aaj insightful analysis ki baarish.. Just read one good post from priya and now you..😊 I am big fan girl of GKS.. and this post typically sums up her entire personality totally. ITs mind blowing and I love love Gauri for being these
1. Being 5th grade pass she really has a bindass attitude, her self confidence is mindblowing even more than the oberoi women, collectively. She never is ashamed that she is this way and embraces her true self😊
2. She is witty, clever and has mindblowing presence of mind. She is a problem fixer and her tryst with internet chachi is cool
3. She is a fighter. She conned mighty KT twice and saved her own self respect. She isn't a damsel in distress and she knows self-Defense (My most impressive point for being a fangirl of GKS)
4. She is kind, generous, positive and forgiving
5. She is devoted to OM (though not in love), doesn't care about anyone being a hinderence in that (Even OM himself), doesn't care about lying if its with honest intentions. Doesn't get intimidated by anyone even OM himself
6. Best part is her practicality and determination for not forcing herself in this marriage when he doesnt accept it..

GKS is a perfect blend of Modern and traditional attitude..!!

Omg thank you for this!! I had absolutely no idea about the whole mythological/religious aspect of their dynamics- But more than that you have answered the question which has haunted my mind since the beginning of the show- why is Om in baggy, mellow clothes?! In comparison to the other two brothers he is pretty understated (okay as much as I try to word is nicely I did hate his fashion 😆 ) but now I understand through your analysis- it's thoughtful characterisation!

And tbh coming to Gauri- I don't think she's regressive, just that she's overtly compassionate- she feels and over feels every single thing! She is a great people person (I do feel sometimes there are logical errors on the part of the CV's but her character is so hard not to love)

Great post!!! 😳

Hi!
Interesting post. I'm not a Gauri fanatic,
and I'm certainly not a Gauri hater but I'm always up for some thought provoking discussion.
I hope you will consider my argument rationally and from an intellectual standpoint. For the sake of playing devil's advocate, I disagree with your assertion of Gauri as being unconventional.

Undoubtedly, she's a multidimensional character who is charming, endearing and lovable. Personally, I admire her assertive nature, but at times, I do find her overbearing.

No human being is flawless and that's what makes them interesting. Therefore, this constant hero worship of any character is somewhat nauseating. She's interesting, but is she unconventional?

Firstly, what do you define as being conventional? Every character is unique, with their own set of values, attitudes and personality. I don't believe that you can label any character as being conventional because they are all so wonderfully nuanced.

Furthermore Gauri as an ESFJ represents roughly 17% of the world's female population. It's not a high number but compared to the 7.5% of female ESTPs [Annika] and 3.5% of female ISTPs [Bhavya], Gauri is not that rare of a personality, scientifically speaking. Apologies for drawing the comparison, but I would not have done it, had you not drawn the implicit comparisons in your post. I prefer to be more frank.

ESFJs in fiction are not that uncommon either. Most mothers in popular fiction and media are portrayed as ESFJs; In fact, Pinky and Gauri belong to the same personality type. If you look at them carefully, you will see the similarities. Both are endlessly devoted to their husbands and really anyone they love. They live by a rigid set of personal values (not the same values because Gauri's certainly more moral than Pinky), and they suffer from deep rooted insecurities - Gauri's lack of education and Pinky's lack of education/class. Both women are also strongly spiritual as well. They also need relationships to be clearly defined and can be impatient and demanding. If two women on the same show are so similar, how is Gauri unconventional then?

I agree that Gauri is a beautiful woman and a wonderful character. She always brings a smile to my face. What makes all three of the female leads so beautiful are their differences.

Nice arguments. Don't want this to become a debate though, but since I did mention that bashers can come prepared, so sure.

1. Well, I didn't say her character was unconventional. Na uh, I said she is an unconventional 'Female lead'. I was talking specifically about tv serials and the FL's they have. Point to me one female lead in any TV serial in the last five years, where the 'lead', mind you, not the villain has faked her pregnancy and lied on such a huge scale (for a good cause no doubt, but its a big lie to tell).

2. Yaar, I'm sorry but I'm not well aware of thei ESFG, ESTP, and ISTP personality types.
So, I'll counter you on your comparison of Pinky and Gauri. Look I really think you need to watch DBO to understand Gauri but putting breifly, here are you arguments and here are my rebuttals:

a. Pinky and Gauri both are devoted: Really? Dear, you didn't read my post carefully, Gauri is devoted because its what her Shankar Ji indicated, and because Omkara saved his life. Pinky? if ruining her son's life so that she can get back at her cheating husband, is devotion then I don't know what to say.

b. Both have a rigid set of personal values: Yes, but their values are 'different'. Every human being has some values. Does that mean we are all similar?

c. Both are insecure: Gauri was never insecure about her education. She figured out that Omkara doesn't care. She was insecure about her right to stay in his life, and his house because he never gave her an answer as to why she should stay there.

d. Both are strongly spiritual: There is a difference here. Pinky needs to hear pravachans, and other random stuff which every religious person does. Gauri doesn't need spiritual guidance. She has her personal relationship with her Shankar ji, she communicates to him directly, and he is her friend, protector and confidante.

e. Both need relationships to be clearly defined, are impatient and demanding: Pinky is not impatient and demanding, had she been she would have left long ago for Shakti Ji cheating on her and forcing his illegitimate child on her to bring up.

Gauri and Omkara's marriage was always on shaky ground and Omkara never accepted it. If she was demanding then she would have never helped him as Chulbul and Gauri unless he gave her answer about their relationship status. She might have seemed impatient because she has been waiting for months for clarity on their relationship, but she never demanded an answer until now, now that Omkara's life is safe. Gauri is NOT someone who imposes herself on any relationship. When Omkara said she has no place in his life, then she left. You think Pinky would have left if Shakti told her that she has no place in his life? No, she would have stuck around because she wants the status of an O'bahu. Gauri did not want that status, she earned that status through everybody's love, and she respects their love and faith in her so she came back for them.

I agree every character is beautiful. Anika, actually is as much a favorite of mine as Gauri.
But this post was about Gauri. I have the freedom to hero worship any character I choose, you don't need to agree with it. I'm not imposing my fan-girling on anybody. You don't like her, cool, and I liked that you made sensible arguments, and we debated it out like civilized adults. 👍🏼

P.S. If you have anything more to say, please feel free to PM me. 'Cos it might be a long discussion, and this is after all an appreciation post, but since I'm ready to debate, I welcome your views on pm.
