PART 3
Kabeer's POV:
He knew he couldn't stop running. Her body was limp and she was quickly losing blood. He had to save her life after all she had saved him from becoming a victim of his nightmares. It was his farz...to save the one who had saved him.
He didn't care about his fatigue or the fact that his hands were covered in her blood. He couldn't give up, for her life depended on him and him alone...
For the first time in 10 years, his cold, broken heart had started to beat. It was faint but he knew it wasn't dead like it had been for the last decade. He couldn't betray is heart yet again, he had to protect her. With her head sliding down his shoulder he stopped and adjusted the girl in his arms so that he was carrying her in a bridal style.
The irony began to seep in; he didn't mean anything to her.
Why was he doing this? Why was his heart beating for her?
At the hospital
Call the doctor, it's an emergency!' he screamed as soon as he entered the hospital. He was frantically searching for a doctor, a nurse, anyone who could bring her back to life.
This way sir, Hurry! Lay her on the bed. She is lost a lot of blood'
Sir you will have to wait outside.' ordered the doctor.
Kabeer couldn't help to notice the bride's veil sliding off her face, he rushed back to her side and adjusted it ever so slightly so that her privacy could be respected.
He couldn't bear to leave her, he knew he meant nothing to her. He knew he hadn't even seen her face. But despite that he felt as if he was leaving a part of his heart behind. He turned to leave but this time he felt a tug at his arm. He glanced down to see her net chunri entangled with the black thread around his wrist.
The black thread which held his mother's essence.
The thread his mother had tied on his wrist on that very night 10 years ago. In a daze he stared at the intertwining, remembering his mother's words,
Kabeer, ye tumhare liye.
Hamesha pehne rakna. Allah humesha tumhari hifazat kare ''
With that she quickly uttered a prayer and blew on him with her cool comforting breath.
A stern voice shook him out of his flashback.
Sir you have to leave, she is in a critical condition and we need to start the operation, Please wait outside!' commanded the doctor.
Kabeer tried to free the thread and the fabric which resulted in the thread slipping off his wrist. He held it to his lips and then decided to place it on the girl's porcelain wrist. He knew she needed the blessing more than he did.
After holding her hands for a couple of seconds, silently asking her to open her eyes, he rushed out of the ward and into the waiting room.
He sat on the cold bench with his head in his hands. Strangely, he felt alone yet again but he told himself he was always and will always remain alone. For it was what he deserved.
All his life he had kept himself away from others for their own benefit, to protect them so he knew he had to protect the innocent girl fighting for her life inside the operation theatre
The nurse gently tapped his shoulder, bringing him back to reality.
Sir, the doctor says your wife will need an emergency operation, her life is in danger. We need you to sign some forms at the reception''
Tears stung his weary eyes; he couldn't bear to hear that her life was in danger. Would she be saved? Would the operation be successful?
Had he misheard the nurse call her his wife?
He signed the papers and decided against telling the staff he was not her husband. They might just delay the operation. He couldn't risk it, not with her.
He wasn't sure what was right or wrong but she had to live and he was going to make sure of it. He fire in his eyes was provoked as he made his way to a place he hadn't set foot in for what seemed like an eternity.
At the Mosque.
The wind blew as if it was angry with him and a storm began to brew as he ran to the nearest Mosque.
He stood tensed at the stairs; he had not step foot in any Mosque or Dargah ever since he lost everything he held dear. All those years, he didn't have the strength to enter without the very people who guided him to his faith.
Without a warning he was transported back in time.
Flashback
A tall muscular man adjusted the white cap on his head and carefully placed his shoes outside the entrance.
He turned to face a messy haired boy staring at him in confusion, and smiled with pride.
Abbu where are we?' he pouted with innocence whilst his eyes beamed with excitement.
The man crouched down next to his son and held his hand out to him.
so that you can thank your Lord for all the blessings he has bestowed upon you, my child
Whenever you feel lost or helpless, remember after All hardships there comes relief...'
Without any hesitation the little boy clutched onto his father's fingers as he led him inside the mosque.
Flashback ends
Those words continued to haunt him. Would he ever receive the relief he sought? Would he ever be forgiven?
He was scared to enter but with one glance at his hand he saw her blood and was reminded him of the torture and injuries inflicted upon her.
She didn't deserve this, she couldn't die and he was determined to demand for her protection.
He stepped inside and dropped to his knees.
'I know I'm a sinner. I have never complained to you, I have never asked you for anything.
Today I just want you to save that girl. Save her life! Please it's my only request.
I suffered silently through everything, not once did I ask why...
But today for the first time I'm asking you to perform a miracle.
My mother said you always protect others. Please protect her!''
With that he fell into prostration, in submission to God.
Shattered with his overwhelming emotions he headed out the Mosque after praying, he told himself had to stay away from the girl, he couldn't hurt her like he hurt his loved ones years ago. Those who came close to him, had only received pain, and he couldn't bear to be the reason for her pain. He vowed to leave her in return for her safety.
Just then his phone began to ring with a name 'Kashan Bhai' on the screen.
Kashan, his brother, the only family who didn't hate him. Why was he calling so late at night? Kabeer answered the call and heard Kashan's shaky voice
Kabeer, its Amaan,...we were in an accident, I... We're at Delhi hospital'' with that kashan broke down.
Karan was shell-shocked, he was in disbelief, Amaan his nephew was fighting for his life..
He ran back inside and cried in pain.
I asked you to save her but not at a cost. Is there nothing but hardships written in my life?''
He turned to leave but a powerful aura wouldn't let him, he tilted his head back to face the sky in an attempt to plead once again.
The rain began to pour from the heavens above, the smell of the fresh earth filled him with a sense of fulfilment. Maybe, just maybe his prayer had been heard. The gently rain drops washed away his frustration and awoke the determination in his heart...
''Vaada kiya tha dil se,
Uss jaan ki hifazat karun ga,
Aab bhule ga kabhi nahi,
iss raat mein daard jo mila tha'
