That channel is one of the top that gets to make a mockery of women, w/ serials like BV, SSK, and so on. This channel will be doing the Durga serial?

Good thing about it - given the shabby way DkDM has shown the stories of both Durga & Kali, this is one way it could be rectified.

On the choice of actress, the best choice would have been Sriti Jha, since she's just exited her current show, and could therefore be active in this one, instead of putting a debutante into this role.

But a serial? Other than the stories of Mahishashur and Shumbha/Nishumbha, how many other stories are there? Or will they make it quasi-fictional, like MSDK?

1. No bechari bahuranias, scheming saases or what have you
2. No cheesy sequences featuring various devis twirling around in circles with a trishul over their head and their buttocks-length hair flying every which way, as was popularized in those god awful South Indian devotional films from the 1980s.

The channel is Colors, whose serials compete w/ LifeOK and erstwhile ImagineTV for being misogynistic. Let's see what they do.

Even I am wondering how they will show a whole serial on Durga. It would have been better had the show been on Devi Bhagawatham so that all the forms of Devi could be shown accurately without too much creative liberty.

In fact, DkDM itself was supposed to be a serial on Sati. After presumably thinking it over, they decided to make it on Mahadev & family, and have drawn from all possible sources, including themselves.

Now, if the makers of this serial change their mind and make it about Shiva, they're not gonna match the DkDM cast. The best they can do is an authentic story, but then the question of their sources would arise. And they too have not been above making things up.

I don't know if they'll make it about Shiva, but they're definitely going to have an actor for Shiva. I agree Mohit Raina is the best Shiva we've had so far and it'll be pretty hard to beat him, but I wish Amit Pachori is chosen for the role in this show. He's a pretty close second to Mohit Raina and I loved him in AS Ramayan.

That's the issue with having "Durga" in the title. Had they called it Adi Shakti or something it would have seemingly given them more levity to tell the stories of Parvati and her various incarnations as Kaushiki, Chamundi, Bhadrakali, etc.

They could also tell the peripheral stories of the sapta matrika (ie. Brahmani, Vaishnavi, Maheshwari, Varahi, Indrani, etc.) and mahavidyas. Like Nav Durga, I am not really familiar with their individual stories. I don't really think there's much material there. In my mind, they are just epithets glorifying the goddess like the Lalita Sahasranam. I mean, are there really entire legends behind Maa Kushmanda and Maa Chandraghanta? I never encounter those names outside the Navratri circuit. I suspect there will be a lot of story fabrication going on.

Yeah, had they dropped Durga from the title, and just made it 'Jai Jag Janani' w/o using any names, be it Durga, Parvati, Chandi, Ambika, Kali, et al, it would have been more suitable.

They will have a Shiva, but I doubt it'll be Amit Pachori. It'll be tough to get Mohit, though, unless they fish out someone totally new for the role.
