I thought about it too as to why did he come back and try to talk to her in a softer tone...

If you carefully observe his facial expressions in the previous epi when his di told him that it was she who broke the lappy, you could see that he was utterly shocked...

We know what happened after that...His di tried to apologize to Khushi but he stopped her from doing so by hurling some more insults at K...But what happened after that I think is the key...We all thought his 'rabba we' moment was random...

But he did throw a meaningful and sympathetic glance at K...May be he thought it was between them and didn't want Anjali to steal the moment...And when he found K all alone by herself, he tried to speak to her about it???

And I think that was evening by then and he already came back from work...that's why he was in his T's when she threw that cuppa tea...after which he went and changed into those clothes...

PS: Of course random things happen in these shows which are totally inexplicable and illogical...Sometimes it is futile to put so much thought into these characters and stories and they are better off taken as mere daily soaps...They run the story day to day keeping an eye on the TRP meters...Stories and characters even if they start off well, do become inconsistent eventually...Except Kutumb (which was short and sweet...) every drama that I tried to watch later has left me with utter disappointment...This is the 5th one in line and this time I am totally guarded and prepared for the worst...haha
