I have never understood how and why the internet audience puts down trp audience...because it's not as if the former likes seeing really new progressive shows...if the trp audience like regressive stuff then so do we,it's just that the regressive shows are of different kind...if they like seeing the bahu get tortured by her mother in law then we like seeing our female leadsmisunderstood,belittled,manhandled,tortured by arnav or asad or that highly misogynistic character in your dp whose name I forget...so don't you think you can put down indian audience like this and think that you are oh so better than them...audience that wants new and/or progressive content can be found both in indian and in the west...there are so many indians who find the content of indian tv horrible and rightly so imo,they do not even look at indian tv shows and instead prefer western shows like GOT or sherlock or breaking bad or some web series...similarly audience for saath nibhana saathiya can be found both in india and in the west..just see the number of UK viewers that watch the daily episodes of saath nibhana saathiya...the hotstar viewers(those who live in india as well as those who live elsewhere) lap up ishqbaaaz too...you clearly are ignorant of ishqbaaaz's popularity on hotstar...and this popularity could not have been achieved if only people in india were interested in it.So, don't generalize the indian audience...if shows like SNS and ishqbaaaz and naagin do well here then there is emergence of web channels like The Viral Fever too whose shows are immensely popular with the youth of India(one of their series has reached top spot in IMDB ratings for highest rated tv/mini-series)...and don't think the overseas audience is oh so better and progressive than us because they watch shit like saath nibhana saathiya and ishqbaaaz too.
And I don't think TRP audience is representative of general Indian audience anyway cuz those TRP meters are only placed in few thousand homes and they have not been installed in some states yet. This TRP system itself is very flawed. The 'taste' of a few thousand people don't decide the taste of the entire >1 billion people of India. It's a gross generalisation. So many shows are killed/deteriorate in quality for this TRP pressure, hence I prefer watching web series too. And finite shows.
