PART 6

Shlok decided to stay at Aastha's place during the night, since they all had to go out on the next day, i.e. Sunday. While Aastha was making the kids sleep, Shlok waited downstairs and watched T.V...After that Aastha made arrangements for him to sleep in the guest bedroom.
He slept in that room and she slept with the kids..

In the morning, he was getting ready in his room. Just then the kids came running to his room. Each of them was holding 2 sarees each..Shlok was surprised..

S: What is all this, my sweethearts...?
Ay: We are helping Mumma to get ready..
N: Yes Papa..But we are confused with these 4 sarees..
Ay: Please tell na..Which one is the best..

Aastha hastily came after the kids and stood at the doorway, Shlok didn't see her..As she watched the scene unable to say anything, he took a blue sari and examined it..

S:This will be perfect..But your Mumma is so beautiful that any saree would suit her..

Aastha felt blood rushing into her cheeks and those words reverberated inside her mind.." Mumma is so beautiful.." Shlok suddenly noticed Aastha and he felt something stir in his heart..Her hair was wet and she had been toweling it when the kids took her sarees and went into Shlok's room..She was alarmed that he wouldn't like it and so she ran after them with the towel in her hand..She was wearing a plain sari now..

Shlok took the blue saree and went towards her. He handed it to her and she took it mutely..Their eyes met and wordless messages were being conveyed through them..Aastha managed a smile and walked back with her mind disturbed by an unknown feeling..

Shlok took them all to a water theme park as the kids were insisting to go there. .. Aastha didn't get into the water as she didn't like it..She just spent her time looking after the kids and watching them enjoying with Shlok..They all enjoyed immensely and when the evening came, the kids were not at all ready to come back..After much coaxing, they managed to take the kids out of that place..

At night they all had dinner from a restaurant and came back to Aastha's villa. The kids had fallen asleep in the car itself..Aastha carried Navya and Shlok took Ayaan in his arms.. Both of them went into the kids' bedroom and laid them down on the bed.

Aastha looked at Shlok..

A: Shlok, I have to talk to you..
S: What is it, Aastha..?
A: We can sit in the drawing room and talk..

Shlok nodded and followed her to the drawing room..They sat on the couch.
A: I have a request to you..

S: What is it..? I am really indebted to you Aastha..You can ask me anything..
A: Only a few days are left for this drama to end..After that you all will return to Pune..I want you to talk with your wife and bring her back to the kids..Promise me that you will..

Shlok didn't know what to say..He got up..

S:I can't promise you that..I am sorry Aastha..Goodnight..

He walked off to his room without uttering another word..Aastha sighed and shook her head feeling exasperated..

Next day morning, Shlok had left for his office even before Aastha got up..She went into the kitchen and saw a message in her cell phone from Shlok..

" Good morning Aastha..I am leaving early..I have a meeting to attend..Convey my regards to the kids.."

Aastha was not at all happy with his behavior..She knew that he was avoiding her..She went down into the kitchen and made breakfast for her and the kids..After some time Ayaan came down the stairs and hugged Aastha from behind..

A:Goodmorning Ayaan beta..
Ay: Good morning Mumma(smiling)
A: Where is Navya..?
Ay: She is still sleeping..
A: Why..you didn't wake her up?
Ay: I tried.. But she cried and slept again..
A:She might be tired after yesterday.. Do you want to have breakfast now beta..?Or do you want to wait for your sister..?
Ay: I am hungry Mumma..Please give me something to eat..
A: Ok baba..Did you brush your teeth..?
Ay: Yes Mumma..

Aastha served his breakfast for him and went on with her usual chores. It was 11 am and still Navya didn't get up..Aastha also didn't have her breakfast as she had thought that she will have it with Navya..Aastha went up the staircase and she reached inside the bedroom.. Kavya was still asleep..Aastha sat beside her and took her tiny hand in her hand..It was really hot..Aastha was alarmed and she felt her forehead..It was also really hot and Aastha was sure that she was having a high fever.

She immediately dialed the hospital number and made an appointment with the Child specialist doctor. Then she carried her downstairs and took Ayaan also with her to the hospital..

The doctor did the check up and he told that the kid was to be admitted in the hospital.

