Arjuna & Eight-formed Siva
Kirata comes
One day after the fifth month, Arjuna opened his eyes and saw the Kirata form of Siva and the huge mass of women. That's when shukara appeared and Arjuna shot it as did Kirata. Kirata was angry at Arjuna and said that he was already targeting the boar when Arjuna broke the rules of hunting and shot it. Now Arjuna has to pay. Arjuna said that when the Kirata had drawn the bow, he realized that this is no ordinary Kirata. Soon Kirata covered him with arrows which were repelled by Arjuna.
Then Arjuna with his arrows wounded the Kirata. Suddenly, there were hundreds and thousands and multitude of Kirata forms, Arjuna then wounded them all and they all collapsed into EKABHUTA.
That one form vanished when Arjuna wounded it. Then that Kirata took a very small form but his temple or front of face was very large. Then he became very large but very small head or temple. Similarly, Kirata recycled through a series of described Siva forms and faces. Sometimes Vamadeva, sometimes Pinaki, sometimes Sveta, sometimes Shikhandin, sometimes Attahassi, et all.
When Siva had gone through multiple moortis, he swallowed Gandiva and the quivers themselves. Rendered weaponless, Arjuna still attacked the Kirata in wrestling and in exchange of hand attacks (definitely a form of Karate or boxing but with hand open and not closed in a fist, it is also described in couple of other places in Mahabharata) Arjuna realizing who the deva purusha is and fell on his feet. Laughing, Kirata vanished and in his place stood Siva himself.
>Siva and Uma appeared in their divine forms and Siva blessed Arjuna "O Conqueror of enemies, I am satisfied by your tapa and skill level. Please take this bow and quivers of yours back. I wish you to ask any boon in the world. Ask any boon except immortality.
>Arjuna confessed that his heart is always in the knowledge of weapons and requested that he get to know all weapons available to Devas. Lord Tryambaka replied that " Not only the weapons of Gods but all, each and everyone of the Divyastras will be known to you. There will be no Divyastra which you cannot use, call back, repel, use as prayashachita and suborn to your needs or revive after Pratighata.
>Siva then further elaborated "My Raudrastra will himself go and become part of your inventory. Then Siva with great happiness, also gave the Great (Mahan) PashupataAstra to Arjuna.
>"O Warrior, In Astra-yuddha, you will have no rival. Kurushrestha, you are always alert, focused, skilled in every kala, have control of your senses and are always truthful. Not only you have this knowledge of weapons, you do not have the arrogance but incredible bravery to go with it. You will know all five Vidhis and the fifteen Astras and no one else knows these. Thus, you have full knowledge of Prayoga, Upasanhara, Avrati, Prayashchita and Pratighata.
>Siva also asked Arjuna to not use the weapons on humans. Especially PasupataAstra, which if used against a lower skilled warrior will go unchecked and destroy the world. Even other weapons, no one should use the divine weapons in any human conflict. Only when attacked by huge numbers and on all sides, to protect your own life, only the divine weapons should be used. The warrior using divine weapons when not in peril is not a true warrior.
Pashupata Astra
Soon, the Pashupatan Astra appeared in divine form and stood next to Arjuna. Siva introduced Pashupata Astra to Arjuna and then Arjuna sat down and mentally consumed the knowledge of weapons.
>Pashupataastra has three heads, three temples, Nine eyes, Six arms. His hair is burning like sun. His clothes are made of large alive serpents. His yagopavita was another great Naga. When you unleash it, it takes hundreds and thousands of forms.
>Huge and powerful Deer, animals, Lions, Tigers, Bears, Buffaloes, Serpents, Cows, Sharabhas, Elephants, Vanaras, Bailas, Shukaras, Bilavas, Wolves, Preats, Bhurundas, Vultures, Chamari Cow, Devatas, Rishis, Gandharvas, Pishachas, Yakshas, Rakshasas, Guhyakas, Nishacharas, Matasayas, Gajomukhas (Men with faces of elephants and bodies of men), Owls, Meeenas and Horses would appear each having many weapons and swords in their hands. Then would appear Gada and Mudgara wielding Yatudhanas.
>Some would have three heads, some four jaws, some four faces, some four arms, some just skeletons, some made of flesh, some of plants and some medha. They then would attack the target and destroy it.
>Because this weapon spawns these creatures, they need to satisfy their blood lust so using them on lower level enemies would not satisfy these terrifying creatures so they will continue unchecked and destroy the whole nature. Thus, Pashupata should be used sparingly and with very extreme discretion.
