I have been watching this show for a few days and I have been entertained to say the least 😆😆
The show is antithesis to everything I like in a show, it is too loud, too dramatic, too OTT but despite all that & my issues with characteristions, I still enjoy it and find it morbidly fascinating.

Now that I have added my caveat let me sink my teeth into the flesh of my post.

The characterisations of the show are all over the place and the one characterstic which defines each character is exaggerated in abundance. Shivaay's anger, Anika's naivete, Om's goodness, Rudra's childishness, these traits define each character but in my opinion are exaggerated so heavily that the CVs dangerously veer into the territory of making them caricatures. And I have a whole another problem with Ishaana, she is too loosely scripted for me to form an opinion of her . She doesnt inspire love or hate from me and to me indifference is the worst emotion.

In my opinion, among the guys, I think both Shivaay & Om(contrary to popular opinion) can be written better. In Shivaay's case his black shade is too black and his white is too white. Trying to create a realistic character ,the grey shades have to shine, the guy can be prejudiced & a snob without being a school- yard bully though in recent times, I think his characterisation is rounding off to the grey.

With regards to Om, I just find him unrealistically white though there are flashes of grey( his dealings with Svetlana) but I would like to see more grey shades from him.Grey shades are not negatives, almost every human being has a variety of grey shades in us, so while I understand TV as a medium needs to exaggerate shades, I think the characterisation needs more complexity.

Yesterday I found Rudra's characterisation the realest, with him snubbing Saumya, 20 year old rich spoiled boys behave like that for the most part, peer pressure is too real & they are pretty hormonal & immature where pretty young things > well-intentioned warm hearted healthy girls.

Please feel free to disagree, I love alternate opinions but please do put forth your arguments as mature adults.😆

Heya Adhi! Long time old KY2 friend :P

Didn't know you were watching this...word on the morbid fascination...actually for me the morbid fascination stems from how much lamer and one-dimensional it can all get and so far Gul is totally living up to those expectations👍🏼

Most of the characters are one-dimensional caricatures walking around like programmed robots with Gul Maata switching gears mid-way as she pleases...I almost feel sorry for the actors😆

You are bang on about how the characterizations are all over the place with exaggerated one-note aspects to most of them...the level of dumbness they've bestowed on Anika is a new low even by the usual "naive" FL standards...the only saving grace is that I feel the actress does a good job of working with whatever she is given.

Omkara...lol sorry I can't take him seriously with his seriously coiffed hair...I mean when I can tell the obvious amount of curling iron, hairspray and pins that go into setting a guy's hair, I can't be expected to take him seriously😆

Agree with you on Rudra...he's actually the most typical character of the three but atleast he's true to his typicalness and doesn't strive to be a put on "serious/deep" character like the other two...also the guy has decent comic timing, gets the best one liners of the three for now.

My question is why do the brothers just wander around randomly all day just giving running commentary on things...lol and the level of repetition in this show of the same question over and over again...after every scene, one of the other characters...usually Omkara are seen repeating questions and scenarios out loud as if they are trying to muse about the theory of relativity or something...lol...the level of "intelligence" is too damn high in this one I tell you.

Ok since I'm usually accused of being negative all the time, I'll end on a positive note...for the first time Gul has managed to put together a halfway decent song for the leads...that actually moves beyond just one random repeated phrase...lol...I like their song.

Hey Anu😛, fancy seeing you here, I really don't know how Ishqbaaz happened to me, I guess it was a combo of turning the tv on( SP being one of the channels I get on tv) combined with a need for a desi show fix 😆 It helps that the show is light-hearted for the most part unintentionally at most times, since I am kind of short of time. The show is really exaggerated isn't it? It's hard for me to take it seriously which works fine for me in the present scenario😆

Surbhi Chandana is a pretty decent actress, I have watched her in a few episodes of QH2 & she played a deaf/mute character , pretty much an antithesis to Anika and I think its her acting for the most part that saves Anika, also to some extent Anika' spunk. She doesn't ham which is a great relief to me😆

The characterisations indeed are all over😆 take Omkara for instance, he in one instance is portrayed to be this perceptive tree-hugging social cause believer & yet is being taken for a ride by two women which puts his perceptive ability into question. This makes his idealistic beliefs a little superficial & more utopian than practical.

The music is pretty good, I quite like the piano interlude they have been playing recently too, does create a nice atmospheric feel to the scenes its being played in.