Navya was moved into a child specialist ward and was lying on a bed..
Shlok rushed into the hospital as soon as he got the information..He reached into the Kids' ward and his eyes filled with tears as he saw Navya's condition..Aastha was sitting beside her..She was still angry with him and didn't smile at him..

S: What happened..?
A:(seriously) She is having a fever because yesterday she played in the water for a long time..
S: I will go and talk with the doctor..
A: It's o.k. Shlok..I have talked with him..There is nothing to worry..Once the fever subsides we can take her home..You can go to your office if you want..I will take care of her..
S: No yaar Aastha..I want to stay here..
A: Ok then do one thing..Take care of Ayaan..It is not safe for him to sit in this ward..What if he also gets affected by some contagious disease..There are lots of patients in here..Please take him out..
Shlok understood that she was cross with him for yesterday's incident..
S: O.k..Come on Ayaan..

Shlok took him outside. Aastha was in no mood to talk to Shlok.."Why couldn't he understand that the kids need a mother..? He cannot just look after them all alone.."

In the afternoon he brought in some food for her..But she refused..
A: I don't want Shlok..I am not in a mood to have something..
Shlok shrugged and walked out with the food parcel, holding Ayaan's hand..

It was night time and still Aastha didn't have any food..Even Shlok didn't have anything after he had come to the hospital..He too was worried for Navya..
The doctor came inside and did some check up again..Shlok and Ayaan walked inside to hear what the doctor would say..

Doc: The patient is recovering..You may take her home..Her fever has not subsided completely...So I will prescribe some medicines and you must give them to her on time..She needs complete rest for two days...Please take care of that too..

On their way back in the car, Shlok and Ayaan were sitting in the front seat..Aastha was sitting at the back with Navya lying in her lap..She was still in an angry and sad mood..Angry with Shlok and sad because of Navya's fever..Shlok was also feeling really bad because she wasn't talking to her and he was anxious about Navya's condition..They reached home and Aastha carried Navya upstairs and laid her on the bed..Ayaan followed her and he too jumped on to the bed ..Shlok also went upstairs..As he was passing the room, he heard Aastha's voice and stopped at the kids' bedroom door.

A:(kindly) Ayaan..You can't sleep here..She needs rest..
Ay:(not budging) I want to sleep here with her..I always sleep beside her...
A: (voice rose) Ayaan..I told you ..you can't..Come on..get up..
Ay:(raises his voice too)No Mumma...I won't go..(deliberately lay close to Navya)

Aastha lost her control and she pulled him out of the bed and began to beat him with her hand..She hit on his arm and his thighs and scolded him severely..

A:(furiously) Can't you just listen to me...(beating)..I told you that you can't sleep with her..( still beating) Don't you know how to obey..

Shlok watched the scene unbelievably..Ayaan was crying loudly..Shlok went and took him in his arms and carried him to the guest bedroom..He laid the crying kid on the bed and tucked the blanket upon him..Shlok caressed Ayaan's cheek and kissed his forehead..

S: Navya is not well beta..You can't sleep with her..
Ay:(relaxed a bit) Ok Papa..I will sleep here..goodnight..
S:Good night beta..

Shlok walked out of the room and closed the door..Aastha was coming out of Navya's room just then..Tears were streaming down her eyes. She avoided Shlok and turned to walk away from him. Shlok caught hold of her hand and she stopped..

S: Today I saw their mother..

A:(turns towards him surprised)What..?!

S: I saw their mother in You, Aastha..When you were beating Ayaan..When you were taking care of Navya..

Aastha was dumbstruck..Shlok took hold of her shoulders and pulled her closer to him..She surveyed his eyes and saw tears forming in them..

S: Please Aastha..Can't we turn this drama into a reality..We want you in our lives..

Aastha was relieved from her initial shock and reality hit her..Fury bubbled inside her and she pushed his hands away from her body..She shrieked at him enraged..

A: HOW DARE YOU, SHLOK..?!! (then sobs madly) I don't understand this..Why can't you just bring back their mother, instead of inviting me into your life..? You know what Shlok, you are disgusting..!! (wipes her tears away fuming with anger)

S:(sighs helplessly) I can't Aastha..I can't..(holds his forehead nervously)

A:(shouts ) BUT WHY..??

S:(gently) She is no more..

A: What..?!!(clasps her open mouth with a hand)

She stared at him incredulously..

S: Yes their mother is not alive..But she was not my wife..She was my sister..
