I am bringing yet another story on Rikara, this time a gothic style love story with super-natural background. Hope you will like it and if you do, please show some love to it.
So, without much ado, here it goes:
THE ENCHANTED SEASONS
SUMMER
Part 1: It's a dull world, but not anymore?
Omkara stared out of his window and looked at the greenery outside, it was all green, stark green, summer had descended full and well , it was absolutely beautiful, with birds chirping, water fountains alive and buzzing with sound, the courtyard washed in bright sunshine. But what was different? It was the same old, same old.
It was a summer like any other, which Omkara had witnessed every year of his life, and now he was turning eighteen soon. It had been eighteen years and, same town, same summer, same home, same window, same school and same friends. It was an absolutely dull life for an intelligent, challenge seeking Omkara. He wanted to travel, to see other places, be other things, meet other people, but alas, he was stuck, in this small town in Himachal, which went by the name of Sheesham.
Sheesham, was a town with a legacy of royals and patriots and infamous for its other worldly stories. Yes, it was known for its magic and black magic. Omkara's family had always belonged here, since times immemorial; the Trivedi's were the high Brahmins during the Dark ages when the caste system was in full force. At the time, they enjoyed many powers, they were in-charge of the temples and responsible for educating all and sundry. But time never remains the same. Today, the Trivedi family was like any other family of Sheesham, although very wealthy and respected, they didn't have any powers left, democracy ruled, these were the modern times. Little did the town know, that time changes, but not everything changes.
Omkara lived with his cousin Anika, who was elder to him and his ill aunt. Anika worked in the University library, she didn't need to as they had enough wealth to feed the next five generations, but she liked being busy. Yes, Sheesham , although a small town had a University, which was specifically famous for its Theology and alternate practices course, including magic . Omkara was studying here as well, as per family traditions. That's what Trivedi's were, destined to follow tradition, and they never digressed. Omkara wanted to break out of the mould ever since he was a little child but before dying, his mother, Jhanvi had made him promise, that he would not leave the town until he was an adult, and finished inter. Omkara was very close to his mother and couldn't break that promise. He also didn't want to go too far away, he felt responsible for his ill aunt and his cousin Anika.
He had accepted his fate, but recently, from the past few months, he had started feeling very restless and impatient. He was getting nightmares every other night. And this morning he had woken up with another one of those. He just wanted to get away, away from his life, to a new world, if it existed. But today was the start of a new year at University after the term break and Omkara got up when the alarm sounded again and this time it was also Anika shouting from downstairs.
"Omkara, if you don't wake up now, I will have to come and make you get up. This is your first day back, after the break, you better not be late, last term I had too many complaints about you. Not this time, else you wait and watch what I will do to you.
Omkara smiled at his sister's antics and walked to the bathroom, yawning.
That day in class, Ishana, wearing a very revealing dress walked towards him and whispered in a seductive tone, "hello Omkara, how are you, did you miss me during the holidays?' Ishana was almost cooing into his ears, which he found irritating.
"I am ok Ishana, how are you? Omkara didn't want to be rude.
"I am fine, except I just thought of you all my holiday" Ishana traced her finger on his shoulder answering in a flirty tone.
Omkara decided to ignore her and carried on doodling in his sketchbook, he was trying to capture, his dream/ nightmare. He was lost in his sketch when the entire class got up to wish the tutor who asked everyone to settle down and took attendance. Still lost in his sketchbook, and with no interest in the subject matter, he heard a sudden buzz in the class with whispers and suppressed giggles and sighs at the same time, giggles from the girls and sighs from the...
Not able to ignore the buzz anymore, he lifted his head to find out what the new development was which had generated so much buzz in an otherwise dull class, and looked straight into dark amber eyes, kohl-lined and stunning, the eye lashes extending to Neverland. All the boys in the room were mooning over the girl who stood at the door. She was exquisite, wearing a very simple black cotton kurta shirt over grey jeans and black boots, her hair also pitch-black and wavy, complimenting her attire were shining in the bright light from the corridor. She looked defiant and sad at the same time.
"May I come in sir? she requested.
"Yes, yes dear. Since it is first day today, I will allow you, but don't be late from tmrw. The tutor replied.
She looked around the room and came and sat in the only empty desk, in front of Omkara!
Omkara had never been so stunned in his life, Sheesham, although a beautiful town itself, was very familiar to him with all its beauty and magic, but the aroma emanating from the desk in from of him with this exquisite creature now occupying that seat, Omkara felt his senses on red alert and his spirits lifting.
"I just finished taking attendance. Miss? the tutor spoke once again after she had settled.
"Oberoi, I presume?" Ishana spoke before the addressee could answer. This was followed by a huge unanimous gasp in the room, with most students' jaw dropping and the whispering presumed, this time with more tongues wagging.
"What?
"The Oberois are back in town?
"My mom said they had left for good.
"Who cares? She is so pretty. Look at her.
"Are you sure? How do you know Ishana?
"I know all gossip; the Khanna's were in the mansion from past few weeks cleaning and setting security, I was curious then.
"Be careful, stay away from them.
The addressee was trying to avoid listening to all this rubbish, she just wanted to escape.
"It starts all over again, she thought. "When and how will I escape from all this, it follows me everywhere I go."
Tired of the gossip, she stood up defiantly and answered, "Yes sir, I am Gauri Singh Oberoi".
Omkara snapped the pencil he was holding in his palm, staring at his sketchbook, where in an attempt to capture his nightmare, he had drawn , an exact image of the girl standing right there, in front of him, except that in his drawing, her face was half covered with her hair.
...END of PART 1...
As you would have read, Omkara is a Trivedi and Gauri an Oberoi in this one - more to unfold in next update. Sneak peak - Confrontation between Rikara.
So, what do you think? Shall I continue?
I need atleast a critical mass of comments and likes please. I hope you will appreciate the effort.
Thank you in advance.
