Let's know from the telly stars themselves, what's that weirdest thing that has found it's place in their mouth! And the replies were as interesting as your guesses, as found by Prashant Golecha.

Rampyari ko gussa kyun aata hai?

The seven-month pregnant buffalo is suffering from mood swings on the sets of Jab Love Hua

Sapana Patil Poojary

Rampyari's co-stars: Priya Badlani and Sudeep Sahir in Jab Love Hua
Rampyari, the darling buffalo of Raghu (Sudeep Sahir) in Jab Love Hua recently went berserk while shooting for the serial at Film City. Allegedly, the buffalo suddenly lost her cool and began running around wildly on the sets. Sources from the unit say, "Rampyari is generally very co-operative. She quickly understands what is expected of her. We have shot with her so many times and never had any problem. In fact, she has become a darling on the sets."

Pratik Chavan, executive producer recalls, "Rampyari was required to sit for a particular scene. She is usually very co-operative. But that day she refused to follow instructions. We waited patiently for some time, but she wouldn't perform. We were running out of time and had
to do something to save the day. So finally, we hired another buffalo to complete the scene. And this one too was difficult to manage, and went wild. Thankfully, no one was injured."

A source from the production house recounts Rampyari's tantrum. He says, "Rampyari is seven months pregnant. She has been hired from a cow shed in Goregaon. Her owner probably sends her to the producers to make some extra money, since she cannot be milked for the time being. Having to work during her pregnancy must have taken a toll on her health and mind, hence she rebelled."

Vanity (un)fair

Actors of Jab Love Hua are irritated at being cooped up in one vanity van and working in uncomfortable conditions

Back to Section Stories

Sapana Patil Poojary

A still from Jab Love Hua

Last week, we reported how a seven-month pregnant buffalo Rampyari went wild after she was compelled to work long hours on the sets of Jab Love Hua. After we carried the report, some actors from the serial called to tell us that they are often treated as badly.

Apparently, they are not provided basic facilities like vanity vans. And on those rare occasions when they are provided with a vanity van, only one van comes to the sets which obviously cannot accommodate the entire cast. But because the actors do not have a choice, all of them end up being cooped up in a vanity van that actually has the capacity to accommodate only six people at a time.

An actor, on condition of anonymity, says, "Most of the scenes of Jab… are shot outdoors. We do not shoot in the comfort of studios which are equipped with make-up rooms. Hence, it is very important for us to be provided with vanity vans."

A unit member reveals, "The initial episodes of the serial were shot in a small village in Satara district. Most of these scenes were shot outdoors and yet the actors were not provided with vanity vans. There weren't any toilets in a village. And the hotels were half an hour away from the location. The situation got extremely uncomfortable for all the women."

Rahul Lohani, who plays Bhola , admits that shooting hasn't been a pleasant experience. He says, "We were shooting in the hot sun for the most part of the day. We had no shelter. Eventually, I developed an eye infection. I was told to avoid the sun and wear sunglasses all the time. But because I was shooting continuously, I could wear sunglasses only in between shots. The problems continued even in Mumbai."

Apparently, the entire cast is given a chance to use the vanity van on a rotation basis. The problem arises when the earlier shift stretches beyond its time and when the actors from the next shift arrive early to do their make-up.
The actors were left helpless when their producers turned a deaf ear to their request for more vanity vans. Rahul says, "Director Tony Singh said that the executive producers would handle the problem. Even the channel representatives didn't help us."

Another actor says, "I guess such problems happen because the executive producers who are appointed by the production houses are trainees who lack commitment and do not take responsibility for anything."

When contacted, Tony Singh replied that he didn't want to comment on the issue, since it was simply an attempt at creating a controversy.

Meanwhile Saurabh Tiwari, creative head, Zee TV, said that he was not aware of the actors having approached the channel with this problem.

Priya Badlani and Sudeep Sahir in Jab Love Hua
Actor Sudeep Sahir aka Raghu, got his gift one day prior to his birthday, on the sets of Jab Love Hua. The actor had to shoot 20 hours at a stretch, driving a truck for the first time, to earn one-day leave on his birthday.

When contacted Sudeep said, "When I requested the production house for one-day leave, they asked me to complete my scenes beforehand. The scene required me to drive a truck on a hilly area. I had a tough time managing the gear and the clutch. At the end, I was supposed to stop the truck in front of the camera, but almost bumped into it. It was a narrow escape."

The actor also hurt his legs while doing the stunts. "I have never driven a truck before and I was nervous," Sudeep added.

