Disclaimer - I love SSO as the next girl on this forum and have been mad about his eyes from his PKDH days. So this is not SSO bashing post. 😳
This Post is on Anika and it is going to be pretty long. So those of you who wants to read it, go on.
WHY ANIKA IS NOT A QUINTESSENTIAL INDIAN SOAP HEROINE?
Lets begin at the starting. Anika has all the qualities of a quintessential heroine. She is poor, she is irritating sometimes, she is bubbly, she needs to solve everyones problems, she is the guardian angel and she is the saviour. Then what makes her different. What makes her a Nayi Soch (Well I believer SPs Nayi Soch Campaign is a joke but still chalega. 😆)
I did not fall in love with Anika from the first episode. I was like yeh kahan se aagayi, an amalgamation of all previous Guls heroines. But she changed my perceptions.
The first time I fell for her was the way she told SSO in rain, how he lost.
Her Exact words were, "Zindagi Mujhe nahi hara payi toh aap kya harayenge."
As an independent working middle class woman who has to struggle everyday I connected with that line like magic. That was when I fell in love with her character.
The second time Anika made me notice her was when she gave it back to SSO by spending his money on his marriage. Logical minds may ask why encash it in the first place. True but drama hain, TRPs bhi chahiye na. Thoda tho chalta hain. 😃
Third scene that I loved my sherni was the cheque scene.
I kept telling people in ShivIka AT that this dialogue is the best. (I know Gul makes a joke out of Woman empowerment always but this scene had a much necessary impact about that topic)
MERA NAAM, MERI PEHCHAN, MERI WAJOOD MERI MEHNAT KI KAMAYI HAIN.
This is not about the surname issue at all for me. It was about independence. I work bcoz I want to make a name for myself. Money is defo necessary but still there was a lot more than money involved in a girl working.
Fourth scene where I fell for Anika completely is the scene where she describes her opinion on Love. I know many did not like Mallika track. But had it not been Mallika, had it not been her track, we would never have seen this scene.
It was about a hardworking girl who knew romance in her life was impossible. Knew that nobody would love her and settle down with her with all the responsibilities she had. Yet the wishes of the heart are sometimes beyond logic. How she wished someone would love her, would have her as number one priority, how she wished to sit in a corner and smile. All these little things this girl wanted, I fell in love with her that day completely.
Because Anika was real. She was a part of me. She is probably a part of every middle class working woman out there.
Yes she has her dull moments also, she irritates like hell, she has her own eccentricities yet she is real.
Today, when everyone is talking about how heartbroken and upset SSO is, I would like to talk about Anika Rather.
We all know she was rather pushed to this decision. She took that decision alright. But the person to be the most hurt is also her. When she cried her heart out today and hugged Sahil, I felt her pain. She is a self respecting independent woman and for her the continuous insults by SSO were too much.
First SSO hurt her trust by doubting that she faked the stalker attack. For a person like Anika to show her vulnerable side to SSO, it was a BIG Deal. Trust me it was. And he broke it to pieces. Yet she gave him a chance and called him when being attacked again. With no fault of SSO here, he broke her trust again.
Second giving money to a woman like Anika will defo hurt her Self respect and that was what Tia beautifully planned and executed. Again with no fault of SSO.
Third, Daksh. Well I was one of those excited people when news about a new entry and a possible jealousy track came. But I wish otherwise now. I do not believe in love at first sight crap. And had Daksh really loved Anika, he would never have used her vulnerable state of mind to get a yes to his proposal. He would rather be supportive of her and would have led her to eventually trust him. But no, the guy is a creep alright.
People may question why the hell I am talking about SSO when he is at no fault here. But SSO is at fault. He knew exactly what he was doing when he proposed Tia in the manner he did. He has no right to expect Anika to be single and always around him, waiting upon him hand and foot, while he is engaged to Tia and happily dancing at his own Sangeet. He had no right to expect her not to accept Dakshs proposal. Yeah I know that knowing and experiencing are two different things.
So to conclude what have we got. Anika has three options in her hand,
1. SSO,who is so selfish of his own needs and prejudices and ready to believe the bag of lies that Daksh will showcase him to prove that she will prostitute herself for some money.
2. Daksh, a creep who claims to love her and wait for her forever, yet demeans and damages her character behind her back. (Probably the stalker also)
(Ladki ki izzat ka mazzak banane ka itna shouk hain)
(I know many here will say ShAni are engaged and can do whatever the hell they want. I agree with them but after seeing the segments and the execution of the ONS, I am actually pissed)
3. Why need a guy? Please go away and be independent. A guy does not define a girls happiness or future. Just stay happy and away from hurt.
PS - For all those who made it till the end, I offer my apologies for wasting your time and please share your comments and if you indeed want to beat me with eggs and tomatoes, please send fresh ones so that I can make tomo breakfast with that. 😆😆
PSS - There have been inconsistencies in her character also. Like why the hell she lied about the ONS with SSO or why the hell she even returned to OM for work, but I would rather overlook those as mistakes on CVs parts in destroying a beutiful character they made rather than as Anikas Mahanta.
