The wedding of Mahalakshmi-Narayan
Devi Lakshmi garlanded a vaijayanti-mala,made of aromatic and divine flowers ,around the neck of Lord Vishnu,and all the Gods,Asuras and the creatures gathered over there,cheered ,when they saw the reunion of Devi Lakshmi with Lord Vishnu .
For keeping the nectar[amrit] with the Gods,Vishnuji took the form of Mohini,to enchant and trick the asuras.Devi Lakshmi was surprised to see this mischief of her Swami.While distributing the amrit among the devas ,an asura ,Rahuketu ,sat in the row in the gard of a deva and drank some amrit.Then Chandradev and Suryadev caught him red-handed,and Lord Vishnu then took his original form and used his sudarshana chakra upon Rahuketu , separating his head and the rest part of his body.
Then Lord Shiva declared that ,as Rahuketu had consumed some nectar,he would remain immortal and would cause the solar and lunar eclipse.,on a regular basis.
Then came the time to celebrate the auspicious marriage ceremonies of the divine couple.Devi Lakshmi herself applied the turmeric paste over Lord Vishnu's body.The river Goddess Ganga and Saraswati ,then bathed Devi Lakshmi and decorated her beautiful body with all the sparkling jewels.She wore a gorgeous piece of golden-red saree and her lotus-like eyes[padmakshi], were filled with tears of joy and excitement.
Her father Samudradev , gave a grand welcome to the varyatra ,consisting of all the devatas,asuras and other creatures ,including the other divine couple--Mahadev and Mata Parvati. Brahmadev performed the duty of a priest along with the saptarshis ,and chanted all the verses.
Lord Vishnu and Mata Lakshmi ,then performed the holy saptapadi and took the vow of Dharma ,Artha ,Kama and Moksha.Lord Vishnu applied the vermillion powder on Devi Lakshmi's maang and tied the mangalsutra round her neck. Lord Shiva declared that these rituals of marriage are to be followed in every marriage and every bride is to be considered as Mata Lakshmi and the bridegroom as Lord Vishnu,
The Gandharvas started-off their musical concert and the Apsaras performed in joy.Mata Parvati made the divine couple sit on the rajsinghasana ,and there begun pushpavarsha upon the divine couple.Lord Vishnu gave a mischievous smile to Devi Lakshmi and she blushed in happiness.