Morbidly fascinating is right. 😆 You've echoed my sentiments with regard to Shivaay and Omkara. While the former is being moulded into the typical angry young man avatar (with liberal doses of angry), the latter sounds too good to be true.

My biggest grouse with these two has been their inconsistency in dealing with different situations. Shivaay is introduced as the arrogant, ruthless corporate shark who doesn't care a whit about things outside the realm of family or business. In fact, in the initial episodes he's completely indifferent to Annika as she is of a lower social stature than himself, but a couple of days later, he's busy hounding her over the chip debacle, without putting his supposedly sharp mind to good use. Make that personally hounding (he has quite a lot of free time and I'm yet to see him working in an office/cabin 😆). He's the heir to the richest business empire in India, but loses all the aura of apathy once the FL walks into the frame. Also, he forgets his fetish for space when he's busy getting in her face, cornering her or twisting her various appendages. That is one way to usher in the love story, I guess. RIP logic! 😛

While Shivaay is the aggressive man-child, Omkara is frankly quite unbelievable. I have nothing against good characters, but this guy doesn't even fit into the spectrum of white. It irks me that Om is portrayed as the sensible, mature guy who is not blinded by anger, but comes off as this naive individual who sees the good in everyone (even when they are faking it). 😕 His scenes with Ishana are examples of the same. There are so many people in the world who walk around with a woebegone face, but out of all of them, Om zeroes in on the girl who's out to con him. And lets not even talk about his girlfriend. For someone who has a deeper understanding of human emotions, Om is easily taken in by tales of woe/hardship etc. After the dysfunctional relationship between his parents, shouldn't Om be extra careful while choosing a partner? He's being fooled by two females and is clueless about both their intentions. I pity the guy now, because he was one of my favourites when the show started.

The hair looks good, though😉

Annika has been fun so far, as has been Rudra. Ishana's characterisation is fluctuating between two ends and I guess the CVs are now trying to whiten her after introducing her grey shades. Isn't it anathema for any FL to be black or even grey on Indian TV? In one episode she is excited about conning Omkara and a few days later, she mentally apologizes for cheating him. WTH? 🤢 As far as she is concerned, Om is just another rich guy she's out to exploit. The residual guilt makes her character inconsistent as well.

Rudra is the most relatable character till now. Most 20ish spoilt rich boys would have a similar disposition. I think the actor is doing a fine job of bringing Rudra to life on screen.

Having said all this, I'd like to add that the ObBros together are a fun bunch and make the show endearing to watch. Even with all my complaints, I think that is why I cannot help but catch the successive episodes everyday. 😃

Genie linked me to this thread, that's how I landed here...lol

I"ve seen Surbhi's work in QH before too in the few epis I caught of whatever iteration of Zoya ki betis that was...she did a good job of playing a quieter character there...I've also seen her work in a movie...Bobby Jasoos...girl can act...and she's doing well here playing a polar opposite character too despite the level of "nuance" only a Gul heroine can have👏

I probably shouldn't get started on Omkara since the whole forum seems lattoo over him...for the most part it comes across as if the writers have no idea what they are writing from one day to the next in terms of the characters...like they take a couple of shots, write a few pages, take a few more shots, pass out and lose all memory of what they wrote previously...great writing talent, this.

But yes, no doubt it makes for constant hilarity...ppl spout random disjointed stuff from one scene to the next and there is no expectation of making head or tail out of it...for them it's not ignorance but sheer mindlessness that is bliss😆

Re: music...yep that piano interlude is good...the original score so far is better than the random insults to classic songs they do by playing it on the characters...Satte pe satta on the brothers, classic Kishore kumar songs on random watching the rain fall/crying sessions😕😆

It is indeed morbid fascination, I am not one 4 OTT shows & this one is Loud with a capital L. It is entertaining in its own dysfunctional way, without taking it seriously. Ishana should have been an unapologetic con girl, maybe conning for the fun of it😆, what the hell is wrong in that😆

I like the brothers fine when they are jibing at each other but sentimental stuff overdose is a little too cheesy for my liking.

Im not a big fan of svetlana because she is pretty one-dimensional too as an antagonist & I can't look past her lip fillers.

Trust Genie to keep u on track😆
The writing has been weak to say the least, its hard to take the show seriously when apparently the writers are not taking it seriously, seems like there are a bunch of people writing the show & they are handed an outline of what is expected in a scene😕

It is sheer mindlessness, entertaining for the moment but I will probably hightail out of here when the hilarity stops & the melodrama takes over
