Arnav & Khushi
A few months back (29th Feb), I'd mentioned as a joke, the motto of ASR's life:
I Saw It.
I Wanted It.
I Threw a Fit.
I Got It.
There, we go!!
Damage Control
Arnav rushes to his room to see Khushi packing her stuff.
Khushi has taken Arnav's words to her heart. She truly does believe, it seems, that he is right in thinking that she is the cause of all his troubles. All she could think of was the bond of Arnav with his sister and how it suffered because of Khushi. She decides to walk out of his life.
Khushi was once about to tell Arnav all about Shyam; that day she held it back because she remembered how much Arnav loved his sister and how broken he would be if her world fell apart. She took it upon herself to bear the agony that hiding this ugly reality brought her.
Now, despite all her honest attempts at ensuring that Arnav and Anjali live without the dark shadow of Shyam's deeds falling on them, the worst has happened.
After all that Arnav said to her, she firmly believes that she is the cause of the pain that Arnav and Anjali are going through.
Apologize, Convince, Threaten
He apologizes. He explains. He attempts to convince. Nothing works.
Khushi is bent on leaving him.
The conversation that went on between them was rather interesting, and although it was serious, it was rather cute. It seems they're not seeing eye-to-eye; but actually, they're both so focused on each other, and their need to see the other happy.
Arnav has recently seen the error of his ways, and begun trusting Khushi. He sees that she's been honest with him and is focused on him. Today, as he sees her starting to leave and attempts to stop her, he sees first-hand her innocent and honest intentions. She doesn't want anyone to be hurt because of her - especially Arnav.
Even though, they have known each other for long, they were prevented by their mindsets to really see each other. Now, that they do, their expectations from each other are more visible.
Arnav knows that he has hurt her again. Yet, when he gets back and sees that she has forgiven him and is leaving him, his expectations come flowing through:
Arnav: You can't leave like this.
Arnav: I can't let you go. Without you...
Khushi: I can't see Di being hurt because of me.
Arnav: And me?
Despite all he said some time back, his expectations from Khushi are still established: he can't let her go, and she should be bothering over him being hurt if she left him. Despite her decision to leave she still wants to assure him that she isn't angry and isn't leaving because she is angry.
It seems all else did fail, when Khushi asked him if he could be happy, if Di wasn't.
Arnav really didn't know what to do.
He couldn't stop her. He couldn't let her leave.
Leave it to ASR! Threaten.
When nothing else works, ASR finds a way. He falls back on Plan B - the contract. Though, it kills him to repeat his threats to separate Akash and Payal, and more so to threaten the girl he loves so, he reckons that he has to do it.
He is desperate; and desperate times call for desperate measures! At this point in his life, he just cannot do without Khushi beside him; he needs here there with him; she is the only comfort he has, and the only one who knows, accepts and loves him as is - just as he loves her. He has just accepted that he is one with her and separating from her is not an option.
Arnav really did it only to keep her with him. She has understood it likewise, however, for much different reason. The problem is that by asking her to stay for the duration of the contract, he has implied that after the contract duration is over, she can leave.
Of course, he intends none of it. He hopes that by the time the contract ends, he'd have won her heart.
It reminds me of the night he held her hand, to stay with her, but she inferred it to mean that he only held her hand to keep her from running away. Arnav meant none of that.
During the next day, Arnav cared for Khushi. He was changed. He didn't mind when she messed with his diary. He didn't mind when she ran from him continuously. He worried over her when she didn't eat well and brought her a glass of milk. However, all this time, he was busy in his work and was oblivious to all that was cooking in her mind.
Khushi's suicide attempt was used merely as a foreshadow to the events that would now unfold. He realized that she was decided on dying (leaving Arnav) too late - after she had taken the step.
Love, Understanding, Trust
Khushi stands out alone staring into the skies. Arnav passes by and sees her looking at the stars. Now he knows what she thinks, feels … he just needs to look at her and he knows what she is going thru.
There was a time, when Arnav guessed everything wrong about Khushi. She often complained that he never could understand what brought her joy.
It is a treat to see that Arnav is showing a marked change, even though his current interaction with Khushi has convinced her that he hasn't changed at all.
Until now, Khushi has done all that Arnav asked her to do. She has rarely not followed his orders.
Yet, when he finds her missing the next morning, he looks around and he seems to be thinking along the lines, that Khushi left RM after all. When Nani also confirms that Khushi did leave for GH, he believes that Khushi ignored his warning and left him.
