You Did Not Hear Me Out.
"...I am here because of you Khushi, where there is nothing but betrayal, pain and hate..." Arnav said. "Khushi, if you were not waiting for me, I would not have come. Let us go away Khushi...away from all this pain and hate. Away from where the past haunts us..." He plead.
She was not listening...Khushi had stopped paying attention to his words the second he backed away from her touch. She had a familiar feeling...A feeling of her heart being broken again. The rest of his words drowned out and her mind went to level zero...utterly blank and she began feeling numb. She could feel hope ebbing away from her... The broken bangles, the extinguished fire, his turning up late...were a sign. A sign that they could never be together...She understood now. Her vision of Arnav began to get dimmer and dimmer. The edges of his face began to blur, and her vision doubled, before darkness took over her mind and engulfed her. Arnav's face infront of her dimmed into nothingness as her knees went weak, and her eyes went unfocused, and her eyelids drooped shut. And just like that, she dropped to the ground.
The minute her eyes went distant, he knew she was not listening...nothing was going through to her...But he tried..."Khushi, if you were not waiting for me, I would not have come. Let us go away Khushi...away from all this pain and hate. Away from where the past haunts us..." Worry began surfacing as her lower lips began to quiver, and her eyes closed and opened very slowly...Each time she closed her eyes, it was for longer than before. He watched in horror, as her hand rose to her head and her eyes closed and she began to sway. "Khushi?" he asked, full of panic now.
"Khushiji!" "Khushi Bitiya!"
She crumpled to the floor, and was caught by Arnav's arms. Despite her unconsciousness, Arnav felt the sleeves of his sherwani getting wet. Tears were flowing continuously from her closed eyes. "Khushi! KHUSHI! Hear me out! PLEASE! WAKE UP!" he begged. He heard her muttering vaguely. "You promised...you promised me... "
Arnav saw Garima from his peripheral vision, sobbing hard at the now extinguished sacred fire. He would deal with her later. Buaji followed Arnav, and he could feel her gaze boring into him. He laid Khushi on the bed, leaving Payal to take care of her. He went out and closed the door behind him silently. He couldn't bear to see her... His mother's words rang in his ears... 'When it was the fault of the thorn, you blindly harmed the rose'...'Never hurt someone you love and who loves you...' He shut his eyes, when he felt a rough hand tap his shoulder. He turned around to see a ready-to-explode Buaji. "Buaji, I-"
"YOU WHAT! You see her inside? She is in there because of YOU!" she yelled.
Buaji ignored him. "She did not want to break your trust...she did not want to leave till the fire went out... Did you for ONE SECOND think about breaking HER trust... You left! Why? To find answers to YOUR questions... And Dadiji! She talked as if it was Titaliya's fault! She knew the minute you were hurt... WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT TO DO! YOU are the reason her life got ruined... If it weren't were you, she would not even have met that SHYAM and-"
"Ji HAAN! Because of that video on news, she was being messed around with boys. Shyam babua, very nicely, saved her. She found a friend and him, and-" She shook her head, simply not wanting to continue further.
"Payal, I swear I had no intention of breaking this marriage...I am angry at Garima Aunty...Not Khushi..." He said.
Payal replied. "Look, you have no right to be angry on Amma, because she did not know your father was a married man. I am sure you are familiar with all Shyamji had done. It was pretty much the same thing...Only then, it was Amma and not Khushi, your father and not Shyamji."
"What? Dadi did not tell me that...Besides, she found out today and-""She found out TODAY?" a voice cut in. They turned around and saw Garima walking towards them.
Something in her voice, made Arnav reply. "Yes."
"That's a lie." Garima whispered.
"WHAT!"
"Dadiji had confronted me already back when she found out about your father. She knew me...she also saw me on the Dadi had accepted Khushi... But why did she-"
Arnav saw red. Dadi knew about it! BEFORE! Why had she chosen today! Her idea seemed to make sense... Just then Nani walked in. "Garimaji, why were you saying that Sumi had told you you were forgiven? It seemed...it seemed as if...as if you had already talked before."Garima looked at Arnav. "I need to leave."
"Chhotey?" Nani asked.
Arnav told her what Dadi told him. "But why would she tell you TODAY!?"
"For revenge. AND because she did not want Khushi to marry me..." He said, furiously.
Nani knew, by instinct, that he was right.
From above, he saw the Pandit packing his things, and leaving. Arnav made a decision. "Panditji, stop." He walked into the room where Khushi was laid. He picked her up gently, and took her down much to the others protests. "I cannot wait." he replied to all of them.
He took her down and got HP to rekindle the fire. "How long for the muharat to pass?" Arnav asked the Pandit.
"Half hour."
With Khushi in his arms, he said. "Get us married Panditji. NOW!"
Others were too stunned to react, and the Pandit, not wanting to question him, started chanting.
Arnav took the 7 pheres, with an unconscious Khushi in his arms, and filled her maang with sindoor. Just as fastened the mangalsutra, Khushi regained consciousness. "Y-You said you were leaving.You-"
"I NEver said I was leaving." Arnav told her.
"But you backed away..." she stuttered.
"Khushi," he said, cupping her face in his hands. "Firstly, there was blood on my face. Second, I wanted you to hear me before you took a decision. I had wanted you to cut off ties with your Amma, but..." he thought abou what Aunty had said. "But I realized Dadi has lied to me about something. No matter what, I will never leave you...As long as I breathe and my heart stops beating..."
"B-But Arnavji! You-" Khushi was still not convinced.
"Ssh.." he said, putting a finger in her lips. "You did not hear me out Khushi..."
I know this is lame, but i needed to vent out...
