IKRS 25th August 2014 Episode 14 My Take
Have to say yet again.. to me the promos are most off putting.. I can see the logic of promotion ,it's pitched towards attracting more viewers but constant promos also give you repetitive boredom of what to expect well beforehand.. To me it seem telling of the existing episode. The fun of prediction is pulled out as we already know what's to come..
What was refreshing to see in today's episode was the widows , snapping out of their blind faith stage. Faith is seen as proactive and practical. Badi amma realizes it is a piece of legislative decree... that orders their eviction from this shelter ,their home for many years. She shows wisdom, as she looks out for their rights. She understands the protection offered to them as tenants, within the law. Thus, faith supports their bid to undertake lawful measures to nullify the threat they face. In the process they seek professional help to fight their case. yes they face a hardship.. that legal aid costs money ,which the widows do not have. The solicitor gives them the amount of fee required. The widows realize , they don't have the price he requires. But it's a glitch and they require to meet to decide upon the organization of the monies.. badi amma uses the powers invested in her as the guiding figure who rallies the widows and suggests a way of raising up money.. voluntary giving of personal possessions to make up seven thousand ruppes.. it's interesting to evaluate how united a front is, in times of a crisis. the majority shows willingness to a common cause and concern. However there always are those like Rajlaxmi and Swarna who focus on their selfish gains rather than the collective concern of others..
At Viplav's household he stands up for the united front and common concerns and unity within his family. He exercises inclusion of all his family members, like his father and sister who are mostly the excluded ones on the wishes of his mother who takes her orders from his grandad.. he ensures they accompany him to the airport. much to the angst of his mother!
At the ashram even during the instability facing their way of life. They stand huddled together ,drawing strength from each other under the leadership qualities of bade amma. While at Viplav's grand house , Kanak spares not a moment of scattering the family.
The watch that shuttles back and forth , turns up once again in the story, this time it symbolizes the change in Viplav's mindset regarding the treatment of widows, in his home town.. how brilliantly he refers to the winds of change .. about time the law of human rights should be applied in his hometown too In the same frame , he speaks about the watch as being special.. a present from his grandad. The watch is on his wrist close to his body and keeps him abreast of the times.. and his grandfather's love and expectations of him over a passage of time.. However this very watch will bring forth the times when Viplav one close to his grandfather, will raise challenging times ahead for Dashrant..
At the ashram innovative times take shape too.. to make up the shortfall of money. Right from what they have at hand, making tapers. But, as in small working groups there are the movers.. who perform and motivate like Dhani and others. There also exist the shakers who disperse the effort put in ,like rajlaxmi.. mind you here she is seen to point out the fact that the toil in making tapers will not amass the monies needed! The task is stopped so that the predictable option suggested by dulari and reinforced by Dhani is taken up instead.. appeal for help from their saviour and god dashant!
Thus begins Dhani's journey towards her destiny .. to the widows so called god! not a minute is spared as she runs.. the slippers that carry her break! Perhaps as a sign of providence stopping her! but that she does not do. Her sheer determination to suffer for the collective benefit of her fellow widows makes her carry on the in journey bare feet! Viplav moves away from her.. drives to the airport! but his forgotten wallet makes him turn right back! to where she is heads!..
More challenge for Dhani as she is stopped from entering her gods house! but then what will be ,will be..
Dashrant hears the wincing animal at his door step! and allows her to cross over the threshold into his marked territory! The poor animal submits before the hunter.. ready to be devoured by his lecherous looks and evil designs.. all the hunter sees is the frail young vulnerable deer! Totally and utterly in his evil power! .. he wants to touch her to bless her.. but stops.. has evil eyes on her.. views his prey from all angles.. Dhani shows her destitution. His plotting has paid off as now he feasts his eyes over her crying face.It gives him a warped carnal pleasure! his hands ache to feel her young fragile frame.. but somehow her God protects Dhani from the vile touches of the sickly evil Dashrant.. as she pours in water through the glass into her mouth.. his being too craves for her to quench his devilish immoral thirst! She wastes no time and makes her need known.. but then he has his heinous needs too ,that this fresh young fawn can fulfill! he makes her a proposition.. more money.. is she aware of his underlying meaning? as she only accepts what is needed.. He gives what she needs but ensnares her for times to come..
Now this episode to begin with was shorter than usual. If the last section is meant to shock? I was not quite sure. it didn't shock me ,as Dashrant has a very restrained ,dignified type of vileness about him.. The scene didn't shock as much as it left a bad taste in my mouth. Iisha did a great job in the last scene.