Other weapons mentioned:
The SthurnakarnaAstra: this is the weapon of the Rudra Shankukarna. It is the most powerful of Raudrastras bar one. That one also was given to Arjuna.
Jaalastra: This is Jalavarshaka astra, a variant of Varunastra.Jaalastra is offensive and Varunastra is defensive.
Sharvarshastra: This creates clouds who continually shower arrows like real clouds shower rain.
Shalabhastra: This is the Locust like weapon. Like thousands of Locusts swarm and then attack and destroy the vegetation. This astra creates thousands and millions of arrows which take over the horizon and sky and then direct themselves to enemies like locusts direct themselves to vegetation.
Ashmavarsha: This is variant of Sharvastra where instead of arrows, the rocks are dropped like clouds drops hail.
PER BORI CE ARJUNA WAS not DEFEATED BY ROBBERS
Well as we all know that our Mahanayak Arjuna has many haters who very well know Jishnu was incapable of getting defeated even by the gods still they are saying that according to BORI CE Arjuna was defeated by robbers.
This post is divided in four parts :-
1). Misconception about "Vimna Partho"
2). Meaning of every word used in the shloka
3). Mistranslation by Bibek Debroy
4). Correct translation of the shloka
1). Misconception about "Vimna Partho"
Here's the meaning of
Vimna = Cheerless
http://sanskritdictionary.com/...
http://spokensanskrit.org/index.php...
Here's the meaning of
Vimana = Aeroplane/ Flight
http://spokensanskrit.org/index.php...
So as you all can see, Sanskrit dictionary defines Vimna as cheerless not flight but as you all know our illiterate blondries are expert in misinterpretating the texts and mistranslating verses to fool the public.Blondries can't even read properly what is written in the shloka that's why they consider vimna and vimana to be of same meaning
So now we can safely conclude that Arjuna was cheerless that's why Vimna is used because it means disappointed not vice versa.
2). Meaning of every word used in the Shloka
Here's the Shloka from BORI CE which is mistranslated by Karna fans :-
64
Now here is the meaning of words used in the shloka :-
:- Became
:- exceedingly cheerless
:- Partha
:- Regarding it all as the work of destiny
:- Ceased
:- He then
:- o king
:- to make further efforts, saying, he had not the power which he had before
3). Mistranslation by Bibek Debroy
Here's the translation given by Bibek Debroy of this shloka :-
Partha was cheerless and thought.O king! He started to retreat and said, "This is nothing but destiny. The immensely intelligent one collected the remaining wives and the remaining jewels and went to Kurukshetra.
Here Bibek Debroy has himself added the word "retreat" in the translation which is evident from the fact that none of any word used in the shloka means retreat or fled away as per Sanskrit dictionary. So it is clear that Bibek Debroy has mistranslated the verse.Bibek Debroy is a great scholar and he did a lot of hardwork in translating BORI CE in English but afterall he is also a human being like us so he can also make mistakes while translating the verses
4). Correct translation of the shloka
Here's the correct translation of the shloka :-
Regarding it all as the work of destiny, he became exceedingly cheerless. He then ceased, O king, to make further efforts, saying, he had not the power which he had before
KMG also gave the same translation of the shloka. Here's the link :- www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m16/m16007.htm
Not only KMG but P.C Roy also gave the same translation of the shloka.
Conclusion :- As per BORI CE and KMG as well Arjuna was never defeated by robbers
Arjuna was never defeated by the robbers in Dwarka. But he failed to protect the Vrishni ladies from the robbers.
Some people think that Arjun failed to lift the Gandiva, which is incorrect, not written anywhere in Mausala Parva. If he failed to lift the Gandiva then how come he return it back to Varuna deva in Mahaprasthanika?
Yes,its written that Arjuna had a great difficulty in stringing the bow,but that was because hundreds of robbers attacked him at the same time when he was trying to string his bow(Mahabharat Parva 16,Chapter 7,Sloka 55)
It's also a known fact that Gandiva could have been stringed only by Arjun,Bhima and Shri Krishna and no fourth human. (Mahabharat Parva 3,Chapter 12,Sloka 77)
Arjuna tried to invoke his divine weapons, but none of them appeared. (Mahabharat Parva 16,Chapter 7,Sloka 56)
Then Arjun attacked the robbers with his arrows, very quickly his quiver of arrows got exhausted which was inexhaustible. (Mahabharat Parva 16,Chapter 7,Sloka 61)
Even after all this,Arjuna did not gave up,he attacked the robbers with the horns of his Gandiva bow and started killing them. (Mahabharat Parva 16,Chapter 7,Sloka 62)
Arjuna managed to save the primary wives of Shri Krishna but since the robbers were in thousands and Arjuna alone was practically weaponless(Just had a bow,no arrows,no celestial weapons),he could not save the remaining women and wealth which robbers stole.Arjuna became sad on this and went to Ved Vyas.
