his head
"Okay, just take a break for a few minutes, for me please. Just long enough to eat something and clear your head. It'll be good for you"
Sidharth was madly in love with Roshni. Leaving her bedside wasn't an option.
He began to massage his temples.
"I love her so much Mom Dad. I don't know what I'll do if anything happens to her"
Simmi shook her head and wiped away his tears.
"We know you love her Sid. Nothing will happen to her. She will come back to us. Roshni is our light. She is our Angel. ...she would never leave us in the dark"
Simmi moved closer to Roshni and kissed her on her forehead.
"You call me Ma nah. Ma ki baat nahin mano gi kya. Come back to us beta. ..come back to us.
We're missing you my child"
Raj held Sidharth arm
"Come son let's get some fresh air...But first eat
this first. Roshni made for you before her accident:.."
Sidharth eyes lowered to the palak paneer.
"She made this for me?" He smiled
"Yes Sid. She wanted to make dinner for you. All your favourite dishes. After all her husband was coming after three days. She wanted to impress you"
Another tear fell from his eyes as he took a bite of the paneer, that Roshni had so lovingly made for him
He kissed her hand
"It's delicious my love. ..its delicious. ...but you know I'm already lutoo over you. You don't need to impress me"
Raj took hold of Sidharth, and lead him outside.
Sidharth turned to look over his shoulder at Roshni
"I'll be back in five minutes Baby.."
As Sidharth walked he noticed a shadow lingering around Roshni room.
His mind began to work overtime.
"Ah Dad, it's okay I'll go alone. You stay with Mom. ..and don't leave Roshni. Not even.for a minute. .."
"Why what happened...Sid?"
"Ahh" not knowing how to respond
"Nothing Dad. I'm just being a little paranoid. Just stay with Roshni. I'll be back".
Sidharth followed the shadow...down to the reception of the hospital.
He took a closer look it was Dev.
Sidharth sucked in a deep breath and threw himself at him
"Dev. ." He yelled catching him of guard.
He dragged him by the collar, ad onlookers gawked in disbelief.
He dragged him until they were out of the hospital.
It was cold, but Sidharth couldn't feel anything. Fire pumped through his veins as he held onto him.
"Scumbag!! You did this to my Roshni. Your responsible for her condition. You Bas...d!!"
Sid exploded not waiting for an answer.
He gripped his collar tighter, and with his left hand punched him hard on him hard.
This continued.
Sidharth pounded him with punches, until his face became bloody.
He punched him again
"My Roshni is fighting for her life, because of you"
Dev looked at him and simply smiled
"Like I said if I can't have her, neither can you"
Sidharth rage knew no bounds
"You Bas...d"
He was about to hit him again, when Rahul came and held him from behind.
"Let me go Rahul. He's responsible for my Roshni accident. I'll kill him. I'll kill him".
Sidharth released himself from Rahul grip, and encircled his throat with his hands, ready to squeeze the life out of him.
With great difficulty, Rahul managed to force him away.
Dev stood smiling. He was not at all sorry for what he had done.
"I see Roshni is still alive...but for how long. And even if she survives."
He smirked
"Maybe next time she won't be so lucky..."
"I'll kill you" screamed Sidharth
"If you ever come near my Roshni again I'll kill you. I'll make sure you hang for what you did to my Roshni"
Sid screamed and yelled, desperately struggling to release himself from Rahul grip.
"Oh really. But I didn't do anything...I have no idea what your talking about...
He paused wiping the blood away from his lip
"It's just your word against mine...do you have any proof."
Dev shrugged his shoulders and repeated
"Your word against mine" as he walked away laughing
Dev turned around
"Oh and give my love to Roshni. Tell her I'll be seeing her again. If she survives that is"
When he was out of sight, Rahul finally let go of an enraged Sidharth.
"He's responsible for the accident Rahul..."
Sidharth narrated the whole incident to Rahul, with tears and frustration.
