B.R. Chopra's Mahabharat

Mahabharat is one of the world's greatest epics – and India's most successful serial ever.

The 94-part epic tale dramatically portrays the extraordinary adventures and spiritual journeys that gave rise to Indian culture and is based on the 100,000 verse poem by Himalayan mystic-philosopher Rishi Ved Vyasa -- known within India to be the fountain of all knowledge.

The series originally ran from 2 October 1988 to 24 June 1990. It was produced by B. R. Chopra and directed by his son, Ravi Chopra. The music was composed by critically acclaimed music director Rajkamal. Each episode was approximately 45 minutes long. It followed the highly successful Ramayan broadcast in 1987–1988.

It was shown in the UK by the BBC, where it achieved audience figures of 5 million, unheard of for a subtitled series being aired in the afternoon. It was also the first programme broadcast on BBC Two after its 1991 revamp, but was also shown late at night on BBC 1 the previous year.

Good publicity of YOUTUBE.COM. I think India should have their own web like youtubeindia.com. It will make us proud that our country have its own place where we can upload our things...

I have an YouTube a/c dedicated to Hindu mythology, but currently populated only by AS Ramayan. Recently, Imagine TV on its YouTube page uploaded the entire serial. Since they are the owners, and it's unlikely that their video will ever be taken down (barring a rift b/w them & the Sagars), I decided to make playlists of the entire serial broken up by Valmiki-based kandas (Tulsidas might have been usable as well, except that he had nothing for the Ram-Rajya section: his Uttarkand is the kagbhushandi story.) Of course, some of that would be wildly inaccurate, like the swarna-kamal episodes, but hey, that's another story 😆
