Indrani has always spoke up when it was about other widows - but she is very watchful when its about Dhaani coz there is Dulaari, her mother, and she has more rights over Dhaani than what Indrani can say or do. Well ,about going to mela secretl one after another , none of the widows were right away interested when Viplav asked for the first time- they were scared to go because they have never done that before . After Vidha left, slowly they also started wanting to go and then one by one they left for mela. I dont think they did not go earlier because of Dulari's shouts or because Indrani said not to go.

Regarding slapping , I agree , in the world we see day in and day out , people dont slap their grown up child at the drop of a hat. But here were are talking of Benaras where widows are ill treated every single day , and we have a mother who is very much uneducated and very backward in her approach towards life that she just doesnt see any need and is very scared of society and its evils to think differently from what probably her ancestors taught her and followed about vidwa dharm etc .

She would be a strong opposition to Dhani marrying Viplav in future - not in the grey sense that CVs seem to be showing now but in a sense that the fear of society is so much ingrained in her that she just cant see anything- not even Dhani's happiness. In my mind , i think she needs a person like Indrani to counsel from time to time for her to slowly warm up to Vidha relationship.
