Episode 52

Humay humara Khushi pay pura brahosa hai

She may not know what the largest nation in the world is ... but the Halvai's younger daughter knew one thing ... She knew her Methai ... And, she knows how to charm people ... Who in the world can resist her exicited ... bright eyed ... convolted jalebi like logic that Bediji should allow her the use of his spare garage ... only because wastage of space ... Jaghay Ki killat in huge abadi vala desh like ours was tantamount to committing a crime ... The missing, lovable Bedji and the eager Happyji are no match for our charmer...

Her Devi had shown her the way ... A way to help her insolvent father ... A way to not give up ... A way to stay in Dilli ... much to Buajis delight ... And also a way to ease the unexplained desperation she had felt at the time of leaving. An uncanny sense that she was not meant to leave just yet ... Staying back just felt right ... And after all hadn't it been Devi Maiya's marzi ...

The answer lay in the gol gol liquid gold filled orange colored delights ... As sweet ... as bright ... as colorful ... as delightful ... and even as sweetly twisted as her. No one made Jalabis better than her ... Some people have the gift and she just did ... Her Babuji ... Her JiJi ... even the irascible Buaji had conceded ... But not just jalabies .. the entire gamut of confections .. Balushai... Peda .. Barfee ... Laddu ...

Sugary .. syrpy ... colorful ... heveanly ... decadent ... enticing ... soul satisfying ... mood uplifting ... mouth watering irresistable conconctions ... Who in their right mind does not love Mithai ... They are sitting on a gold mine ... A mohalla ... with no decent dookan with the kind of magical Lucknowi concocetions she is going to whip up ... and a Mandir next door ... What is that, if not a recipie for success ... At least a hundred customers a day ... Guareenteed!!! Who can resist meeta ??? Well maybe ... There are a few ... stoic, dour, gussalay, kadval keral like folk ...

The youngest of all, once again ... Had taken it upon herself to pull them out of this new misfortune ... No grandiose plans ...just a small Methai ki Dukan that is famous at their nukkard ... But the enormity of her family's crisis is staring her on the face ... No small task ... Her courage dips ... How will they do it ... Will they pull it off ... But her sister has faith ... If there is anyone who can do it ... It is her Khushi ...

A hastily cleaned premises ... A few improvised props ... A whole lot of mithai ... A freshly painted, gleaming sign ... Nimbu mirich ... Gainday Kay phool, three enthusiastic proprietors and Jai Devi Ma Mishthan Bhandar is open for business ...

An unexpectedly slow day ... A less than desired performance ... Filled with excitement ... Dejection ... Panic ... Disappointment ... But not reason enough to give up ... It is only the first day ... These things take time ... There is no need to panic just yet ... our young entrepreneur shoulders the task of lifting the sagging spirits of not only Buaji ... Her Jiji but also the dejectedly apologetic Happyji ...

Her only reminder the whole day ... Arnav Singh Raizada, the business tycoon ... staring at her, his face burdened with two deeply fried ... greasy katchories... Maybe he'd like a little hot chutney too ...

Arnav Singh Raizada, meanwhile, is sitting on the dining table listening to his Nani rip his girlfriend apart ... Not only does she not know how to dress properly ... or how to speak with respect to her elders but evidently is a liar too.

He's had enough !!! Sacch mein bhaut ho gaya ... Nani needs to stop belittling this girl... She s a guest and is trying to do things that are completely out of her realm ...

Contrast of two Girls ... Both embroiled in unfamiliar situations ... One a fighter ... Who against all odds, with little means is trying to pull off the unthinkable ... And the other, a privileged diva, who could have made an earnest attempt if she truly wanted to and could have been truthful about it ...

Hello everyone in IPK - 1 land ..

Sorry for the longish hiatus ... but promise to write a detailed post tomorrow .. no post today but just some ramblings ...

I happened to catch todays episode on TV ... & sorry to sound like a broken record .. but seeing KHUSHI the girl who brazenly marches ahead to face problems ... a girl who understood the problems her adoptive parents were going thru .. & instead of sitting behind & crying on cruel fate she marches ahead to find solutions ... after watching this .. i am still scratching my head ... ON KHUSHI the VICTIM ...cant get that ... to me she is MODERN HEROINE personified ..

A girl abandoned/orphaned by a cruel twist of fate ... gets adopted by a family in which the head of the family (Shashi Gupta) ... is not blood related to her ... but for him the sun rises & sets with KHUSHI ... its this sense of duty, devotion, love that Khushi the girl finds a tearing need to repay ...

The acceptance of Payal & Shashi .. gave KHUSHI an identity .. an identity which she brandished at every instance ... KHUSHI KUMARI GUPTA ... hence unlike Payal .. she called herself ... KHUSHI KUMARI GUPTA SINGH RAIZADA ... a tribute to Shashi Gupta .. the man who gave her a second chance at LIFE

now draw parallels to KHUSHI & ARNAV ... both orphaned .. both adopted ... both embraced new identities .. .. which at every point they flaunted ... Arnav Singh Raizada ... & Khushi Kumari Gupta ... That is the IPK we love ... such detailing in characterisations .. such incredible parallels ...

A few months back ... i was discussing our fav characters Arnav & Khushi with some friend ... she mentioned ... Arnav accepted Khushi despite their differences ...

For a moment i was taken aback ... i wondered which show i was devoted to for the last 1.5 years ... coz to me there was NO REAL DIFFERENCE between Arnav & Khushi ... & if only people watch these earlier episodes ... the connections are so clear ...

Todays episode to me was another reflection of the conundrum which was IPK ...

At one end we had La trying to be domesticated ... but making no effort to do the same .. she actually lost & gave up on the battle even before she stepped up on to the plate ... she made no effort to embrace the family trying to accept her

At one end u had Khushi ... who refused to give up .. she would move heaven & earth to put a smile on the people who accepted her in their homes ... she is constantly trying to find ways to serve happiness & remove sadness

At one end you had Shyam ... heartbroken for the moment to have lost sight of his prey ... asking around about her whereabouts ... he was openly showing his concern which he quickly masked as soon as he saw his meal ticket ... ARNAV & ANJALI ... lest they see his REAL FACE .. the CHEAT

At the other end u had Arnav Singh Raizada ... who stood outside Gupta House lost .. his heart & mind at war .. heart saddened by the thot of not seeing that incredible beauty again ... mind rejoicing that he wud be free of her HOLD on him ... he dint need to ask anyone of her whereabouts ...his heart clearly ratified the lock on the door .. that she was gone ... he 2 masked his feelings as soon as he saw his DEVOTION walk towards him ... LEST she see the REAL face .. THE LOVER

In the middle of all this was Anjali .. blissfully unaware of the problems on her doorstep .. blissfully unaware of the twist of fate .. blissfully unaware that she would be the ONE On the outside of a vicious TRIANGLE ... but she would be the ONE ENTANGLED & HURT .. was it any wonder when the makers showed this conundrum .. Anji was shown in the temple ... coz she would need the strength the strength to stand tall & face some brutal blows coming her way ... she had doubt in her eyes when she saw her husband .. but she quickly masked the same from her face & mind .. lest her carefully built house of cards would not tumble ...

The scene or shot of the episode for me is when Arnav who is about to open the car door to escort Anji back ... looks back at the locked door in Gupta House ... & the beautiful RABBA VE renders in the background ... That said it all ... HE WAS NOT READY TO LET GO ...
