I like to think of the mehendi as "mood mehendi." It turns black when arnav is feeling angry/jealous/annoyed and turns red when he's feeling loving/flirty. All colors in the middle have to do with the level of intensity felt. They function as a warning system for Kushi so she knows what to excpet for him. 😆
