Khushi smiled looking at the calendar, the date displayed made her think of the same day years back. She sat on her sofa, took in sip of hot tea and thought of that rainy evening which changed her life completely, which bought in endless joys and never ending happiness to her life.
ten years back on the verandah of her house stood Khushi, holding a paper in one hand and jalebi on the other, she was not eating the jalebi neither was reading the paper, she stood there waiting for someone, her eyes were yearning for his presence. Each second passed away bringing tears in her eyes, today she was getting engaged to a man whom she never loved, to a man whose presence irked her, she stood there helpless hoping to see Arnav coming in as a savior for her, taking her away from this maddening crowd to their world of happiness and joy. Her waiting seemed to drain in vain as no sign of Arnav's coming came in. Payal came and asked Khushi to be ready for the engagement.
She smiled in between her tears, she thought those letters she sent to Arnav asking him to take her away before she engage with the unknown. She hoped of letters reaching him on time and he coming to save her, but now as clock struck seven all her hopes drained in making her completely hopeless. Tears rolled out from her eyes, she didn't let them stop as Arnav has always told her "once you cry, with the tears even sorrows will flush out, never hold back your tears" Payal saw the sunken face of Khushi and moved towards her asking her the reason behind her sadness. Khushi hugged her tightly and wept like a baby wailing in between, Payal was unable to console her and also feared of what others might think and what will come out of this outcry. She patted on Khushi's back and said "all happens for the best"
"But jiji…" she managed to grab in some words in between her sobs
"Don't worry, all is for the best dear" and she left the room leaving Khushi contemplate over her plight.
Clock struck eight everyone gathered in the hall, Khushi was dressed up beautifully in her favourite red lehenga, she looked like a princes but the glow and charm which were supposed to be in the face of lady on her engagement day was lost in Khushi's.
Payal took Khushi down, as she climbed down the stairs everyone looked at her as if a princess is descending down, Khushi's eyes seemed dry by those endless tears and keeping her head low unable to face in her destiny she walked down.
Down there stood her fianc, Shyam smiling widely and was been congratulated by everyone, his eyes had sparks of cruelty, he very well knew Khushi never loved him and loves someone else yet he forced in the marriage by his crooked methods, he was standing there enjoying Khushi's wrecked plight.
Not letting herself face him, she stood there closing her eyes she held out her hand to let him put ring on her finger, as he was about to put in the ring she felt an urge to pull back her hand and did what she felt, some strange intuition made her walk back, whole of the guest present there stood there bewildered. Shyam himself was amused this strange act of Khushi.
Khushi went towards the door stood there looking at the gate desperately for Arnav to walk in, she stood there still for around ten minutes when Payal came in taking her back, she wanted to get out from Payal's clutches but was numb and senseless like a doll she was walking where Payal headed her to, but before reaching back to where all began, someone opened the door and walked in creating mess of sounds, the whole of people present there turned back, except for Khushi, there stood Arnav Singh Raizada.
All were shocked, he walked towards her, on nearing Shyam tried to push him back, but he was least bothered by Shyam, he went towards her, held her hand making her realize his presence and making her believe its true and not dream, he knelt down on his knees, looked deep into her eyes, held her hand and said "forgive me for being late, now come with me"
He stood up, she was still gaining back her senses, her eyes got welled up, with the overflow of overwhelming emotions in her, she hugged him, he took her in his arms and walked out of the hall in a perfect bollywood filmy style making the gathered people wonderstruck.
Recollecting that day's episode Khushi smiled and got up from her sofa, she walked in to kitchen and saw Arnav standing there desperately trying to make in some jalebis
"arrey Arnavji, yeh aap kya karre hai?" she asked running towards him and taking the batter from his hand.
"Rute hue patni ko manane ki koshish karre ho"
Khushi smiled "Jo dus saal se nahi ho payi who aaj kya hoga?"
He smiled and turned off the gas.
"Waise Arnavji mein apse kuch puchna chahti hu"
"What?"
"Us din aap jaldi kyun nahi aayi, kyun muhjse itna intzaar karvaya"
He smiled understanding very well on about which day she is talking.
"Apni filmy wife ki zindagi mein ek filmy din dene ka mann kiya" and smirked
"What then?" Khushi said dropping out her jaw.
