6.30 pm Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede. A contest that promises a whole lot of excitement, but tonight the main attraction is the likely return of Jasprit Bumrah. And not a moment too soon for MI, who have lost three of their first four matches. The IPL's slow starters are entering need-for-speed territory.

Fairly full Wankhede, not a lot of crowd outside when I walked in about half an hour ago," says S Sudarshanan from the venue. "Jasprit Bumrah looks all set to play. The first thing he did after walking in was head towards the stumps at the pavilion end and do a bit of shadow-bowling. After that, he marked his run-up at both ends along with Trent Boult and Mitchell Santner."

18:30 Local Time, 13:00 GMT, 18:30 IST: Two teams on either side of the table meet today in what should be a big clash between two evergreen franchises. It's 3 v 8 as the Indian Premier League returns to the Wankhede Stadium for the mouth-watering clash between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The former have played one and won one at their home ground this season while their opponents tonight haven't lost on their travels as yet.

Despite three loses and a solitary win, MI have only been boosted ahead of today's game. Jasprit Bumrah has been named fit enough to be a part of tonight's encounter, Rohit Sharma, who missed the last game against Lucknow Super Giants, has also recovered in time and so has Tilak Verma, who battled through an injury himself. But it is the return of Bumrah which will have direct consequences, not only the bowling line-up now looks complete, the fear factor that he brings to the table could well bring in a major shake-up in MI's fortunes. Already smarting under three losses, they can't afford more setbacks and Bumrah's return could just act as a rejuvenating factor. On the other hand, the Royal Challengers are coming off 'yet another home defeat', thus bringing some of their momentum to a grinding halt. They've won both their games on the road, but they're in front of a stiff challenge tonight. Bumrah hasn't bowled competitively since January 5th and his performance could well be the deciding factor on what should be a run-fest in the making.

Mumbai Indians have had Jasprit Bumrah on their books for more than a decade. But they need him now more than ever. Especially with Rohit Sharma struggling, Tilak Varma scratchier than usual, and the batting and bowling not quite doing enough collectively.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru do not have that instant shot in the arm to cling on to. But their problems do not seem as far-reaching or campaign-threatening either, although they, like MI, arrive having lost their most recent encounter.

Defeats, of course, are a part of the IPL, and are often meant to be learned from, rather than fretted over or frowned upon. But…if RCB slide off the wrong end tonight, that all-too-familiar feeling of a false dawn may be tedious and tough for them and their fans to escape.