Now the question is,Why did Arjun's celestial weapons didn't work? Why did his quivers of arrows became exhausted which was once inexhaustible ?Why did Arjun lost the strength of his arms? Why Arjuna failed to protect remaning Vrishni women ?
Ved Vyas tells us the answers -
Vyas tells Arjuna that his weapons have achieved success,so they have returned back to the place from where they came from. That's why his arrows got exhausted and his celestial weapons did not appear. Arjun's job on earth was over, that's why his weapons were taken back, when time will come,he will again get the weapons back in his hands. (Mahabharat Parva 16,Chapter 8,Sloka 35-36)
Arjuna failed to protect the remaining Vrishni women and lost the strength of his arms against robbers because those women in their previous birth were cursed by a sage to get kidnapped by Abhiras. Boons and curses are bound to happen (Mahabharat Parva 16,Chapter 8,Sloka 27)
Apart from this,Ved Vyas in the same chapter says that Arjuna is an undefeated warrior and he does not know even a single incident where Arjuna has been defeated,Perhaps that's the reason he is called '#Vijayaor #Undefeated'. (Mahabharat Parva 16,Chapter 8,Sloka 6)
P.S: Vyasa himself said "I do not know that thou hast been defeated by anyone."

the battle between Sire and son, Arjuna vs Babruvahana
After reaching Manipura, Arjuna fought with his Babruvahana as part of his task. Arjuna wished not to slay Babruvahana under the order of his elder brother and also because of love towards his son. At last, Arjuna fell down into a deep swoon. It should be noted that Arjuna was not slained here. He just fell down into swoon.
The delighter of the Kurus, Dhananjaya, deeply pierced therewith by his son, then fell down in a swoon on the Earth.
www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m14/m14079.htm
When Babruvahana was weeping with grief on the account of the battle with his father, and also thinking that he slained his own sire, Ulupi, the naga princess comforted him by saying :
The daughter of the prince of snakes taking it up, uttered these words that highly gladdened the combatants standing on the field. 'Rise up, O son. Do not grieve. #Jishnu has #not been #vanquished by thee. This hero is #incapable of being #vanquished by #men as also by the #deities with Vasava himself at their head. I have #exhibited this #illusion, #deceiving your #senses, for the benefit of this foremost of men, viz. , thy illustrious sire. O thou of Kuru's race, desirous of ascertaining the prowess of
thyself, his son, this slayer of hostile heroes, O king, came here for battling with thee. It was for that reason, O son, that thou wert urged by me to do battle. O puissant king, O son, do not suspect that thou hast committed any, even the least, fault, by accepting his challenge. He is a #Rishi, of a mighty #soul, #eternal and #indestructible. O dear son, #Sakra himself is #incapable of #vanquishing him in battle.
www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m14/m14080.htm
Now comes the reason why Arjuna felled into a deep swoon against his son.
Ulupi said :
Formerly, O ruler of Earth, I heard this said by the Vasus while they were in the company of Ganga, O thou of great intelligence. After the fall of Santanu's son, those deities, viz. , the Vasus, coming to the banks of Ganga, bathed in her waters, and calling the goddess of that stream, they uttered these terrible words having the sanction of Bhagirathi herself, viz.,--Santanu's
son Bhishma has been slain by DhananjayaFor this fault we shall today denounce a curse on Dhananjaya.--To this, the goddess Ganga readily assented, saying,--Be it so!--Hearing these words I became very much afflicted and penetrating into the nether regions represented everything to my
sire. Informed of what had happened, my sire became plunged in grief. Repairing to the
Vasus, he solicited them for thy sake,
repeatedly gratifying them by every means in
his power. They then said unto him,
'Dhananjaya has a highly blessed son who,
endued with youth, is the ruler of Manipura.
He will, standing on the field of battle, cast
Dhananjaya down on the Earth. When this
will happen, O prince of snakes, Arjuna will
be freed from our curse. Do thou go back.
www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m14/m14081.htm
The curse of Vasus was the reason for the so called 'Defeat' of Arjuna. All the curses should be respected, so is boons also. Babruvahana in fact was not a match for Arjuna. No one was able to defeat Arjuna except Arjuna himself. A son is ones ownself. It is because of this Ulupi arranged a battle between Arjuna and Babruvahana. Neither Arjuna was defeated nor killed in this battle.
