Here are some of the key points to note:

- The auction will begin the full round of Capped players by speciality -- batsmen, all-rounders, wicketkeeper/batsmen, fast bowlers and spinners, and then move into a full specialism round of uncapped players. The accelerated process will start after player No 86. The first accelerated process will cover all the players from 87 - 405.

- According to the BCCI, the franchises will be asked to nominate a set number of players from this group. Once these players (87-405) have been presented, franchises will be requested to submit the names of players (unpresented / unsold) from all those on the full list of 405 for further accelerated process.

- Out of 405 players, 273 are Indians and 132 are overseas, of which four players are from associate nations. The total capped players are 119, uncapped players are 282.

- Franchises are required to have a minimum of 18 and a maximum of 25 players and the minimum squad spend must be INR 71.25 crores. The maximum a team can spend on squad acquisition is INR 95 crores.

405 players in the auction

It was originally a list of 991 players which was later pruned to 405. As per the curtailed list, there are now 19 players at the top base price of INR 2 Crore. There are 11 players in the INR 1.5 Crore bracket while 20 players will be up for grabs at a base price of INR 1 Crore. Meanwhile, nine players are in the INR 75 Lakh bracket.

Impact Player and player availability key factors in mini auction - by Vijay Tagore

There is an odd resemblance between a mini-IPL auction and the theory of inflation in economics. If the latter, as the definition goes, is about too many dollars chasing too few goods, the mini-auction sees too many crores chasing very few players.

The deciding factor for the price would be the order of picks at the auction and more crucially the availability. Less than 24 hours for the hammer to be wielded and the paddle to be raised, the BCCI has not informed the franchise about the duration the overseas players will be able to stay in the IPL. On occasions, the BCCI would communicate about this a week earlier so that the franchises can do their planning but this time it has taken too long for the teams' comfort. "That is the way the BCCI does, we cannot do anything," rues a helpless official of a team.....

How the Tie-break rule will work

An unexplained aspect of the auction is the tie-break rule which will lead to a Silent Written Bid. It can come into the equation if two or more franchises are locked for bidding for a player but do not have sufficient funds. Click above to read the explainer.

Player availability

BCCI has informed the franchises about the availability of the players for the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL), and it turns out that barring Sri Lankans and Bangladeshis, players from other countries will partake for the entire duration of the tournament. The Australian and English players, in particular, will be available fully for the IPL. That is despite the looming Ashes series starting mid-June.

Hello, everyone. This should be fun. Strap in. The first set will comprise capped batters. Mayank Agarwal, Harry Brook, Ajinkya Rahane, Joe Root, Kane Williamson and Rilee Rossouw will be on offer. Englandโ€™s Brook is perhaps the most exciting prospect in their set, having excelled with England in Pakistan and with Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League. Brook is also part of Joโ€™burg Super Kings for the upcoming SA20.