He leaves RM angry and decided to bring her back.
Trust & Understanding yet needed...
The Problem...
... Communication!
They don't let the other speak.
They let their viewpoints mess with their knowledge of 'who' the other is
They focus on unimportant and sometimes even irrelevant, instead of useful and to-the-point information.
1. When Arnav asked Khushi about why she went to Anjali's room, first he didn't let her speak.
Finally, when Khushi spoke, she talked about how she loved and cared for Di just as much as Arnav did.
Dear girl, all you needed to do was focus on the actual detail - 'I went to give her food because she hadn't eaten all day.'
While Arnav may have told you to get someone else to do this in future, he would not have blown his fuse more than it was already out!
2. When Arnav came in to apologize, having realized his error, first he focused on the bag being packed. And then he launched into explaining and apologizing and convincing, and finally threatening - planning to win her over at leisure.
Arnav, Arnav, Arnav... Buddy, you don't need to win her. She is already all yours. All you had to do was to gather her in your arms, tell her you love her, could not live without her, and intended to live your whole life with her. She wasn't going anywhere!
3. When Arnav asked Khushi to marry him (contract-based), he had a reason - Shyam. Now, Shyam isn't around anymore.
Khushi needs to wonder why it is that this time Arnav is threatening to separate Akash and Payal.
If Arnav declares to Khushi that he would make her his wife for good, then pretty soon Khushi might figure out that his threat was an empty one. In any case, she might stay put on the matter of leaving him.
She ran...
And this is why, I LOVE you Khushi, my girl! You have the power to make a business magnate lose all sense and logic and run first around his house and then over to your house...
Don't'ya love it when he dances to your toones!!
The BIG Choice
If Di is unhappy, would you be happy?
Yup, that was the question of the day which made Arnav let go of Khushi's hand for a moment, before he decided he could not let her go. It is a difficult choice for Arnav. The moment he thinks of his sister being unhappy because Khushi was around, he feels he's made the right choice by letting her go.
When she starts to walk out, Arnav regrets his mistake immediately. He realizes that he cannot live without her. If she walks out of his life, then he would not be able to survive that.
He can give up life and his happiness for Anjali, but then, he really would be lifeless if Khushi were to leave him.
Currently, his choice is to let Khushi stay on but keeping her from Anjali. And now because he's messed up big time yet again, he needs to 'win her back' or as he thinks he has to.
In letting go her hand, he decided to keep Anjali over himself and Khushi.
In calling Khushi back, he is deciding that he cannot do without Khushi, even if it means balancing things out with Anjali.
Is this a first?
By the way, this is the first time that Arnav Singh Raizada has probably decided to do something for himself.
Before this, all his decisions and choices were made for his family, his business (in turn family).
For the first time, he's decided that he's not going to let Khushi go because he cannot let her go, because he cannot live without her. This decision is for him and his love for his wife.
On the lighter side
If Khushi stays, then Anjali remains unhappy. In effect, Arnav is not happy.
If Khushi goes, then Arnav is not happy.
Looking at it from Arnav's viewpoint – Darlin', I'm blighted if I got ya, and blighted if I don't. Might as well have ya and be blighted, than not!
Or in other words, Arnav is saying: I'll be happier being unhappy if you're here with me, than being unhappy if you're not.
Carry Forward
Response to a post on the WIL of 12th July 2012:
Ahh.. yes, the brother-sister bonding.
That was good. While I was writing last night's WIL - I was wondering if I should add anything about that special bonding. it was definitely a highlight of the episode - apart from ASR boiling away to glory.
The parallel drawn between Khushi and Anjali as Gemsal678 pointed out as well - ASR carrying Khushi and Khushi pulled him, and then him carrying the sister and she too pulled him
Yeah I saw that - the only thing that struck me was when Arnav lashed out at Khushi - I smiled and thought: brother vs. lover -> brother won!
I wanted to put something about the bonding - but when I sat down to think about 'What I Loved' ... the scene didn't play out in my head and I realized that perhaps it is because I am yet missing something there..
Arnav-Khushi interaction stood out; but Arnav-Anjali interaction did not ... I know the impact is building up ... I am yet to see it in full measure though. As of now, Anjali is not touching me (not the actor, the character; Daljeet is good!)...
It is about with my perspective on the story though; I see it as a story of Arnav with Khushi - where Anjali is an impact-er (for the want of a better word) on the relationship, positive or negative.
