Nice Post! I was about to run out for some meetings and stuff but I had to post this before I left. I was researching "Lalit Mohan" effect -- this was because of a comment you made when i said "this doesnt look as good now, WHY???" and you responded saying "it may be Lalit Mohan" -- I got curious. I was trying to see what happened with the guy and why people think the magic kind of went away because he left the show -- I believe that directors are the ones that create the magic -- what we see is what the guy is imagining -- imagination of the director sets the platform for the actors to perform.
I read a facebook post that said he is no longer directing IPKKND as of 18th of March! I have been racking my brain to understand why the current stuff doesnt look as beautiful as the previous stuff -- I am fine with the CVs creating the story but I realized that the thing that kept me watching this show especially the build up to the wedding etc was the way it was shot -- everything looked so beautiful -- I didnt mind the fact that they called a "tub" or a "water tank" a pool -- If I dove in the damn thing I would be touching both ends with my fingers and toes -- because it looked "pleasant" -- so many magical moments -- the Deepavali stuff was so beautiful.
On analyzing it further what I found is, Lalit knew how to make the pauses work. He knew how to make even Buaji's house look good -- he knew how to make Sanaya look breath-takingly beautiful -- It was built up slowly -- she started looking better and better -- he created a contrast between the way she looked when she was just "working" and the way she looked on special occassions -- Teej, Deepavali, Holi -- also the content had more the "Indian" thing to it.
I dont know who the current director is but the show changed -- I loved the fact that they came together but I kept wondering why I felt that something was missing in the way it was shown??? I am being critical yes but it is out of love for what has become an obsession really! I have watched the sangeet episodes 5 times now and I remember all the lines but I still watch them because once I finish them, when I do a call or a meeting or write to my team -- I feel happier!
Lalit had a way of evoking EQ to the extreme.
I know I may be saying things all of you already know but as the Newbee I wanted to share.
I think the magic will not come back till they bring him back -- I dont feel as good when I watch the current episodes as I do when I watch the old ones -- I may just stick to reruns -- because some of the stuff now may ruin that "special feeling".
To the content on your post Rima -- SPOT ON -- at least they didnt screw up the current situation!
I finally figured out what made me like IPKKND -- the emotional quotient that goes missing in ones life when busy with business, I found in the show and the way it was portrayed, enacted, shown -- I kept saying this -- Sanaya didnt look this beautiful before -- it is because we loved who she was and how she played Khushi -- that "hhhgg" sound she makes when laughing -- so much attention to detail. It brings something special like "everything that is done right will result in this much happiness" kind of feeling. It was all thanks to that director guy. Kudos man!! Great Job! Today even though she is wearing better clothes etc, Sanaya is not the same -- It may be me but that is what I see! May be I am more attuned to see the difference because I saw the entire show in a short period of time! Whatever it is, I have finally figured out what made me LOVE the show and get addicted to it -- Lalit Mohan's Imagination.
Cheers.
