The list of awardees, however, says that Akshay was honoured with the award for Rustom alone, and not Airlift
Strangely, Akshay was declared as the winner for his film Rustom alone.

Akshay Kumar, who the popular awards have eluded for years, is now the proud recipient of the National Award for his performances in Airlift and Rustom.
Strangely, Akshay was declared as the winner for his film Rustom alone. This has left a lot of Akshay's friends and collaborators confused.

Raja Krishna Menon, who directed Akshay in Airlift says, "I thought he only won for Rustom. If he has won for Airlift as well, then I am over the moon. Akshay
definitely deserves the award. He's worked hard all these years and delivered some really great performances and in Airlift, he really pushed the boundaries to reach a place that very few actors reach."The National Award jury's helmer, Priyadarshan later made it clear that Akshay has been awarded for two films.

"Akshay has won the Best Actor award for both Airlift and Rustom. Because of technical reasons, only Rustom was mentioned in the list of awardees. But he has given contrasting and extremely sensitive performances in both Airlift and Rustom, and we thought it was only fair to honour him for both," says filmmaker Priyadarshan, a long term admirer of Akshay's work " they've collaborated on many comedies from Hera Pheri to Khatta Meetha.

Priyadarshan says he was very impressed by the films in two languages this year. "The Bengali and Marathi films submitted to us were truly outstanding. I'd say these two regions led the awards race. There was unanimity about giving the best feature film award to the Marathi film Kaasav and the best director to Rajesh
Mapusker for the Marathi film Ventilator. The Marathi and Bengali films were ahead of all the other languages. The only competition they faced was from Malayalam cinema," says Priyadarshan.

Is this a joke? 😲 Over Manoj Bajpai in Aligarh, Aamir Khan in Dangal, Nawazuddin In Raman Raghav 2.0, SRK in Fan, Randeep Hooda in Sarabjit, and Sallu in Sultan??? None of these actors won, but Akshay did for Rustom? 😳 😕 Have the National Awards lost their credibility? 😵

Did you like his performance in Rustom, Zajie? Don't get me wrong, he acted well in the movie. The National Awards are the highest calibre of awards in India and mean even more than the Oscars.

I admire this actor & the person himself. He comes across as humble & genuine, worked
Hard & has come a long way to make a name for himself in this industry.
I really enjoyed watching him & Twinkle on Koffee witn Karan, this season..😛
I have not watched both movies. Need to catch up on some recent good ones..😳

Mish, I don't think he was deserving of the National Award in comparison to his contemporaries. He's a good actor and has given consistent performances over a span of years. I truly give him the credit for his hard work, but to place him in the same ranks as Manoj, Aamir, and Nawazuddin is just wrong. I'm literally shocked by his win. 😲

Yes ... a little unusual role. I viewed that way but I'm thrilled story. Him, I used to watch in all the roles, but here I was thrilled. Naval uniform he stands fantastic. uh, by the way I said again that I am a big fan of India and the Indian cinematography and series creates everything related to India I love.

Priyadarshan Defends Akshay Kumar Getting The National Award, Insists The Actor Won It On Merit

GARIMA SATIJA
APRIL 08, 2017

The nation seems to have been divided over Akshay Kumar's national award win. While some people expressed their happiness on social media, there were others who thought that he didn't deserve it over actors such as Manoj Bajpayee (Aligrah) and Aamir Khan (Dangal). Some even trolled him brutally in the same regard.

Now filmmaker Priyadarshan, who has collaborated with Akshay Kumar for various films including Hera Pheri, Bhagam Bhag, Garam Masala and Bhool Bhulaiyaa amongst others, has taken a stand against those questioning the actor's win, after many attributed it to his closeness with Priyadarshan, who is the Jury Chairperson in Feature Films category.

Defending his stance, the filmmaker said, "I have heard of all that and I will answer it in a simple way. When Ramesh Sippy was jury head Amitabh Bachchan won. When Prakash Jha was head of jury, Ajay Devgn won. So none questioned at that time. So why all these questions are cropping up today."

Furthermore, he clarified that that the decision was made keeping in mind Akshay's performance in Rustom as well as Airlift.
