The Forgotten Letter
"Rudra this is not done! When will you be serious in life." Exclaimed an annoyed Janvi as she dusted one by one the pile of books before her on the dinning table as she sat opposite to Rudra who was wondering from where to start flipping the pages of the book in hand. After all the finals were approaching, the only time Rudra Singh Oberoi studied.
"Arey mom. Serious honga toh aap sab log naa ro ro ke apne aapka bura haal karlenge." chuckled Rudra.
" O shut up Rudra! " Jaanvi glared at him.
"Pata hai ye iss garh mein sabka favourite dialogue hai."
Jaanvi sighed. "Dont waste time and study. O god look at these books they look like they have been stored up for centuries. Tumhara kya hoga Rudra."
"O Mom dont be a typical mom. "
Jaanvi nodded her head. Indeed nothing could be done. She took the next book on the pile, curious about the subject she flipped through the pages. She herself had studied Business Management and was a topper but alas none of her kids were on jer or eother Tej dor that matter. While Om pursued art, Prinku science and her younger one girls! She was okay as long as she he did something in life but this little baby of hers had grown into a Bigger Baby and nothing more. Had it not been for Shivaay's defence she would have been still a stricter mom. But for one she knew thta Omkara and Shivaay could make Rudra the better person anytime and would always be his protectors and guide.
"Waise...mummy..." his voice trailed.
While Jaanvi smiled slightly knowing where this was going. After all he called her Mummy, now.
"Hmm."
"Please mera assignment kardo naa..Please. Shivaay Bhaiyaa kar lete par wo busy hain. Toh..
"Really? I m sure you come first for Shivaay so you tell him okay" she spoke sweetly hiding her smirk. She knew pretty well that this was one thing Shivaay dint approve of. He always wanted Rudra to do his tasks in hand all by himself. Though at most tomes he did cheat and help Rudra without Rudra's knowledge of course, which in turn was not liked by Omkara at all.
Rudra frowned, "okay okay..." He saw left and then right making sure no one was around he leaned forward and whispered.
"Please Maa kardo naa..Shivaay Bhaiya maarenge aur mujhe itnaa saara karna hai..please." He put up his very common cry baby face, pouting. Jaanvi pulled his ear. "DrameBaaz!"
"Okay but you gotta study and finish that today, Deal?"
Deal.par haan please ye secret. Agar bhaiyon ko yaan Papa ko pata chala toh meri O my Mata kardenge bina Choti maa ke help ke."
Jaanvi chuckled.
While Rudra engrossed himself into the book Jaanvi took the thick hardbound notebook and settled to write placing the textbook before. When she had picked up the book she had sensed something fall. She looked down. It was a yellow dusty envelope. She picked it up and blowing the dust off she peeped inside and brought out a letter. She looked at Rudra wondering which of his girlfriend's letter had he kept so safely. But seeing him concentrate for a change decided otherwise. And slowly she placed the letter on the diary amd behan reading it.
Her smile soon disappeared as she saw Rudra's handwriting and more when she read the salutation.
Dear Mummy,
Her heart skipped a beat. Rudra had written a letter and that to for her! She read.
Dear Mummy,
Yeh letter bahut odd hai. Par kyunki main kuch baatein kahoonga toh O ka copy cat lagoon gaa isliye yeh letter.
Aap thodi si cute ho
Thodi Karaari Ho,
Bahut cool ho,
Par thodi puraani bhi ho.
You are like the sweet cold drink in summer and warm blanket in winter.
Mushkil mein jab main hota hoon,
Toh aap roti ho,
Jab main kush hota hoon,
Tab bhi aap roti hoo..!
Kabhi samjh aati ho, Kabhi O ki Shaayri ban jaati ho.
Meri dil ki har baat bin kahe hi samaj jaati ho.
Meri choriyan pakdne mein der nahi lagti aapko,
Yeh bhi samaj gayi hongi ki issmein help kuch hogi Of O.
Aap kitni smart ho,
Ho emotional bhi,
Aap toh O ki art jaisi ho.
Everytime you came to school to pick me up,
Everytime you attended the Sports Day and see me won.
I never had to ask you for anything because you gave it to me before I asked.
Aap meri har confusion ke taale ki chaabi ho,
Isliye dediya maine mere sapno ka pura box aapko.
I know main naughty hoon,
I also know aap kam nahi ho.
I know main aapko rulaata hoon,
Par dont worry main aapko aaj se roz hasaaunga.
Today you and Papa fought because of me. I promise I will never give you a reason to be upset again.
I used to think, ki kyunki main...Aap bolti ho naa..Raaja hoon isliye yeh sab hai mere paas. Par aaj realise hua main Raaja isliye hoon kyunki aap ho mere paas.
Nahi main nahi ro raha wo aakhn mein kuch chala gaya hai.
Meri Pyaari Mummy Jo Hai,
Unsi Koi Aur naa hai!
Your Raja Beta,(Bas friends ke saamne wo mujhe mat bulana thoda old fashioned hai)
Rudra.
Jaanvi had turned slightly away so that Rudra did not see her crying in case he looked up. She excused herself and once she was alone in her room, she hugged the letter and cried smiling. Her dumbbell was emotional she knew. He never opened up she knew. He had a whirlpool within she knew. But the reason now came to light. That one day, the date reminded her. when Rudra was in high school, and had messed up his grades, Tej who wasnt in good terms with Jaanvi anyways had been furious when Jaanvi had taken Rudra's side. Only now she knew that Rudra had perhaps witnessed the long argument that had followed. She let those tears rush down, they came down her eyes but had been overflowing in her heart . a few minutes later she quickly freshened up not wanting Rudra to find the change. She walked back and sat. She had locked the letter in the safe of her cupboard. The envelope remained hidden in the book, while Jaanvi sat and wrote a reply. Maybe it would be much a delayed response, but time could never erase what the Hearts held. She looked up at him occassionaly and smiled as she wrote. Oblivious to him she slipped the letter into the envelope and left it back between the pile of the book. One day he would discover the forgotten letter and perhaps feel the same way she had just felt.
Smiling she got back to the task of finishing her son's assignment. While he worked hard to keep the promise to his mom.
P.S
Hope you all liked it.
Something Different Perhaps?
The inspiration was this song. Much of the letter had the lyrics.
Meri Pyaari Ammi from Secret Superstar.
Do listen to it, I m sure it might bring a smile to your face.
Many a times we have these Letters that we write that we are never able to post it to the person it is meant for and instead keep it hidden as our secret or erase it dissolving the secrets within our hearts.I have done it. Do any of you have stories of letters to share?
Would love to read. Pour in your comments and thoughts.
