lol..yeah..that bali decor..made me laugh!! although poor actors(all of them) did wonderful job..the best they could with the situation...omg cvs..i know you can afford a trip to some hill station at least..if not 'the bali'!!

and i know you were making all of the family members to stare at the dancing couple to give us the hotel feeling and all..but in our minds they were still naniji, mamiji, creepwa,di and all...awww...😳

Hi Marybarton;

I always wondered which of the Ekta Kapoor's shows you find so objectionable?
I have watched two of her shows, Kis Desh Mein Hai Mera Dil and Tere Liye, both which I found to be superb! In fact the the leads in KDMHMD were so poplular, their chemistry so amazing, that fans are still yearning for them to come back together. And Harshad again in Tere Liye did a fantastic job and the show was really very good! Both shows left a lasting impression on fans.
Ekta keeps to the same soap opera formula that is evident in all American soaps and it works really well. I have been watching soaps since I was very young - starting in the 80's- soaps such as Days of our Lives, General Hospital, the Young and the Restless. I am veteran of soaps and Ekta's soaps work very and keep to the spirit of what soaps meant to do.
They are not meant to be great works of cinema, created for HBO, and to that end, they are very successful.
I am very interested to know which of Ekta's shows were dismissal failures.
Of course I am not aware of all her shows, as IPK is only the third Indian show I have watched.
Nita

Nita, we can't discuss other shows here. But if you have only seen a few, you are missing the ART that is Balaji. I don't understand that comparison to everything American and Hollywood. Indian soaps and movies can be good for their own sakes. They don't have to strive to match Hollywood. If Hollywood jumped of a bridge, I hope Bollywood won't follow.

I'm reproducing a comment I wrote on another thread because it seems to fit this discussion well as well.

I disagree. I actually really liked today's episode. I think it was super cute that the family thought of something innovative and went all out to implement it. Nani, Anjali and Mamaji were especially adorable in their enthusiasm.

As for the dance, why was it awkward? It's becoming common even in India for a newly wed couple to dance with each other on their wedding night or reception. Often this is a slow, romantic dance enacted in full view of family members who are happy for you. This was just something done at home in front of close family members. Do couples show absolutely no affection in front of family members? Would you rather have the stiff awkward and distant couples that seem standard in other SP shows.

Now on to the honeymoon suites. Hello hello, if that's awkward how much worse is a suhag raat. There not only are you pushed to your nuptial bed by a gaggle of relatives, they even tend to eavesdrop outside the room 😉. Here you were just being sent off by close family members and then left at peace. Unless one is a complete prude, I don't see how this can be odd.

Episodes with a happy Khushi always make me happy.

Yes, I don't know what that was. They wanted to recreate Teri Meri and it fell flat. Maybe it's the change of directors. What an awful music to dance number. Barun and Sanaya did their best to save it. By the way, how does a Lucknowi girl know so many waltzi/flamingo moves? 😆 Ridiculous.

Random, awkward, was cringing when watching, the way the dance was and the song choice was not appropriate for that scene. ASR could have shown passion, possessiveness and made the statement 'this girl is mine' by simply using his hand and her body to illustrate this without the dramatic OTT dance moves. What I liked is their intense stare at each other and also holding each other hand; the bedroom scenes were good, like tha fact Kushi is not fighting back and he is not liking it, hope she continues😊 the acting was good though, can't fault that😊

Agree word to word. Totally cringeworthy. Imagine dancing like that in front of your fam members. I mean who does that. And what's with them falling on the bed. That was so lame. I loved monday's epi and even I will pretend that today's epi hasn't happened. I actually fast fwd the entire epi. It was so embarssing

Well I am far from a complete prude and find it offensive that not appreciating today's episode labels me one. But I found the cheap decor and the force to celebrate the HONEYMOON right in front of the family for the sister's sake nothing short of CRINGE-WORTHY. I can have a romantic dance with a husband in front of the family but will I perform like a dancing monkey for my sister's pleasure? No. Will I get romantic with someone who abused me yesterday because I am told to? No. Will I do it in a cheap Halloweeny Bali? No. (This is not a criticism of the dance which was well executed).

Of course couples are affectionate in front of their families and dance in front of their families on their wedding day and have a suhag raat in the house. But how many celebrate their honeymoon (alone time) with their family in tow in a themed party in their very own house? It is not a question of showing affection. It is the cheap way it was done and the attempt at going epic which fell flat. That is being discussed here. No one is uncomfortable with the romance. If that were true, I could have a hard time with Teri Meri which I loved.

I completely agree with you Mary.. Today's episode made me CRINGEEE as well! And the cvs are killing the romance of arhi ... How can they come up with cheap ideas like this? They started off with ASR's bare minimal wardrobe, then the plastic bathroom and now the whole set and the characters are also getting cheaper by the episode! 😡