"Bro. He will be punished. We will find the proof we need. He will pay for what he's done to our Roshni"
Sidharth looked at Rahul. His face red with rage
"Then find it Rahul. Find it...I want him hanged for it. I want him to pay with his last breath for what he did to Roshni.."
He took several deep breaths before walking back to Roshni room.

Simmi was sitting by Roshni bedside, holding her hand.
She looked back at Sid as he entered the room.
"Any change in her condition Mom" asked Sid
Simmi shook her head and stood up to let Sid take her place next to Roshni.
Sidharth held her hand and kissed it.
He looked at her. She lay motionless. Nothing was changing. His heart began to flutter
"Please, Roshni come back to me... I can't, and I won life without you"
The clock was ticking away. Time was passing by, but his Roshni remained unconscious. Oblivious to her surrounding.
Sidharth tears refused to stop.
He didn't want her to see him like this, if she woke up.
He wiped away his tears, but it was no use as he couldn't stop new tears from falling again.
He always considered himself a tough man. He was strong in all areas, but one. Roshni. She had become his greatest weakness.
He couldn't lose her. She had to be okay.
He didn't know how he would go on living without her.
His chest felt heavy, and his insides burned at the thought of loosing her.
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, before looking back at her.
"Did you miss me Baby"
Roshni pulse had quickened at the sound of his voice.
He looked at the monitor and a small smile appeared.
"Can she hear me. Is that why..." he thought..
"Hmm so you did miss me".
He lowered his head to Roshni ear and whispered
"Roshni I'm here. Please wake up. Come back to me Jaan"
He took a deep sigh and continued to talk in her ear
"Don't do this to me Baby. You said I was your Jaan. Your Jaan is dying every second seeing you like this. Please come back to me. I love you Roshni.
I love you so much"
Her hand moved in his.
It wasn't a squeeze, merely a subtle movement.
His eyes darted to hers.
She was squinting, trying to open her eyes.
"Mom look, Roshni trying to open her eyes"
Tears welled up in his eyes
"Come on Roshni. ...open your eyes..."
Minutes past by...
Then Sidharth witnessed the most beautiful sight ever.
Roshni big brown eyes, sparkling again, staring at him.
"Oh my God Roshni" he cried out loud. Not concerned by the tears swarming from his eyes
"Sidharthhh. .." her voice was very weak
"I'm here Roshni. .I'm here" his voice cracked at the overwhelming joy of hearing her voice.
He lay his head against her forehead.
Lost for words
He kissed her and pulled her up as gently as he could into his arms.
He just wanted to be close to her.
"Oh God Roshni. I was so worried. I was so scared. I love you so much"
He stared into her eyes again. His smiled loving the sight in front of him
"Oh God thank you. Thank you..."
Simmi and Raj hugged each other as they watched their children in each others arms.
Roshni looked around bewildered
Then her gaze came back to Sidharth
"Are you okay Sidharth" she asked. Her voice weak. The words could barely be heard
Sidharth laughed at her question
"Baby, your the one lying in a hospital bed, and your asking me if I'm okay"
His tears continued to fall as he caressed her cheeks with his fingertips.
"But since you asked. I'm more than okay now Roshni. I just got my life back"
She tried to speak but her throat was dry...The words barely came out
"Woh call...your accident. .."
Understanding what Roshni was trying to say, he put a finger on her lips.
"Ssshhh relax Roshni relax. I'm okay"
She looked around and smiled at Raj and Simmi
"Where am I...how did I..."
"Beta you were in a car accident. ..but your okay
now" said Simmi as she walked closer and kissed her.
"Car accident. ..." Roshni tried to remember
Sidharth turned to Raj
"Dad call the doctor. My Roshni is awake"
Raj ran out of the room.
Roshni struggled to make sense of everything.
Sidharth just looked at her smiling. A smile that had been lost for the last few days.
Roshni head was throbbing and she was extremely thirsty.
Sidharth couldn't take his eyes of her. He couldn't stop staring.
Roshni tried to speak, but nothing emerged..
"Ssh Roshni relax...just relax...I love you Roshni.
