i tend to agree about the channel and its constant interference, the crazy chase for trp, which as you pointed out earlier went and made a mess of the very thing that got the trps high. it was never just asr kkg scenes and chemistry, at its base was a story that stirred. there was some cohesiveness, some thought and an aspirational tale of boy meets girl.
life is strange. it is possibly ipk's very success that brought trouble. in september 2011, ipk actually took on balika vadhu in the 8pm time slot and beat it. sp must have been over the moon to challenge colors's hold on that time slot. whatever it was, i think immediately too much scrutiny came ipk's way. trying to keep and strengthen that trp.
minute by minute oversight rarely fosters creativity. and i can almost feel the channel guys badhering the production guys who in turn kept pushing the writers. happens in fields of commercial writing... the good managers know how to keep their calm and keep the craetives enthused, feeling secure. and imaginative.
i believe the managers at the production house fundamentally lacked this ability. when the going is good, mangaing isn't an issue... but when the pressures come, forming a meaningful buffer against them and preventing the fall in product quality is very much their job. especially since they had a good product coming along.
i have also heard the marriage track was forced on them. and there was to be separation, which might have been perfecrt. but the way the writers lost track of khushi's character post marriage was worrying. wonder why that happened. and really despite many hopes, the story never really came back on track... there were inspired moments, even segments, holi comes to mind, but the plot was gone. shyam's back story dissolved. mama ji made pointless (just saw 158, mamaji says, not to worry, i came on the scene at the right moment... i clearly felt he was supposed to come back some day as the guy who would by fairly important in shyam's revelation, even the scenes with shyam at the key makers seemed to point to that... then he disappeared completely... can one really blame just the channel for that?)... payal akash, a track not envisaged earlier but created seeing there was something there, just let go off.
it was obvious, the writers were suffering. their imagination frayed.
gul always mystified me. i have written to her on this forum, when she visited, thanking her for the story and asr. i was proud that a woman producer was doing so well and had fought to create a character that many may have said no to. risk taker, i thought. nice. but what i saw as things went crazy disturbed me. i do think there's lots we don't know, but she handled the situation most unprofessionally... the news leak by zeenews about barun's leaving, the forum 32 declaration that the story has run its course, the actual approving of tracks like sheetal and mrs india, introduction of pointless characters such as bubbly and masala mama, then all that stage whispering about what's the future... and actually shooting the death of asr. kill asr?
somehow, this was not the act of a creator.
it is easy to talk passionately and give interesting sound bites before camera. but when real life calls, that's where whether you love or not, whether something was your baby or not shows through.
if my baby had a problem, would i tear it to shreds and blame the circumstances?
i feel sad for the show... because we can all sense its potential. pity, none of the makes loved it enough.
I can actually feel your outburst... There were better tracks suggested by the viewers on their forum... What made them to take up those tracks, only they know... So many things about IPK remain a mystery... For all the love we have for the show, I wish atleast we get a clarification on all these things...
