Ratings versus Popularity

I see that the ardent viewers (On IF/FB/Twitter everywhere and I am not talking of any single person specifically) are requesting everyone to watch the show on television to help in ratings. Fair enough, I can understand that. That sad feeling when a show you love, comes to an end. Have been there, done that.

As a viewer, I have a choice as to what medium I use to watch a show and at what time I will, depending on my convenience.

Viewers reasoning that the ratings go down due to hotstar. Isn't the channel aware of this? They are only uploading it in Indian time.

The channels don't have a problem. About their intervention to pull any show off-air, there is no dearth of stories or new production houses. They will continue to experiment with all stories that they THINK will fetch them money.

The "TRP Aunties" is large misconception as a thought. As far as my understanding goes, the ratings meter are only placed in few handful of homes. Its been a topic of debate for a decade now. It does not reflect the actual numbers.

The methods of calculating the ratings should change. For that, the makers and the crew involved in production of shows should also believe that the ratings are skewed. If in spite of the popularity of their respective shows, they have to take it up with the concerned authorities. Afterall they have membership...the kinds like television artistes association or whatsoever.

The actors and technical team are the ones suffering due to this disparity. Its hard to find work. There are lakhs of people dreaming about success in Mumbai in the entertainment industry. They can take efforts at their end by uniting against the issue. After all, its their bread and butter.

The artistes and technical crew and the producers pumping money can take it up with the I and B ministry as a collective voice. That's provided they too feel that the ratings don't reflect the popularity their show enjoys. Its a digital era. If they don't respect their own viewers/fanbase, there is hardly anything a viewer can do.

If producers and makers continue with their Baba Adam ke zamane ka technicalities, they will have to deal with this forever.

Nice post😳
about SP pulling IB off air, well that's SP's choice if according to them IB isnt performing, but truth be for past 3-4 yrs the slot of 10pm never ever had trps above 1.0... so it's their choice😊

people are sad the show they love is going off air, but truth be all shows will go off air one day. better you people brace yourself and learn to cherish and appreciate what is given till it's given😊

on a positive note, we shivika fans cant complain because shivika have a beautiful journey which we can always watch back anytime now😳- the rest is pure bonus for us fans😳

and on another note, none can understand what the trp viewers even watch now😆

Seriously this is digital era and its high time that trp rating system should be changed but as you said that this task should be initiated from production. Exactly there are so many people looking for success and getting work isn't easy for a top class performer actors too. Shows which have fresh content are lacking behind in trps where as all shows which keep showing same story from years are in top.
Seriously don't know how this trp works and who r those people having these trp meters

Pretty awesome post.

People online do not have a very clear understanding of how TRPs work. Because basically, if you DON'T have a TRP meter installed in ypur house, it won't matter whether you watch online or on TV - it counts as the same.

I dunno if this is true, but I read somewhere long back that TRPs can be so inaccurate that sometimes, they're only coming in from 10-12 homes in certain cities. Also it doesn't help that BARC is the only TRP measure in the country. They're basically a monopoly and have been accused of Data corruption many times. There are MANY, MANY other problems. These are just a few.

Moreover, the future is all digital - especially in a country like India which is supposedly the next big digital market after China was deemed too authoritarian for Internet freedom. Here, the government seems anxious for huge global digital giants - like Google, Amazon etc - to invest in the country in all forms (including originak content) and seems willing to change laws for it, too. So,sooner or later they'lll just HAVE to include online audiences or they'll be left way behind as the secondary audiences - people 10-30 yrs in age - who already only prefer to watch online - become the main audience in 10 odd years and koi BARC ko pooche ga bhee nai 😆 So basically, BARC's determination to not accept online viewership as mainstream is an inevitably losing battle. They have a choice; either become a part of the future now or suffer because it's too late - and they seem to be Going for the wrong pick.

As for IB, hard to accept, but it does seem like we're nearing the end. Anyway, I'd say that our ShivIka's journey has been better and more well thought out thanANY OTHER TV show out there. They're TV gold - whether the numbers ever reflect that or not.

I'm not from India so I can't say that I understand the Trp issue, but it looks pretty flawed. In the time of digital, they definitely need to foucs more on that since many people have abonden tv which is why major companies around the world are doing a streaming media like Netflix.

About the show ending, I feel both Shivaay and Omkara have completed their journeys and reached the goals that were set for them at the beginning so I'm actually satisfied with that 😊. Rudra on the other hand has yet to complete his journey which I'm sad about because his character has a potential and his actor has been doing a good job (I hope cvs use the current track to develop him!).

Anyway, the Obbros concept is such a brilliant idea because we have so many shows about romance, but few about bromance which what makes this show so great to me. So, thank you staff for making IB and I hope you get the chance to end the show in your own terms instead of SP pulling the plug.

We got a JOURNEY like no other on the Indian television. Such a beautiful one, and complete. So, like you said, all this is just a bonus we are getting. And there's just SO much in that journey for us to cherish.

No qualms with IB ending. I think it has had a pretty good run even with all the illogical stuff.😆 Only thing, I'll miss the cast. NM-SC, especially. The way they enact their scenes, the nuances...it'll be hard to find another pair like their's. IB has been great for them. They need another great writer and show for their level of performance.

About trps..this system is pretty bad. Quality work like last week's hardly got good numbers, and tracks like Pia's got em. So, clearly it's no system to grade good or bad content.

Sadly, we can't blame the audience for dropping this show or not trusting it again. Writers were pretty careless until recently.

I agree with you Avat. Even I live in UK I don't understand the TRP. There are also channels who have lower trp then IB but still are on and also if I am right drama Jennifer winged drama Behayd drama, it had lower trp still Sony didn't take it off air.

Since I dont live in India I sadly can't help to raise the TRP
But i agree with most of you
Shivika had their journey they had hate love separation remarriage etheir Consummation everything now is a bonus.

I still would love for Om and Gauri to get remarried in front of the whole family before even thinking about consummation or ending their story. There is still so much left unsaid: like the whole Misunderstandings just vanished Om never learned the truth that Gauri was sold and tortured etc.

As for Rudra I really hope we get to see his story before the show ends. He deserves to be an Ishqbaazi just like his Brothers.

Currently the track is not my favorite because the built up wasn't as nice as I hoped it to be.
Though I really want to see how the three brothers will reunite. How they will win against Svetty( the worst Villian btw)

And the track I am dying to see is the Sister Revelation Track- how Gauri and Anika will find out that they are sisters and if they find out more about their parents etc.

For now all we can do is be patient I guess and what annoys me the most are the fandom wars.
In the end we all love Ishqbaaaz so why not unite?

I mean okay it is true that Shivika had a little more Screen Time than the rest but I think that is because like Kunal said they are the mature couple they are the eldest and this track is mostly flr them

So i really really hope we will see mlre of RiKara and RuVya :D

Hopefully I offended no one Or initiated any kind lf negative discussion by stating my POV :D
