*Tinkle jinkle crink.. Tinkle jinkle crink*
*Chhanak Chanak Chanak*
He lifted his Maroon orbs at the sound of bangles and a pair of payal clinking and chinkling.
The necklace bounced around her neck, as her bosom heaved, while she moved.
He turned to see the source of the sound, in such silence.
Her payal chimed together around her ankles, as she took long strides with her mojri covered feet. She was running. Her maroon-green lehenga lifted a bit with her slender hands as she ran past the pillars of the ruined fort. Her net dupatta/scarf that looked like the night sky of maroon adorned by twinkling stars of gold, flowed with the wind, behind her, creating waves as it was pinned to her shoulders.
He stopped at the entrance, looking for the source. Suddenly he saw a glimpse of maroon-green behind pillars, turning to a left. He followed it to the turn.
She smiled as she saw him see her, though it was just a glimpse.
He stopped on seeing no sign of her. He looked from left to right trying to get a glimpse of that person again.
Her violet orbs danced with a mischievious glint on being successful at her first move. She could see his figure, clad in black patiala and dark cyan kurta, sleeves pushed up to his elbows, looking around in anticipation.
She chimed her bangles, shaking her wrist as her arm stretched out to catch his attention.
He looked up to see the source of the chiming, just as his ears perked up at the sound, only to get another glimpse of maroon-green vanishing again. He reached the spot and looked around the terrace and saw only the sun, shining gloriously above, but not the source. He was sure it was a she. He had seen a bangle clad hand.
Right when he turned back to look down, his eyes caught a cloud of maroon-green flying just above the ground. A petit figure could be seen, clad in a lehenga, and the dupatta elegantly covering bosom and her head and face. Her back was towards him and the fort, and he saw that she had ran out of the huge gates and was heading to the mela a few feet away. He jogged back down and stopped suddenly to see something glistening on the ground right outside the gates. It was a payal, that chimed melodiously when he shook it off the dust. And right when he stepped out into the mela, he was surrounded by hundreds of people in colourful attires, depicting a sea of shades of Rainbow.
As he walked past the stalls, he felt like the figure was watching him.
She held her dupatta tightly, giggling as she saw him looking around.. for her. She peeped out even more and just when he was turning, a flush of nervousness and fear of being caught filled her, as jerked back. Heaving breaths and closing her eyes to calm her raging heart, a relief spread through her body. Opening her eyes, the sight in front of her filled her with immense joy as she saw some kids playing with doves. she jogged to the spot and caught one dove, caressed it, and smiled down at the eager-looking kids. She bent her knees and with full force released the dove into the blue-white sky, but not before wishing and kissing it.
The kids cheered and jumped up and down in delight. Hunching her shoulders in delight, she twirled around, with her head craned back and arms wide, welcoming the breeze and joy flooding the atmosphere. She closed her eyes to feel it with a smile lingering on her lips, when just then she felt a tug at her arm and she went twirling and stopped hard with her hands on a tough torso, and her eyes looking up into those maroon orbs, just like her lehenga, but a little darker, near to black. She looked into them with fear first, as her body tried to adapt to the sudden change.
He gazed into those pretty violet orbs that held a scared expression and then realisation as a few moments passed. On turning, he had caught a glimpse of the maroon-green lehenga again, and this time knowing that he couldn't have mistaken, followed it. The sight of her twirling freely, opened his own self and elation coursed through him at the sight of innocence and the carefree attitude of the girl.
His eyes traced every feature embedded in her face slowly, drinking in the innocence and beauty of it.
Turning her around with himself, he made her sit and without leaving her eyes, kneeled in front of her, while she followed his eyes, confused. She gasped when she felt him lifting her foot and looked down to see him placing it on his thigh.
He smiled on seeing her wide eyes, as they looked back with bewilderment written all over. He brought up his hand and held the stray anklet in front, waiting to see her reaction. He blinked in approval as his smile widened on seeing realisation, embarrassment, gratitude flushing her face all together.
She looked down to her foot, while he wound her anklet around her ankles. He hooked it slowly as ever, trying not to hurt her soft, fair skin.
Her lips parted as she looked up to him coyly, while he gazed at her face with a light smile lingering on his lips.
Placing her foot down and straightening up, he held out his hand for her. Looking down at his hand and then back up, she slipped her slender pale hand into his large darker one and sucked in a breath as she felt his finger clasping her hand.. lovingly, protectively. She stood up, looking down on the ground, while he smiled at her coyness.
"Shukriya.. [Thank You..]", came out her melodious, soft voice, as she looked up to meet his maroon gaze and flashed wonderment in her own.
And before he could say anything, he felt her detach her hand from his, as they both heard someone calling "Khushi". And next he saw her running away from him, but not before looking back and flashing a smile at him.
His arm lay outstretched for a few moments, as he breathed, "Khushi".
