DAY 6 :
Anjali: "Nani ji! Hope everything goes well, I am very worried."
Naniji : " Betiya, you stay tensed for anything and everything." Nani ji smiles and pacifies Anjali. "Everything will go alright; at this point you should not take any tension. I can't wait to hear the baby's heartbeat. Also after this we are going to pick up the jewelry that I ordered for baby. So please relax dear. What do you say Damatji?" Naniji smiles and looks at Shyam.
Anjali: "Naniji! I was actually thinking of Chotey and Khushi ji, the things that are happening in Australia is not good for them in this early stage of marriage. It has not even been six months yet." Anjali looks at Shyam and sighs. Shyam hurriedly makes a face and signals not to mention any more things to naniji. Anjali changes topic and her mood: "I hope mama and mami ji comes back home soon. And mamiji chooses the sarees easily. I feel sorry for mami ji 'lol..he has to bear mami ji's shopping spree all alone. I wish Khushi ji also went with them for shopping, rather than staying home alone. She will be by herself till evening. "
Shyam looks very puzzled. "What? Mama and Mami ji, both are out of the house? Why? How long will they be out? And why did you not tell me about this?"
Anjali: "they went for shopping and to visit a relative on the way."
Shyam goes into deep thought and suddenly jumps up from the chair. "Rani Saheba, I totally forgot I have some work to do, I promised a client to meet today for very urgent work, but your doctor's visit ? it slipped from my mind. I will just go for an hour or so and will meet you at the jewelers. Can you please manage without me? Please?"
Anjali makes a sad face and agrees to it. She drifts in thought of what Shyam told her last night. If there is a single bit of truth in it, then it means that Chotey is suffering. Is Khushi really the way Shyam mentioned her to be? Did I make a mistake in knowing Khushi?
Khushi : " I need to make up my mind. Why can't I think straight? With everything happening around me, why am I still silent?" she folds her cloths and cleans her closet. She takes all of her clothes out and piles them up on the bed and starts to sort things out.
"I NEED TO MAKE AN END TO THIS VERY SOON." She seems determined.
Hari Prakash ji, "please close the door behind you when you leave for market." Khushi shouts out and runs to the hallway to answer the land phone.
Mami ji: "You Chor ! You choti kangal ! I will give you to the police and they will make you 'Chakki Pissing'. I will make sure you and your sister become clueless as Amir Khan in 'Gaajini' and your buaji becomes the biggest invisible Kangal like Anil kapoor in 'Mr India' oh no sorry, 'Miss India':!! You Phaati saree and your Khuun Bhaari tang sister!
Manorama goes on: "You and your whole family are gold diggers! The famous stealing Gupta sisters! First you 'kaala jadu' our sons and then marry in my family. Do not even think about exploiting the situation that you are alone in the Raizada mansion. If I see any of the show pieces missing or any of the silver spoons misplaced, the 'anjaam' will not be well. 'eit ne ched karenge, eit ne ched karenge that you will forget how to eat jilebis ! Haath se khaye nah paa o se'.
I have counted all my jwelleries and money. Do not put your 'gandhi' hand on anything. I will understand your theft the moment I return. 'sabdhan'. Mama ji comes running from the bill counter and snatches the phone away from Mami ji and shuts it off. "Manorama ! Enough is enough! Baas bhi kaaro ! How dare you talk to Khushi like this? Paagla ya gayi ho kya? Why did you tell her about Lavanya and Chote's marriage? "
The phone call was like a slap on her face. Khushi stands in the hallway astounded. Her heart feels heavy. It bleeds inside. Tears come pouring. She turns the TV on and looks at the screen.
A sudden noise, someone enters through the door.
Khushi blinks up and sees a shadow near the main entrance. Her heart freezes. She knows that body frame very well! And cold chill runs through her veins. She feels like fainting. But at the same time all sirens go off in her mind. Only one word comes out of her mouth, "duplicate keys". In an instant from somewhere she gathers the courage and something clicks in her head. She does something; she thought she will NEVER do in front of that man, NEVER.
She takes a deep breath and starts to run.
