I have only watched the SRK version and from that it was quite young - but I don't think they were suppose to have a 8 year age gap...Chandni being in love with Dev -I am sure was not part of the original story it got introduced in week 6, quite abruptly.. and then once they shifted to Mumbai it became the DevNi story - a lot simpler to resolve than the Adni story in a short time!
Devdas is a young man from a wealthy Bengali Brahmin family in India in the early 1900s. Parvati (Paro) is a young woman from a middle class Bengali Brahmin family. The two families live in a village called Taalshonapur in Bengal, and Devdas and Parvati are childhood friends.
Devdas goes away for a couple of years to live and study in the city of Calcutta (now Kolkata). During vacations, he returns to his village. Suddenly both realise their easy comfort in each other's innocent comradeship has changed to something different. Devdas realises Parvati is no longer the small girl he knew. Parvati looks forward to their childhood love blossoming into their lifelong journey together in marriage. Of course, according to the prevailing social custom, Parvati's parents would have to approach Devdas' parents and propose marriage of Parvati to Devdas as Parvati longs for.

Sana, agree with you ...Mumbai adni was much easier to solve ...

Sabi - I completely agree with what you say... the original characterisations of Advay and Chandni was about their differences and how they compliment each other and how through their journeys they meet in the middle...His belief in revenge, hers in forgiveness... her initial dialogs about not needing to beat anyone and anger never helps a cause just ruins it... was all about showing their differences...Had we got the full original story it could have been so deep and beautiful... bloody need for TRP trivialised so much of it and them!

I respect your views. The original concept that the religious rituals can be explained through science was good thing except that science is not a religion. Religion is related to spirituality while science doesn't believe in soul. The meeting of science and spirituality is something which looks good on paper but impossible to exhibit on screen like you mentioned above with different examples. Also. there were already too many subplots going on. They should have kept things simple. focus on main story, get it established and then move on to next one and usually gul is really good at it. This time, I just don't know why the team acted so unprofessionally. The CGI effects are best suited to paranormal/fantasy genre, gul is expert in mills and boons romance, she should focus on her strengths. and she should make paranormal dramas to deal with science and philosophical matters.I am just sad among all this we didn't get the chance to enjoy more of barun and shivani and even indrani!
