The Show That Could Have Been

Hello fellow IF-ers,
I am new to this amazing community and I am so excited to be here!

Coming straight to the point.

IKNMP is a show that started with a bang. I loved the fact that Indian television finally had a female lead in Ragini, who was strong, determined and flawed. (I have had enough of the abla naari shows 😕) Ragini and Nachiket (Please, no Neil-veel) form the heart of the show. Their chemistry to say the least, is crackling. Their flashback scenes (Not the overly shown Mere bache-tumhare bache ones, but the really cutesy ones, exploring their relationship) are the scenes which leave me wanting more.

And the kids. They should have been the supporting characters. (Instead we get stuck with Pam and Nivedita. Gosh!😡) When you introduce a show with a tagline of 'Talaak pati-patni ka hora hai, ma-baap ka nahi', I expect that you delve deeper into the tagline. But instead we get stuck with fake marriages and weird obsessive lovers. Anyway, my point being, five kids. Five kids and both sets of parents did a shoddy job. Nishi can't see beyond Jignesh. Aarav can't see beyond money and materialistic luxuries. Ranbir who cannot get over the hatred for his own mother. The only kids I like are Agam and Suhani because that's how a sibling relationship should be. I remember this one scene before the US Khanna's fly down for Nishi's wedding, where Suhani hugs Agam and it was so warm and endearing because that's the kind of relationship I have with my own brother. A relationship where you talk, fight and care about each other, all at the same time. So, yes it angers me when I see Ranbir be a complete douche to his brother. That is now how family behaves.

And another problem I have with the kids is their ungrateful nature. But that's a story for another post.😊

Yes. It's a TV show. They are supposed to be over-dramatic, for the sake of TRPs. But is it that difficult to make a show with it's heart in the right place? This show could have been amazing with just the central seven characters trying to explore the repercussions of a divorce and separation, trying to understand how the twisted relationships between them could work. For once, I wish this show would concentrate on being all heart rather than on trying to go down the same formulaic road.

Thanks for reading, peeps! Would love to hear your thoughts.😊

perfectly written...its exactly my thoughts...
they are drifting away from the original concept...in every scenes...the 2 slimy snakes are shove upon our faces...its irritates me to the core ...pam's screeching makes my ears bleed blood...I had too always mute the tv...2 slimy snakes are not enough...we have another villain join the gang...its none other than ranbir...too much negativity spoils the show...its nowhere near the concept...

my fav kids are also agam-suhani...the best siblings duo...its very touching to see an elder brother conveys his happiness...pain to his kiddo sister...and she gives advise...this 2 kids are very sensible...matured...calm...composed and well-mannered...even now agam-suhani are having only phone convos...but one could feel the depths of their bonding through the chords of our hearts...this is how siblings behave in real life...and this is the reason why raksha bandhan is being celebrated...I am proud of agam-suhani...my fav siblings pair...the other 3 kids are plain annoying...irritating...ungrateful...full of themselves...I hate the way when they say harsh words to their mother...

I want to know more abt NR past...what happen that leads to divorce?...what is suhani's mystery?...does ragini knows abt suhani's existence?...who the hell is roopali and what connection she has with neil?...NR bonding with a fresh start...siblings bonding...suhani landing in India and meeting ragini...

I want more of NR..5 kids...especially agam-suhani...siblings bonding...NR bonding with all 5 kids...less of slimy snakes...ranbir's plotting...shilpa's nonsense

Hi, very well written. Agree with you more than 100 %
In fact, I think most of us ventured or veered towards this Show, to see a different kind of equation between the main characters. The Show started with a slightly different concept - of an already estranged couple, with 5 kids. After 15 years, a lot would have changed for all. This is what had excited me - how the two main characters would meet after the hiatus, what they would go through and how the kids would adjust to each other. Of course, there would be issues, but what would have been challenging was to watch the 2 leads surviving these challenges and coming to each other, after realizing that their hearts still wanted the other.

The present Show is a mockery of what it should and could have been. The vamps could have been there 15 years before- why do they need them now?

And EK and her CVs take us lightly because we crib? If they do not respect views of the audience, then they could well make a private movie and watch, until they and salivate and drool to their own downfalls.

Hello Mages!

I completely agree with you on the too much negativity part. It is grating on my ears, eyes, all my senses. They should focus on the wonderful set of actors they have and explore them fully. It hardly makes any sense to open up multiple tracks without even giving us an idea of what the core issue is between Nachiket and Ragini.

And honestly, if it ends up being a stupid misunderstanding (which I am 99% sure, it will be), the whole charm of the show is lost. I love the idea of personality clashes and difference of opinions. But Ekta Kapoor shows hardly ever have any realism in them. So, I am not holding my breath on that.

Ragini definitely has no idea about Suhani, at least it hasn't been indicated in any way. But I so badly want them to be related by blood. Enough of the khoon se rishte se bhi badhkar dil ka rishta. 🤢
I have a feeling, it will be Suhani who bridges the gap between NR.

Unfortunately, Ragini is fiery only with regards to her kids and Nachiket. The promise she showed in the beginning of the show is dying down. Because in all her encounters with Pam, she is so submissive. Hardly saying anything. She needs to give it back. That part of her character is inconsistent. 😡

Poetic 😊 (nice name!)

So, so, so agree with you. They come up with great concepts. But while execution, they fall flat on their faces. I guess they don't believe the show can sustain without the usual shindig. That's where they are wrong. There are many like us who are ready for a new era in television. But it appears to be stuck in a rut.

And also, I don't mind introducing vamps for character development. But here Nivedita serves no purpose because Ragini's possessive and jealous nature has already been established. So, apart from slowing down the happenings, she serves no purpose.

Also, I'm not sure what CVs means? Creative something?

Thanks. I take a poetic license in bashing the CVs (creatives, yes 😉) and hence the id - Poetic 😃

Agree that most of us are ready to experience a new wave of tele-viewing with different kinds of shows, but I guess that's not happening at all.

I so wish ...