All that matters is that you are awake and in my arms"
Roshni looked at him and smiled.
The Doctor entered the room and walked directly over to Roshni. The nurse began to check all her vitals, as the doctor checked her eyes and studied the monitors.
The doctor patted Sidharth on the shoulder.
"This is excellent" satisfied with her recovery
"This is a marvellous sign. We have witnessed a real miracle right in front of us.
Sidharth eyes brightened with enthusiasm.
"She's responding very well to the medication. Your a very lucky Girl...Mrs Khurana" he said aiming a smile at Sidharth.
"She's going to be okay nah. .." Sidharth asked
"She's going to be just fine. We will continue this course of medication. She'll be sleepy most of the time, but her body needs plenty of rest .."
He looked at Roshni
"Your husband loves you very much. It's probably because of his prayers that you have recovered so quickly."
Roshni looked up at Sid and smiled
"I know he does"
The doctor made his exit, to check. Up on his other patients.
Roshni beckoned Sidharth to come nearer, and whispered slowly in his ears
"I love you Sidharth"
"And I love you my love" he said placing another kiss on her forehead.
Roshni turned her face and looked at the water jug on her side table.
"I'm thirsty Sidharth"
Sidharth smiled and delicately raised her up against the pillow and gave her sips of water.
Roshni stared up into his beautiful loving eyes, and noticed the dark circles under his eyes
"You didn't sleep kya. .."
Sidharth shook his head
"No. I didn't. But I think you slept enough for both of us"
She smiled and then suddenly
"Oh God Sidharth" she remembered something
"What is it Baby. You okay. ..are you in pain" Sid asked concerned
"Oh God. I was making Palak paneer for you. I didn't switch of the stove. Oh no I hope it didn't burn..."
Everyone in the room burst out laughing
Sidharth looked at her, and took a deep breath
"Meri pagan biwi, you scared me for a moment. ... Welcome back"
Sidharth stroked her cheek
"No.Your Palak Paneer didn't burn. It was the most amazing Palak paneer I've ever tasted Meri Jaan"
He smiled and looked up at his parents
"See Mom Dad. I've been burning from the inside out, seeing my Roshni unconscious. My eyes are burning still, and all she can think of is the Palak Paneer burning".
Roshni narrowed her eyes
"I was just ..." sulking
He then bent down and whispered in her ears
"My kisses are adding up my love. I'm waiting impatiently. .so whenever your ready"
Roshni blushed and looked away, hoping nobody had heard.
Just then DD walked into the room.
Her eyes welled up with tears seeing Roshni awake...
Roshni looked up at her
"Mom aap yahan. How did you find the time"
DD looked at her ashamed of herself. ... .
Sidharth realised that mother daughter needed some time together
"Ah Mom Dad. ..I'm starving. Let's grab something to eat".
They left the room leaving DD and Roshni staring at each other...
DD made her way towards Roshni, and sat on the edge of the bed
"Mom. .I hope I got enough publicity for you. I'm sure my accident must have made headlines. The Great DD Patel daughter "Car Accident'..."
Roshni tried to put up a false smile...
"Say what you want Baacha. I deserve it"
Roshni eyes shot up.
"Did you just call me Baacha. ...you called me Baacha" tears of joy ran down Roshni cheeks.
She couldn't believe what she had just heard.
"Yes I called you Baacha, because your my little baby. I know I don't deserve your forgiveness for all that I have done. But seeing you lay there unconscious made me realise the value you have in my life"
DD held her hand
"I've been a terrible mother. But please find it in your heart to forgive me. Just give me one chance Baacha...I'll make it up to you promise"
Roshni smiled. She couldn't belive it.
She stretched out her arms
"Mom I've always loved you no matter what. Today is the most precious day of my life. My mom called me baacha...I love you Mom"
"I love you too my Baacha"
DD came closer and they both ed hugged each other crying.
Sidharth stood by the doorway, as tears rolled down his cheeks yet again. But this time they were tears of joy...
