Part 3
Alone
By Edgar Allan Poe
From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were; I have not seen
As others saw; I could not bring
My passions from a common spring
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow; I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone;
And all I loved, I loved alone.
Then- in my childhood, in the dawn
Of a most stormy life- was drawn
From every depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still:
From the torrent, or the fountain,
From the red cliff of the mountain,
From the sun that round me rolled
In its autumn tint of gold,
From the lightning in the sky
As it passed me flying by,
From the thunder and the storm,
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view
"Did she really?"
"How could her mother let her?"
"Why is it every one assumes a girl has to sleep with some one to get a part?"
"Because that's the way it is in real world."
"It's a man's world! And she is pretty to look at, and from what I heard she would do everything to get a part!"
Rakhi heard the comments, standing behind the wall. A tear slipped down her cheek, it burned her on it's way down. The poem by Poe in her English literature class made her feel her loneliness more than ever before. The grapevine never stopped. It always made her feel lower than what she already felt. No one understood her and they all belittled her ambition to be a dancer.
Her English professor made an indecent proposal to her at Mithibai College. She told him that she would expose him to everyone, and cried all the way home. From that day forward she promised herself that she would concentrate on her career. In doing so, she sacrificed something; she sacrificed the etiquette, manners that she could learn at college because she hated attending it. Her mother was not much help, not being very educated. She used her brashness and her verbal defense to defend herself.
In the mean time, she worked odd jobs. She once worked as a server at Tina Munim's and Anil Ambani's wedding.
The next break came soon in year 2003, right after she finished school and went to college. It was a big breakthrough came for Rakhi when she was cast in Chura Liya Hai Tumne in 2003.
In Churaliyaa Hai Tumne, Rakhi Sawant played Sheena (LOL), who along with Om played by Gulshan Grover and Chingaar played by Vijay Raaz are part of Tina's uncle's gang and confront Tina played by Esha Deol.
Although, she received praises for her dance as the item girl, she knew it was not enough. She wanted more, Bollywood was not exactly calling her with open arms. She had small roles in Om, 2nd, Bad boys, Aanch etc. But they were all small roles, not enough to pay for her living expenses.
She tried anything for getting attention. People branded her obnoxious, vulgar and woman without morals. But she looked down her petite nose on them.
In year 2004, she acted in some more small roles in movies like Paisa vasool, Masti and Mein Hoon na. More followed in year 2005 and 2006.
But the biggest attention getter was in year 2006, when she entered a reality show called Big Boss.
Rakhi made a spectacle of herself, but caught the eye of many directors and producers. She threw temper tantrums and histrionics. But she was ousted from Big Boss in the fourth week itself.
But controversy made good sense for the ratings; and the producers wanted Rakhi to come back to liven up the show. When she came back, she walked in with a knowing smile and gifts for all the members of the Big Boss. She suggested that they were from their girl friends and families. No one believed that the gifts were really from their family members and shunned her. By ostracizing her, they rankled her but only made her more determined to stay on. Rahul Roy went on to win the first place as Rakhi got eliminated. But her purpose was served.