Khushi runs to the bathroom and the next second runs back in the room. She throws her dupatta on the floor and snaps open up the hooks of her Kameez, exposes her neckline off one shoulder. She pulls her hair down and messes it up. Takes her hair clips in hand and rams them deep into her neck and jawline and drags roughly on her delicate skin. Red marks and tiny bits of blood oozes on her collar bones. A tear of pain makes the kohl drip down her eyes. Khushi is out of breath.
The very much exposed Khushi runs down from her room and takes the stairs. "BUMP"'..She bumps and falls straight into his arms. Khushi's messed up hair sweeps along his body. A frenzy of passion runs over him. He holds her with all his might and almost squeezes her arms red, taking full advantage of the situation. Khushi grabs onto him to get her balance back. He is shocked and amused at the same time. He can't believe what just took place. A million dollar smile spreads all over his face. He has his "Khushi" all to himself, all alone in the house wrapped in his arms. He pulls her even closer and frames her body with his.
Akash : " Di " you need to hurry, please tell the driver to speed up. Under no ciscumstances should the news reach Khushi ji alone. Please make sure. I have kept Payal away from the TV and news paper. They are showing the footage of Brother's words and conversation, pictures of him leaving Lavanya's house and them hugging as well. What is he doing? Marriage? What does he mean? And how could be behave like this having such a wonderful wife? This makes no sense. I have called a hundred times since I woke up and saw it here in New York. He switched his phone off and Mr Mehta who deals everything for him in Australia said Bhai strictly told him not to disturb at any cost. Please you don't worry, I will keep you posted. Just take care of Khushi. I think it will be better to send her to her parents for some time, till the media cools down with this scandal and Bhai returns."
Khushi lowers her face down on him and whispers in his ears."Jijaji!! I think you better let me go. He will slaughter you if he sees you holding me like this."
The grin from Shyam's face disappears and pure hatred takes over. He digs into Khushi's arms and she moans out of pain. He pauses for a second and looks down on Khushi's exposed shoulder, messed up makeup and specially his eyes halts on the red marks on her neck. "Disgusting woman!" Shyam utters and shoves her down on the stair case. "Have you been with anyone? I mean is there a man in your room now? Whom have you been with? You were supposed to be on your own. ALONE. I know Arnav will not return soon."
A wicked smile spreads on Khushi's face and she answers: "YES". "There is a man in my room as we speak and I have been with him since morning. And it was a very, very good morning, one of my best mornings, if you want to know. And I was about to run to the kitchen to get us some food. We are starving and I guess that you can assume the reason for us, being so hungry.
He is "MY MAN: My ARNAV". Damn you filthy creature! Rotten scoundrel! You knew that I will be all alone, right? So you show up leaving your pregnant wife, stealing her keys, lying to her and run home to me? Have you no shame? How dare you touch me, you monster!! And you even have the audacity to think, I was with anyone else other than Arnav ji? I knew you were a pervert, but I didn't know you were a low life scum aswell. Your doubts are even dirtier than your intentions. For your information: Arnav ji returned this morning and gave me a surprise. No one knew he was coming home, coming home to ME."
Shyam listens carefully and realizes that the shower in Khushi's bedroom is running. He trembles and backs up a few step. Khushi picks herself up in an instant and runs back to her room. She locks the door and blocks it with the table and the sofa. She double checks the pool side door and draws all the curtain tightly closed. And then she collapses in fear on the floor of her room wrapping herself up in Arnav's quilt, holding his picture to her heart.
''''''''..Khushi feels blank, there is nothing remaining in her. She does not feel sad, does not feel lonely. Humiliation, respect, rules and Arnav's conditions and boundaries seems to blur out. She has nothing to misplace. Arnav left her alone.
"ARNAV! Only for you I had to go through hell. You brought me in your life, your house and then left me alone to rot. Life without you is like a living rotten hell. You were smart enough to sense my feelings for you and you used it against me. You are answerable for what just happened and for what will happen. No matter how tough you may portray yourself you are emotionally weaker than I. You ran away and YOU are solely responsible for all of my miseries. And YES, I will make you PAY."
