Differences Between Arnav and Shyam - Viewpoint

Lately I have seen some posts that have been comparing Arnav's behaviour/actions to that of Shyam's, stating that what he is doing is the same as what Shyam is doing to Anjali.

So felt like making a post to put my viewpoint across.

Whilst there are similarities between the two, personally I think it incorrect to be placing both of them in the same boat and stating that what Arnav is doing to Lavanya is the same as what Shyam is doing to Anjali. My reasons for this point of view is as follow:

- First and foremost Shyam is married to Anjali, they have taken vows to love, obey, be faithful to one another until the end of time (or until one passes away or seperates). Arnav on the other hand is only in a relationship with Lavanya, although it too comes with expectations and a bond, there has been no declaration in from of God to love and obey one another

- Shyam on many occasions has declared his undying devotation to Anjali and that he worships the ground she walks on. He has continually stated to Anjali that she in the only woman for him and that no one else could/will take her place. To the best of my knowledge arnav has not even uttered those three words to Lavanya yet. He has stated why Lavanya is suitable but never has be shown romantic feelings towards her or said that he loves her. From my stand-point he is with Lavanya because he doesn't know any different.

- Shyam is intentionally persuing Khushi, he has been shown to have 'romantic' notions of feelings towards her. Khushi is not aware of Anjali and vice versa Anjali is not aware or Khushi. Shyam has intertwined himself with the family, and makes no comments when Buaji clearly shows ideas of having Shyam getting hitched with Khushi. Shyam has contiously shown ulterior motives for being around Khushi and his feelings for her are evident. Arnav has yet to realise his feelings, although yes the audience knows that he is falling for Khushi, he has yet to grasp this. Right now he is at the stage of wondering why this girl has so much importance in his life. All the times where he has been in close proximity to her has always been due to situation where he is trying to help her out/save her. He has never touched her with 'romantic intentions'. The one time where he brushed away her hair in the building scene, I think this was more that he was in awe of her simplicity then he was falling in love with her. Difference here is Shyam is very much aware of his feelings and actions, whereas Arnav has not grasped them yet.

But that does not mean that I don't think what he is putting Lavanya through is correct. He is misleading her and I hope he sets the record straight with her and soon. But I don't think that we can put both Arnav and Shyam in the same category, their situations are completely different in my eyes.

So there you go there is my viewpoint, agree or not agree please do put your thoughts through.

And I agree, If indeed ASR does not have any feelings of the romantic nature (he hasnt stated either or at the moment) then he needs to stop stringing Lavanya along, no matter what the girl has done, no one deserves to be treated like that. I am hoping once he realises his feelings for our Jalebi girl he will set the record straight with Lavanya

Where Shyam has the heart of a Rakshas..He is evil and his intentions towards Khushi are not honourable..He presents the facade of a very loving husband and he is consciously making every effort to ride in two boats at the same time..Shyam is a a lecher...Let us say if I was marooned on a desert Island I would take Arnav over Shyam anyday.. i really want to find out about shyam and his true intentions, many of us dislike him, but i want definate confirmation that he is evil and -ve in the serial, too many times i have seen a charatcer portrayed as -ve, but then there is more to the story then meets the eye. But yes right now i agree with you i would take ASR over Shyam any day.

Julz, thanks for the great post. I never compared Arnav to Shyam because I felt that they were traveling on different boats. Arnav has a relationship with Lav and he is not being insincere to her. He tells Lav how he expects her to be and that marriage is not an option. While, Shyam says Anjali is his world while he daydreams about Khushi. Arnav has not acknowledge why Khushi is always in his thoughts and he rages for this. Whereas, Shyam enjoys thinking of Khushi and pretending to have genuine feelings for her. I really hope he is not cheating on Anjali and has other reasons to care for Khushi.
