He could see that she had already made up her mind to leave him.
As if he'd let her.
He was incorrigible, ruthless and foolish she had told him and he'd secretly agreed.What she had forgotten was that he was a stubborn ass as well.His resolve to not let her leave was firm . He had made mistakes, huge and terrible mistakes, all the while believing in his own invincibility and this is where all that had gotten him. He was more than willing to repay for his misdeeds but he would not,could not give up on her.
She was pure, innocent and right all along and yet she had heard all his accusations, borne the brunt of his unjustifiable anger and even risked her life for him but he had behaved ungratefully even after that.He had broken her spirit, scarred her with his acidic jibes and driven the knife further inside her heart.Selfish and blinded by misguided notions he had hurt her and strangely she had let him.
Maybe one day she would forgive him but he would never be able to be so charitable to himself, his regret ran too deep for that.
He remembered all those moments she had tried so hard for their relationship to work but he hadn't let her.Till the very end she had supported him and while he had repeatedly asked her to understand him, he himself had never understood her, believed her words and trusted her when he should have.
She should have left him months ago but she didn't and he was eternally grateful for that.
"You'll be Mrs. Khushi Kumari Gupta Singh Raizada for life now.", He told her, not arrogantly but in a matter -of -fact tone. He would have it no other way.
Flashes of events flitted through his mind in a montage of sensations and images-Khushi running to hug him, Khushi clutching her heart as she looked up at him, Khushi singing annoying songs to irk him, Khushi throwing water at him playfully, Khushi mimicking his actions, Khushi falling off that cliff because of him.
"Why do you think I'll not leave you after all this?", She asked bitterly and he closed his eyes, unable to look at her while he shamelessly stated the only truth that mattered, the silver lining he had been counting on all along, "Because you love me."
