Hi Friends,
Do not wish to offend anyone with this post. I apologize in advance just in case.

Just want to bring to light certain hard facts. Barun wears his wedding ring on the right hand and so do many others including me.

Why is a wedding ring always worn on the third finger?
Answer is : It is not.
Why is a wedding ring always worn on the third finger?

Modern "authorities" on etiquette follow their predecessors in matrimonial procedure, in urging that the wedding ring always be worn on the third finger.

Before medical science discovered how the circulatory system functioned, people believed that a vein of blood ran directly from the third finger on the left hand to the heart. Because of the hand-heart connection, they chose the descriptive name vena amori, Latin for the vein of love, for this particular vein.

Based upon this name, their contemporaries, purported experts in the field of matrimonial etiquette, wrote that it would only be fitting that the wedding ring be worn on this finger. By wearing the ring on the third finger of the left hand, a married couple symbolically declares their eternal love for each other.

Vena amoris is a Latin name meaning, literally, "vein of love". Traditional belief established that this vein ran directly from the heart to the fourth finger of the left hand. This theory has been cited in western cultures as one of the reasons the engagement ring and/or wedding ring was placed on the fourth finger, or "ring finger".

It is to be noted that this traditional belief is a fallacy as all the fingers in the hand have a similar vein structure.

Please refer Wikipedia for more information.

Okay here is the rest of it!!!

The choice of finger is also less than settled until recent times; during the 17th century in England it was not unusual to wear the wedding ring on the thumb.[1] Gauls and Britons wore their rings on the middle finger,[2] and the choice of right or left hand appears relatively dependent on culture; though cultures that use either the right or left ring finger both claim a historical connection to thevena amoris. The use of wedding and betrothal rings was not commonplace in the Roman Empire until the 2nd century; which also contradicts versions of the story which claim that this tradition was brought to Rome in the 3rd century BC.

The strong possibility exists, based on the lack of concrete sources, that this story is a combination of ancient beliefs in the mystical properties of the ring finger, smatterings of legend, and shrewd marketing by the jewellery industry, which has in the past demonstrated a willingness to exploit myths and legends to increase ring sales.[3]

😆 I was watching DDLJ I think like a week ago and had my anatomy textbook open whilst watching it. Immediately I started flicking through the index to look for the vein structure of the hand to prove to my mum how much of a myth it is. And I literally waved the illustration in front of my mum 😆.
I guess it's just one of those things people believe but every vein in your body is connected to your heart so now it's really just a tradition and nothing to do with your vein system.

So happy to see your response!!!
I know what you exactly mean!! I am no doc (My dad and cousins and uncles are) but i am an annoying reader and read up anything and everything including my dads med journals. And in one of them long back in a lighter section i think I found a joke and I was only 13 and no one believed me in school and the journal was lost in the sea of journals at home so could not retrieve it to prove to them. I am so glad we have internet now to do all the proving. How can ppl still be so ignorant as to not exploit their resources at hand an believe every crap u r fed in the name of religion, tradition and culture. No offence. But I all those things are the spiritual side of life. I believe they certainly shouldnt be mixed up with the science of WHY, HOW, WHEN, WHERE, WHAT.

😆 yeh this was like straight after I finished the cardiac system, so I was kinda still fresh off of the subject and I had to prove it to my mum 😛. And now I've just gone into breaking anyones bubble when they state this.
Defo! It should just really be one of those things you know, like if you only had one finger in your hand that was connected to the heart, that means the rest of your fingers are not being drained, therefore no circulation. How would that work? 😆
In the olden days when things were not so advanced it was okay. But now we should know not to believe in such simple absurd explanations. Yes it's true that in every country people tend to wear their wedding ring on their left finger, at least when they exchange rings that is. Thereafter it's really a choice as to on which finger, or even which hand you wear it on. My dad also wears it on his right hand. It's only a tradition carried forward, there should no longer be this false scientific basis provided to justify it. Tbh though I have only seen Indian soap use this whole left vein scenario now a days. Hmmm... It really does make me think.
