The way I perceived that scene: PP intends to bed her before the wedding and leave her. He really doesnt want to marry her and is just a sleazebag. However, it seems like that PP's mom is not aware of his intentions. She wants to keep up appearances and have a male grandchild which is why she wants Chandini to get married to PP. Both PP and his mom have different motives.
