Just watched the episode and had to read to update in English to understand...

It's such an irony that it was becoming evident to Anjali and Nani that Arnav and Khushi were in love with each other. Anjali actually ensured that they did get some alone time at the poolside. Nani, herself incited some jealousy with regards to Khushi and NK.

Now all the drama when Arnav, who initially did not believe in marriage, finally decided to get married to someone that wanted him to end up with. I don't believe their reactions.

Poor Khushi and Arnav now have to face the entire family who are demanding an explanation...

Is it such a crime for two people to elope, especially when deep down people wanted them to end up together?

You didn't get the point. Marriage is an important step in our Indian culture. There are so many rituals to be followed, the Pandit should be present, the parents should be present etc. The FAMILY organizes, announces the wedding of their daughter/son. It's not like in the Western culture, where basically the bride and the groom have the full authority. If you know what I mean.
THAT is the problem. Less about the fact that he has decided to get married.

My apologies... Maybe I did not get the essence of the episode, etc.

However, I am sure their wedding was conducted by the priest at a temple. Just without the family.

Besides, it's ironical that the same Raizada and Gupta family were willing to conduct engagements without all family being present, viz. The Gupta's got Khushi engaged to Shayam and did not meet his family and did know anything about him, and the Raizada's were going to do the same with Lavanya!

Double standards...

So what happens to couples in India that do elope?

I don't know, at least that's what I understood from that scene. So please no apologies! :)
I agree, definitely 'double' standards there, we did argue abt it. Especially them not inquiring abt Shyam's family. At least the others spoke to Lavanya's family, and they did plan to come to the engagement, remember the phone call! (Blooper indeed)

No idea abt couples who elope, rofl. I guess they ll be forgiven some day...but it's definitely something to be ashamed of. :S Depends on the reason of course... without parents' approval, you're in trouble for sure!

Both Nani and Anjali wanted to get involved in the wedding preparations. They didn't like that all this happened so secretly and if they had known they themselves would have gladly arranged everything... that is the problem and so they were shocked and angry. I don't think they are bothered about Arnav and Khushi getting married but that both Arnav and Khushi didn't respect them enough to let them know...
But I think this is just their initial reaction...and they would get over it later...

No, it was expected that they get shocked. Obviously, they would want to know the reason for the drastic step. Nani and Anjali knows that Arnav knows his wish will be fulfilled if he asks then. Even then Arnav did this marriage leaving family alone. Why? they sense something significant had happened. They are not really against the marriage and they are against the way they married. Hence Anjali running behind Arnav to explain the reasons.

Thanks for the clarifications...

I still remain confused as to why they need explanations.

I will accept it eventually. I just need to adjust my mindset!

I shudder to think what will happen if Arnav was gay! LOL

I think the reason would be "why such a hurry"? They are afraid that the two might have slept and Khushi could be pregnant. She did fall unconscious yesterday(Hawan day). she has spent so much time disappearing... and then the A in her mehendi. Subconsciously, that's why Garima slapped her. They are afraid of the reason!!

The are plain shocked and don't know how exactly to react in the situation like this thus the reaction. Since it's a TV show, so gotta have lil more exaggeration. Anji and Nani kind of getting used to with the idea of Arnav and Khushi together but even they didn't expect this to happen that too so soon. And rest of the family it was more shocking than anything else. Even though they may( I'm sure they will) accept their marriage the question of "Why did they do this without informing us?" would be more prominent in everyone's mind until they get their answer.

Marriage is revered in India - it's not taken lightly. And it's something that has social sanction, and needs the approval on parents, extended family and society in general. Hence the emphasis on huge weddings with many guests 😊

I think the reactions we saw from the families - basically sheer shock and disbelief that the two of them sneaked away like that and that too on such an important occasion.

And then they turn up married, and don't bother with an explanation. I think any parent, sibling, grandparent would feel let down..

Then there's the whole "majboori" bit - who compelled them to take such a drastic step and not wait? When are marriages rushed?

My two cents...

I think the reactions were in line with what you'd see in most Indian families.
