I too discovered the serial months after it began, but even though I tried I could never watch it from the beginning as sane people should. I binged and skipped and made up my own fantasies along the way. Khushi gave me an alternative I adored to the shenanigans of the real soap. I've read and admired the story many a time, can you guess who I could be? ;)

P.S I hope you enjoy the journey as it was intended xx

IPKKND Nostalgia: Episode 001
Meet Arnav & Khushi

This is such a well-written episode. In fact, I would call it a flawless introduction. If this was a novel, it would be a perfect first chapter. It plunges us immediately into the action. With admirable economy, it manages in thirty minutes to introduce us to almost all the significant characters, their relationship to each other, and the major themes.

1. The production values are incredible. I wish the budgets would have allowed them to maintain this level of quality throughout the serial. These early sets and costume reflect the actual universe of these characters. Arnav is the tycoon; he looks the part.

2. I love how Khushi is introduced. We immediately get a glimpse of that attribute of hers which we will see again and again throughout the serial: This heroine has spunk and is solution-oriented. When Payal asks her, "are you scared?" Khushi nods her head. Yet she sets out on her mission. Khushi is not fearless; she feels fear but is not paralyzed by it. This also sets up the pattern that she is devoted to Payal and is the more decisive and capable of the two. The episode also introduces Khushi's special relationship with Devi Maiyya.

3. What I especially loved was how the writers reveal her quick, inventive mind. Waiting at the red light, she makes up a white lie to account for her dress to the onlookers. And of course, I love that wonderful fairytale moment when the boy enquires about her Prince and she looks towards the sky. The shot includes Arnav's helicopter.

4. Arnav's introduction is spectacular. In a few short minutes and without much dialogue, the writers give us the Raizada/Malik history, and thus help us as viewers to begin to understand why he is as he is. And later in the exchange between Arnav and Anjali this is expanded. As an aside, I always wondered why the writers made the decision to give Anjali a disability.

5. I had forgotten this moment until I rewatched it today: On the runway when Arnav opens his eyes the camera cuts to Khushi closing hers. As though something passes between them. I found that effective. It links them and hints at the telepathy we will see in the serial.

The answer to your 4th question is the disability made anjilli a vulnerable woman blindly grateful to her hubby to be married to her and it also explains Arnav's insane care towards her. It was solely bcz of the disability that he never allowed his sister to leave shantivan

I agree. Even the most confident amongst us will question whether our disability influences how people interact with us.

It definitely does. We feel more sympathetic towards people with disability than towards normal people, but in anjilli's case, it made her pathetic and undignified. She was happy to back stab the brother who worshiped the ground she walked on, who never gave two hoots about his wife and her feelings when Shyam slandered her. In your story as well, I used to skip anjilli and yash's scene bcz of the strong dislike I had for her character.

I always thought her character was mollycoddled to the point where she forgets who she is or who she could be without all of this sympathy. We all like to feel special and loved. To be the centre someone's universe. How lucky then that she has both her brother and husbands devoted love? That she is the apple of her family's eye?

Her character could have had a backbone but she didn't. Not everyone does and so she became someone many of us disliked, because her disenchantment from the fairytale irritated us. It shattered her.

On a side note - your Anjali is one of the few I've always liked. Her journey from woman to heroine was subtle but beautiful x

As a student writer, I have learnt that when when my characters behave well all the time, there is no drama. Hence no story. Flawed characters are interesting. And even more interesting is when a paragon like Anjali turns wicked.