-- Perhaps it is because I am focused on Arnav-Khushi and their relationship, which for me is the lens through which I see everything in the show. That is, I look at everything that happens through the lead pair and the impact events on them.
Both Khushi and Anjali pulled Arnav - But ... (I don't know how to say this without launching into a full-blown explanation LOL)... there is a difference between Khushi pulling Arnav and Anjali pulling Arnav... at least as I see it - there is a HUGE difference.
I'll try to cover that in the WIL tonight.
==
And here it is:
Anjali has begun impacting Arnav-Khushi in a 'seemingly' negative way - but I am yet to see it in happen actively. She pulled Arnav towards her - she is wanting ("demanding") his attention to her need for seeing the joy and love of her life restored to her ... perhaps, this "demand" for Arnav's attention might increase as the days go by.
Khushi too pulled him - but, I felt (maybe it was just me) that Khushi pulled him to "give" him comfort, to not let him be alone, to tell him he needn't be alone because she was there. For this reason, when she saw Arnav left and did not return, she went looking for him and stayed beside him.
Anjali did not follow Arnav - she is focused on herself and her life and what she is lost and that Arnav, she thinks, can fix it.
Anjali is pulling Arnav to "ask" more of him - Khushi is pulling Arnav to "give" more to him.
This is only "beginning" now... I need to see it (I wonder if I will) happening more prominently...
Why? Because, it seems Khushi *might* eventually empty herself out giving to Arnav - she has started to be emptied after Arnav's lashing out. Arnav is giving her back in small measures, but right now he looks upon her as someone he is to care for - not as someone from whom he can receive care..
Relationships can tire one out if all you do is give and never get.
Arnav is giving continually - he is bound to lash out sometime or the other.
Arnav-Khushi relationship is not ready to move to next level yet because - they're both getting blocked by their mindsets: I am a care-giver; I need to take care; if something goes wrong, I am responsible; I need to fix it; if I don't fix it, it doesn't get fixed; everyone's expectation is from me, and even if it is not, then it is still me.
This is apparently how they view relationships. It shocks them when someone gives them care - including each other. This is why they tire out too. Khushi's aim in life is to "feed" people. She gives. Arnav's aim in life is his "family". He gives.
Now, Khushi has agreed to stay on till the contract is over. Although, during this time, Arnav plans to win her over, how much Khushi may receive it from him is debatable. She has seen that as long as she is around, Anjali will find it harder to cope. She has been told to stay away from Anjali.
Eventually, this might have an adverse affect on Khushi, and thereby on Arnav. Actually, especially for Arnav, because on one hand he cannot see his sister suffering, and on the other he hates to see Khushi being held responsible or being victimized.
Foreshadows...
For Arnav:
"Khushi... it's all because of you. Why did I ever meet you? Before you came in all was good, and Di was happy. It's the worst mistake of my life that I met you."
For Khushi:
"You will never change. Every time I will forget about who you are, you will remind me by hurting me, bringing me sorrow, and breaking my heart."
Not exactly recent, but might be foreshadows for the (distant) future. These ring as true as:
"I tried to hate you, but I could not."
"I tried not to love you, but I could not."
Some Weird Ones...
It's happened twice:
Arnav started to say, "Main tumhare bina ..." - but didn't/couldn't complete what he wanted to say.
The first time was when he thought Khushi had died. He was weeping and he couldn't complete the statement.
The second time was today. He started to say it, but Khushi cut him off.
It's happened twice:
Arnav held Khushi's hand to stop her from leaving, and each time her dupatta was draped over her hand, in effect Arnav held Khushi's hand over her dupatta.
The first time was when he was home the first night after getting home.
Others
1. It was refreshing to see Nani carry the untiring strength of a mother who holds up hope for her children and refuses to give up trying. She is focused on being the support that her children need. She is caring for Anjali, but she is not oblivious to Arnav's situation.
She also attempted to care for Khushi, though her love for Anjali being her primary focus right now is preventing her from focusing on much else.
2. PAYAL: LOVED ya today!
Not just the fact that you were there for Khushi when she needed you; you came to Khushi despite getting an uncalled for lecture from Akash.
3. Akash, would you mind applying the lecture you gave Payal to yourself as well! If she is not just a sister, you're not just a brother. If Anjali is in pain, it hurts you, and it is natural. Just the same way, if Khushi is hurting, it hurts Payal and that too is natural.
4. LOVED to see Bua Ji, Amma, and Shashi after so long. Hopefully NK too comes back in ME.

Twinkling away to glory in the night sky!