But, there was a big surprise waiting for the actor at home. "My wife Anantika took me on a trip to Goa for celebration. It's been my best birthday gift so far," he said.

Sop story

Deeya Singh refuses to let Rahul of Jab Love Hua sign a new serial, has promised him an increased track instead

Back to Section Stories

Sapana Patil Poojary

Prize catch: Mohit Mallik
Mohit Mallik, aka Rahul in Jab Love Hua was very excited when he got an offer to play the negative lead in Kulvaddhu on Sony. The actor was all set to sign on the dotted line, when he suddenly backed off saying that he didn't have dates. Sources say that although the actor had to back off against his wishes. Apparently it was Deeya and Tony Singh (producers of Jab…) who did not want him to take on the new show, since he would have to give more time there, being the lead character. They refused to let him go.

Mohit says, "I was offered the role of Agni in Kulvaddhu. But I am already acting in two serials - Jab Love Hua on Zee and Betiyaan Apni Ya Paraya Dhan (Star One). I had a meeting with the producers but the dates couldn't be worked out. Kulvaddhu obviously needed more dates, since I was supposed to play the lead. If I had accepted that offer, I wouldn't have been able to do justice to the role."

So did Deeya and Tony ask him not to take on the serial? Mohit says, "Yes. Actually when I spoke to Deeya, she told me that she wanted me to be in her show. They've assured me that my track will become more prominent (he has recently re-entered their show) in the serial. So I decided to stay back. I believe whatever happens, happens for the best. After all, Jab… has given me a good publicity."

Anuj Saxena, producer of Kulvaddhu, said, "We wanted to cast Mohit as Agni which is an important negative lead in Kulvaddhu. But Mohit has cited date problems for not doing our show. So we started considering other options and zeroed in on Shaleen Bhanot who fitted the bill. We are planning few other shows and may be we can get Mohit work in those projects".

Puppy pass ho gaya!

The actors of daily soap Jab Love Hua have adopted a litter of orphaned puppies on their sets

Puppy love: The cast of Jab Love Hua

The set of Jab Love Hua at Film City (Goregaon East) has turned into a playground for puppies since the actors and crew of the soap adopted the litter and even arranged for someone to care for them.

Rahul Lohani aka Bhola says, "It all started when a bitch gave birth to a few puppies on the set of our serial. At that time, we were not attached to the dogs. But, one fine day, we discovered that the mother was not around. Later, we were told that she was taken away by a panther at night. After that unfortunate incident, everyone on the set has started caring for the orphaned pups. In fact most of the actors now arrive a little early on the set so that they can play with them. The unit also makes sure that they have plenty of biscuits and other food. The set is now their home."

But how are they ensuring the protection of the pups now? "We are shooting at Abu Village where panthers attack very often at night. So the village head (Sarpanch) has adopted one puppy on our request. They have made a hut where we keep the puppies at night when we leave the place after shooting. But, we are scared as the puppies are very naughty and panthers can easily make them their prey. So, we are looking for animal orphanage for them," Rahul adds.

Adds Sudip Sahir aka Raghu says, "Everyone from the actors to the spot boys is attached to the puppies. In fact the puppies are the common bonding factor on the sets right now."

Working on an empty stomach

Back to Section Stories

Sapana Patil Poojary

A still from Jab Love Hua
The unit of Jab Love Hua (Zee TV) have more to worry about than creating a bank of episodes. Since the serial has started working in two units - one at Film City and the other at Madh Island, there is a lack of food for the crew and actors. Although the schedule of the unit at Film City is going pretty smoothly, Madh Island unit is facing several problems. An actor, on condition of anonymity explains,"The schedules are being extended by two hours so our schedule that is to end at 2 pm ends at 4 pm. The night schedule, expected to wind up at 10 pm, extends to midnight. It is not possible for us to carry our food from home, particularly when many of us live alone. Are we expected to go home hungry, due to delays by the production house? Isn't it the production house's responsibility to provide us food? It's just a clever way of cutting costs by assuming that the schedules will take place as planned and hence not ordering food." Another actor says, "We could manage on our own if it had been any other location. But there aren't any good restaurants in Madh Island. What about the technicians, the spot boys and light men? They spend more time on the sets than us. At least, they should be provided with food. Producers are calculative even when it comes to food."

