Take My Breath Away
She had felt herself go underwater with him, her anchor who held her as they both sank and yet she felt like she had never been more secure. His kiss had given her the breath of life she would willingly give away for this one moment. She kissed him back knowing it was wrong but that felt so right.
She had been having the toughest time these last few days. She had wondered what had gotten into him. He had first avoided her when she came to RM. But since few days he was always around. She wondered why and then that day it had happened.
He had come into the room and hugged her. She never did come to know if he had thought it was Lavanya and he had touched her that way or was there something else. Wasn't there something in his eyes that she had seen? Wasn't there that look of wanting to kiss her. Her lips had parted in anticipation, her cheeks had burned and her eyes, she knew her eyes must have given her away. She could not believe they could have been so blatant that too with Lavanya in the bathroom. On hearing her voice, she had broken free and run out. Only to catch herself falling, falling deeply for this man's touch.
She could remember each and every moment when she had felt that way before. The way he held her hand when she was about to fall from the office had been like a security she had sought all her life. But he got her wires mixed, the electricity that flowed from him to her made her brains fry and she had blurted the things she did not want to say. Why did she always do that? And he had left her hand. He was the most obnoxious man she had ever met and still there was something in his eyes. She saw concern for her. Even when he had saved her and given her the coat, his words had been cutting but his eyes were saying something else. She had felt it but pride had stopped her from acknowledging it.
Even when he had asked her "Tum Theek ho" she had reacted, not the usual Khushi but some demon inside had reacted as if a red rag had been shown to the bull and she had charged. She knew she could give it back to him word for word, each insult paid back with interest. But why did it not make her feel good?
Even in the store room he had stopped ranting at her, moved away, even offered her water and what had she done? Accused him. Well, she knew why, she had been scared. But later she had wondered if being stuck with him in a storeroom had scared her of him or of her own self. For it was on Teej that it had changed things for her. He had broken her fast. And she had again yelled at him. He had told her she was fainting and he was concerned. She had seen it in his eyes but she had ignored that. She had insulted him yet again. Well, what was a girl to do? She had to defend herself. How could she feel something for him. But she had felt it. The frisson when their hands had met when took the thali of aarti from her. And their eyes had collided. For a moment, she had tunneled out everything and everyone out, the only two people existed then were them and them alone.
Today, Khushi did not question, did not argue or even insult. Today there was a shift in their relationship. He had asked her for help and she had given it. She had expected him to glare at her for spilling water on him and he had smiled. Something had changed. And then she had pushed him. Why? Beats her. But she did. She had felt playful with him. And now here she was clutching his tshirt that was stuck to him like glue as he kissed her. She was overwhelmed with the feeling of being complete. Today she felt like she had come home.
She had found love and if this was her last breath, she did not fear it for that breath could be with him.
