om= the universal almighty
trayambakam= three eyed
yajamahe= we worship/adore/honour/revere
sugandhim =sweet fragrance
pushti = well nourished /thriving /prosperous /complete/full
vardhanam =one who nourishes/strengthens/causes well being/ increases health/gladdens/exhilarates
Urva rukam= disease/ attachment/obstacles
iva= just like /similar to
vandhanan= stem of gourd /attachments in life
mrityor= from death
mukshiya = free us /liberate us
ma = not
amritat =immortality /emancipation
OM we worship you adore you , Oh three eyed one O Shiva you are sweet gladness , the fragrance of life , who nourishes us, restores our health , and causes us to thrive .. just like the cucumber in the vine is freed from the vine after its stem weakens...so free us from attachment n death and do not withhold immortality .
This verse is from the ancient sacred Hindu scripture Rigveda ... The last sukta is the 59th one .. It is the last verse of that sukta revering the Triambaka ...
The initial ones are adressed in reverence of the other powerful forms of universe worshipped by Hindus ...Indra (the creator of universe) Varuna (revered for force of the oceans ,skies/wind/ breeze) etc ...
