To celebrate our 50th AT, I wrote some drabbles/ficlets for you guys. I miss writing here and this is me overcompensating for my absence 😆.

Rudra's magic words

PART II

Om threw the lump of clay aside. His lack of progress on his latest art project and his lack of concentration had nothing to do with the little boy who kept peeking in from the door. Om sighed audibly and wished for the hundredth time that Shivaay would be there to handle this.

Shivaay had left this morning, he a school trip to go to. He had tried to get away from it but Chote Ma almost threw a fit, complaining at how Shivaay had been neglecting his studies and social activities. For Rudra. She didn't say it out loud of course, she didn't have to. Shivaay had been spending his time with Rudra. Taking on the responsibilities the adults in the house neglected. He thought back to the conversation they had in Shivaay's room before he left for the trip.

"You would trust him with me?" Om asked quietly. He still haven't quite forgotten what happened a week ago. Shivaay had barely spoken to him after the incident. He made sure Rudra wasn't left alone with Om for too long. Om didn't want to admit it, but he missed having his brother around. Brothers, his mind corrected, you have two and you miss both of them. Om shook his head, trying to silence the thought. He caught Rudra looking at him but a second later the boy averted his gaze and clung tighter to Shivaay. I'm the monster under his bed, Om thought bitterly.

"I don't have a choice, do I?" Shivaay said, piercing the silence. And he really didn't. Their parents were too caught up in their petty squabbles to care and Dadi had her hands full trying to keep the peace. "You don't have to be nice to him Om. Just keep an eye on him, make sure he doesn't get into trouble,"Shivaay con tinued. Keep him away from trouble was what he said. Keep him away from your parents was what he meant. "I'll only be gone for 4 days. I'll be back before you know it".

Om sighed again. It's only been half a day and he already felt like snapping at the kid. Rudra kept following him around, trying not to be too obvious, but he was no secret agent. The way he kept peeking in at Om from the door would've been funny if Om wasn't so irritated. Om turned his attention back to his sculpture, trying to ignore the kid. Somehow he managed to work on his sculpture until his stomach grumbled suddenly. Om glanced at the clock on the wall. Small wonder, it was already 3 pm. The adults had gone for a business function and the servants knew better than to disturb him when he's working on his art. Om decided to grab a quick lunch before continuing with his work. He went out the door and almost tripped on a small body curled up on the floor.

Om stood staring at the sleeping kid, trying to make sense of the situation when something clicked. Shit! Has he eaten anything today? Shivaay had fed Rudra breakfast this morning before he left. And after that Rudra had spent his time following Om around. As far as he could remember Rudra had not left his side. Om wanted to kick himself. Great, Shivaay left him with you for half a day and you almost killed him. He woke Rudra up, trying to be as gentle as possible. Rudra opened his eyes; half dazed and immediately flinched away when he saw Om. Om felt a stab of pain at that but decided to ignore it. He took hold of Rudra's hand and dragged him to the kitchen. Fortunately, Rudra was either too scared to protest or too hungry to care. He sat Rudra on one of the dining room chairs. He didn't want to call the servants since that would have taken too long and Rudra isn't really comfortable around them. He racked his brains trying to figure out something simple to make. What does Shivaay feed him?

10 minutes later, Om put a plate of noodles in front of Rudra. "I don't know what you want. But this is the only thing I can make," he said. Rudra looked at the plate then looked up at Om. "Come on kid, you need to eat something so Shivaay won't kill me."

When Rudra made no move to eat the noodles, Om picked up the fork and tried to feed him. Rudra eyed him suspiciously. "It isn't that bad, I promise," Om said, groaning inwardly at Rudra's reluctance. Just as he was about to give up, Rudra opened his mouth and Om quickly fed him. Om handed Rudra the fork. "You can eat on your own, right? Finish the noodle."

To Om's surprise, Rudra took a bit of noodle with the fork and held it out to him. "That's okay kid. I'll eat something else later." Rudra kept his hand out, looking at Om with his huge eyes. What is he doing? Is that a pout?

Om sighed "You're not going to give up, are you? You're as stubborn as Shivaay."

You're as stubborn as me.

He reluctantly let Rudra fed him, earning the brightest smile ever from the kid. They finished the plate of noodles, taking turns feeding each other.

For each meal time after that day, Om started trying out different recipes. Not because he wanted to see the kid's bright smile at each new dish. Not because of the pride he felt when the kid finished off everything he made. No, definitely not because of any of those reasons.

He did it because, well...because...hmmm...because he just felt like it, that's all.

And when Shivaay came home from his trip, ready to take away his moments in the kitchen with Rudra, it wasn't disappointment and loneliness that he felt.

"Really Om. You fed him noodles?" Shivaay rolled his eyes.

"And what's wrong with that?" Om protested.

"You could've at least made him some pasta dishes. Honestly Om. I don't get your obsession over noodles. It's so...common." Shivaay said, disdain evidence in his voice.

"What would you like to have today, Ru?" Shivaay asked, not expecting Rudra to answer but including him in the conversation out of habit. "I'll make you anything you want."

Rudra bit his lips, then looked at Shivaay and Om before smiling widely.

"Noodles"

PART III

Shivaay walked into his room and was taken aback at what he was seeing. Rudra and Om. On the floor. Colouring. Together.

Careful to keep his tone neutral, he greeted his brothers.

"Hey Om, Ru,"

Ru looked up and greeted Shivaay with the biggest smile and the tightest hug. Om stiffened, and immediately dropped the crayon he was holding. Shivaay noticed Om's ears turning red. "You're home early today,Shivaay," Om said.

"Yeah, my friend cancelled at the last minute. You...seemed busy," Shivaay replied.

"Huh? What? Oh...hmm...yeah. He wouldn't stop pestering me. Not like I wanted to do it," Om said, suddenly busying himself with rearranging the colouring books and crayons.

Shivaay, knowing full well that no one can make Om do anything he doesn't want to, decided to stop teasing and turned his attention to Rudra. "Hey Ru, did you have fun today?"

"Yes!" Ru said, putting his hands around Om's neck and smiling brightly. Om did his best to look annoyed, but did nothing to remove Rudra's hands.

"Is Om a good brother?" Shivaay asked, ignoring Om's glare. "Yes!" Rudra giggled, snuggling ever closer to Om. Shivaay, having been at the receiving end of that koala-like hug, did not envy Om in the slightest. Well, okay, maybe a little.

"Hmmm...shouldn't you give him a gift? For being with you all day?" Shivaay asked again, barely concealing his laughter at the murderous look on Om's face. "Yes!" Rudra said. Then he tilted his head sideways, confusion visible on his face.

"Oh, you don't know what to give Om?" Shivaay said. "Yes!" Rudra said, nodding rapidly.

"Don't you give him any ideas Shivaay. I will kill you," Om said through gritted teeth.

Ignoring the warning, Shivaay bent down and whispered to Rudra, "Hey Ru, why don't you give Om a kiss?"

The look on both his brothers' face was priceless.

Finally AT is up. Wow congo shongo Lee/Rudra and Rulets for 50th AT. This is just the beginning still there are more milestones to conquer keep moving like this 😳.