A production member admitted that such situations do arise. But says, "A few days ago, our schedule stretched from 9 am to 10 pm. But since the unit could not wind up by that time, it was decided to extend it and complete the shoot before pack-up. Normally, lunch is provided but not dinner. But since it was extended, we ordered for food. The food obviously doesn't get delivered instantly. Actors who were working since morning felt frustrated. But that is not the production house's fault."

However, creative producer Persis Sigenporia denied that any problem existed. He said, "Our unit has had no problems with regards to food. We understand its importance. It is a prime necessity and we all work for it. We wouldn't want our actors to look starved."

Hectic schedules leave TV actors with no time to exercise and thus make them over weight. Priya Badlani, who essays the character of Aanya Shroff in Jabb Love Hua is one such actress. She's put on so much weight of late.

"Yes, I've put on three-four extra kilos and am working hard to lose it. In fact I feel I'm obese and find it difficult to act," she admits. And the show too is not doing great. Rumour is the production house is seriously considering a twist in the plot, hoping to revive the sagging TRPs. (Sampurn)

Amma-tter of modesty

Small clothes create a big problem for Jaanki Amma in Jab Love Hua

Back to Section Stories

Ranjib Mazumder

Rameshwari's modest look in Jab Love Hua
Rameshwari aka Jaanki Amma recently had to shield her modesty while shooting for Jab Love Hua. Amma was not amused when she was asked to wear revealing clothes on screen. Obviously, the idea of her preening in skimpy, itsy-bitsy shockers was hardly befitting to her character.

According to a production house source, "The story takes a turn where the protagonist Raghu is getting married in Mumbai and his family comes to the city for the marriage. So, the production house wanted Rameshwari (who plays Raghu's mother) to become the Mumbai mem and wear skimpy outfits. Rameshwari was offended and refused to wear the outfits. Then, a heated argument followed."

Rameshwari confirmed the news of the fireworks on the sets. She says, "I was really put off by the way they were giving instructions. They did not even bother to ask me and I certainly did not like it. In fact, their demands were almost threatening."

"We were given a few backless modern outfits, which I found very obscene, both for my age and character. I don't have a problem in wearing simple western outfits as I wear them off-screen. But, those skimpy clothes were too much! Moreover, they didn't seem clued in to the fact that they are killing the essence of the show. The serial is based on rural life and we all have only worn 'decent' Indian costumes so far. I finally settled for a regular western gown that suited my age and character," Rameshwari adds.

The senior actress tones down her outspokenness by adding, "I have got a good feedback for my role in Jab… Apart from these small problems, things are almost fine."

Doctor's order?

Has Poonam Gulati been seeing a married doctor for the last four years?

Back to Section Stories

Ranjib Mazumder

Jodi kamaal ki: Poonam and Mahesh
Poonam Gulati (Shubhra of Saat Phere) has been seeing a doctor named Mahesh Chitnis for the last four years. Poonam and Mahesh have been open about their relationship even though Mahesh is married and has a two-year-old son.

A close friend of Poonam says, "Poonam and Mahesh's friendship started when both of them used to host a show on Doordarshan. Mahesh was not much into acting at that time as he was busy with his medical practice. Poonam eventually moved into the television industry and got busy with her work. Last year when Poonam was suffering from jaundice Mahesh took good care of her. Poonam used to go to his clinic at midnight after finishing her shoot and Mahesh would be there for her. Since last year, they have been more open about their relationship. Although, Mahesh is married and has a two-year-old son, they are very much in love. Both of them meet for dinners and Mahesh also accompanies Poonam to parties. Poonam also insisted that the production team of Antakshari get Mahesh as her singing partner in the show."

According to a source from Antakshari, "Mahesh was Poonam's partner in the show only because of her insistence. In Antakshari, there is a round where you have to run through water to reach the buzzer. Poonam refused to run in the water and the shooting was stalled for two hours. However, when Mahesh asked Poonam to go ahead with the round, she immediately agreed."

Poonam says, "Yes, I told the Antakshari team to include Mahesh in my team because he's a good friend. Yes, I refused to go through water for the buzzer round because I was dressed inappropriately. But when Mahesh asked me I agreed to do it."

On being probed further, she said, "We have known each other for a long time. Last year, Mahesh took care of me, and I used to go to his dispensary after shooting at night as I was being treated for jaundice. Mahesh has been a pillar of support for me. And we do go to parties together. But I am not dating him, he is just a special friend."

According to Mahesh, "Poonam called me for Antakshari and I was more than eager to participate in the show. We go out together because we are close friends. I am married and Poonam is just a friend."
