Darwaza whan hai aur bhagna ka rasta bhi...
How much easier it would have been to throw his job on his face and walk out... With dignity, with her head held high... Even with paint on her face, even with tears in her eyes...in spite of the humiliation meted out to her...Because she believes she has done no wrong. But we all know of paths less travelled ...the people who chose them ... and why they choose them..
Walking out now is not an option...She has to live with herself... Kuhdari say jeetay hai... He has a lot to answer for...Baseless accusations...terrifying sexual aggression ...the ensuing public disgrace and the condescending, dismissive attitude ...How could she let the colossal injustice she and her family had to suffer, all doled out by this arrogant man, go unanswered...It had never been only about his 25 Hazar rupiah ... But now she is simply saying I will not allow you to treat me like this!!!
He churlishly reminds her... He not only writes his own kismet, but also dictates what happens to others ... Should he let her fall ...??? Would he have pulled her in... had she have not thrown his words back on his face... Should she have been so blunt???
On the face of it... It does seem his claims and his hubris are well justified... Her life has been turned upside down... Her sister's wedding unceremoniously halted... Her own trust and reputation in tatters... Banished to a strange city... penniless ... All because she slipped and fell ??? Or all because this man chose to not believe her, and then nonchalantly orchestrated her fall from grace... One thoughtless phone call and within a matter of hours her life is unrecognizable...
Here she is now... seemingly at his mercy...How easily he says ... Girna tho tumhari fitrat mien hai... Her heartbreak writ large on her face... she vehemently rejects his benevolence...How could she do anything other than throw his answer back at him??? And how could he... After his forceful, pompous proclamations ... not follow through...
But he had caught her... Not just that first time ... This time too... He had purposefully advanced forward.. intimidating her...she had stepped back... Start of their dance...He advances...She retreats .. He leans... she dips...But then... She backs too far and is about to fall through the open window... He grasps her hand ... Tension in their locked hands and arms..all her weight in his grasp...their eyes locked in a duel... He questions her ... Should I save you ...to listen to your bakwass... Or should I let you fall ??? She is done!!! She will not back down any further ... With an unbecoming smirk on his face and exaggerated five fingers and palm stretched taut, he releases his hold... and asserts her will...
His promise of Hamesha smabhalta rahooga... had started with his first catch... Today's fall will ensure that he will never ever let her fall again... Not literally and not figuratively...Not at Teej ...not on route to Nanital ...not when her Babuji falls ill...not at dance practice... not at Teri Meri... not at Preeto's wedding... not at Kurvachauth...not even after Heer Ranjha...when he thinks the worst of her...He will be burdened by the the memory of this confrontation for a long time to come...Yet another utterly irresponsible, careless, dangerous dalliance to add to his list of growing transgressions...
The one time she does fall, during the Kidnapping rescue ... He is haunted by the memory of his promise and his inability to act upon it...
Their first contract... As unfair as the one that follows... and just as binding... He is starting to tie her to himself with whatever means necessary...even as he will continue his reign of terror !!!
Not for one moment does he think she would back down. He advances forward once again... He knows she would come back fighting... She steps up to meet him...He is ready... He thrives on challenges and being challenged... It will be a pleasure to play these games ... with a worthy opponent... one who does not cower and back down... He knows he scares her... He can see she struggle with her fears... Yet she comes back fighting...Is this the appeal ??? Or is it more sinister??? Does he want to crush that spirit???
In the next few days we will see Khushi flit through his flimsy gauntlet... as nimbly, as charmingly and adroitly as only a Titiliya can... and we will see ASR having more fun than he has had in a long time ... Let the games begin!!!!
