Very good post
Frankly TRP and popularity have been two different things in Indian television for a long time now.

Apart from number of audience who watch a show in TV there should be other factors to calculate TRP...

This confusing TRP has been reason of many popular shows going off air

Basically by calculating TRP they weigh the amount of sponsorship a show garners. So this should also become applicable for online viewing and /or social media mention

By adding up everything only a proper judgement can be passed on which show is top

Say, I like a show that airs at 7 but I come back from work only at 8 I will obviously watch the show online. I cannot change my life routine for a show can I?

Makers and channels should discuss all this and arrive at a solution that suits digital era

As you mentioned there are thousand actors around the country also technicians. One show shutting down means lots of people becoming jobless. Unlike films to get next and better project for TV actors is difficult.

I believe it is because a reputed channel like SP has a lots of shows under their sleeves and so they want to cut off what is not working and continue experimenting

They can afford it

What rep are you talking about SP? they have lost the head in the game & have been out of TRP race for a long time now. SP was number 1 channel & unbeatable for so many years coz it concentrated on promoting it's daily shows which are bread & butter. They spent their time & money in reality shows which pulled them down giving threats to cut off shows? šŸ¤”

Truth be told, many except 2 shows every other show isn't doing that great. They can't afford to scrap so many shows & wait for new viewers to give them TRPs. All they need to do is stop meddling with PH & concentrate on advertising their existing shows to get the numbers.

In short it's popularity is making SP expect a lot from it.plus it's a multicast show so you can not guess how much budget per episode is spent (forget repeated costumes and fake locations I m talking about their salary)on IB.All that comes from channel only.i heard somewhere when kyunki's TRP started to decrease the makers made sure not to include main characters together in an episode to reduce the budget of the episode.they even made use of body doubles instead just to ensure that.

So SP will be definitely expecting more from IB than other shows .lets just hope TRP increases next week.Right now we can only hope for that 😊

I guess the least they can do is to count their own digital platforms like average out the hits or something caz come One all channels have their own streaming sites so why can't they include them too in basic ratings that can be a start rest they go ahead from there

This was a topic that I was also getting puzzled about -trying to understand how this works.
Since I'm from the Middle East I do not contribute to TRP. I know quite a lot of people to watch Ishqbaaz. In fact IPK1 was a craze here when they dubbed it n Arabic. There is a very good potential market here for Indian shows.

I also fail to understand how some of the regressive/repetitive shows do perform so well in the TRP race. Some of these contents on these shows really make u wonder whether we are living in the same era.

Ishqbaaz has been the only show I've watched from day one and never missed a single episode. My friends here and back in SL have been loyal viewers from day one. Will the Indian TRP judgement solely cater to the international preference ? What about young adults and the younger generations ? What are the contributions of the from online viewers ?

Should a simple meter in a limited reach of the audience will be the ultimate deciding factor ? Will SP ever think in lines of creativity and novelty or is it all rupees and cents.

In the West the TV viewership criteria seems to be more sophisticated and it is at a different league.

If the TRP is the only deciding factor all the very best for the new show line up,
