I am so disappointed in Udit Narayan. He being such a successful and efficient singer was not able to voice his opinion and was easily influenced by JA and AM. With 22 years exp. in singing shouldn't he at least have a mind of his own? Alisha did better.

Rude persona for a judge

"In a show like Indian Idol, I would have to be rude," New judge Udit Narayan explains why he took one year to make up his mind.

It took Udit Narayan one year to say yes to becoming a judge on Indian Idol's season 3.

The reason Udit thought long before taking it up is because he did not want to mangle his nice guy reputation with a reality show that sometimes forces a judge to be blatant and harsh.

Udit says: "My image in the industry and in people's minds is of a person who is cool-tempered and polite. I never speak rudely to anyone and this is just who I am. However, in a show like Indian Idol I would have to be rude. I would have to tell some contestants that they are not capable of taking up singing as their profession and they should consider another means of living their life."

The maestro was worried that audiences would accuse him of being big headed once he started judging: "I don't want viewers to say that 'after judging the show he has totally changed and got an attitude etc'. The day people knew I was one of the judges for the auditions they started calling me saying their children were coming and I should take care of them. They said they knew I was a good human being. I have taken one year's time to become a judge because I don't want to destroy my image in people's minds."

Surprisingly, good guy Udit considers the sometimes rude Anu Malik a great judge saying, "There are so many times when I am confused during auditions and I don't know how I should comment to the contestant but Anuji is always superb. He is doing things straight from his heart. He fights on behalf of participants with the judges if he feels they are worth it. At the same time when he feels that a contestant is not talented enough he will be straightforward with him and tell him not to waste his life chasing a dream that will not come true. He is teaching me to become a judge." concluded Narayan.

I found this article on him at indya.com, and in a way, i think it explains his actions. I just hope he starts giving his own opinions soon.....VERY soon...

It was disheartening to see someone of Udit's caliber keeping mum and getting influenced by Anu's foolish judgment. May be it is true after all 'it is not necessary that all good singers make good judgments'.

I think Udit Naryan is just a wee bit nervous about his first TV appearence...but i found that he did give some good comments about some singers' abilities...he knows his job as a singer...but will he emerge out of the shadows of Annu and come out on his own remains to be seen!

I also didnt like Uditji getting influence by anu malick but lets give him a chance. It was only the first episode. Lets see how it judges in the future episodes. May be because of the first episode he was cautious and didnt want to rub anu the wrong way(dont know why though), so agreed with him most of the times.... let see how it goes from today... hope he judges as per his liking and not anu malicks.

that could be the reason, i was expecting udit to give more feedback, i dont even know why alisha is being selected for judge 😆 😆 😆 she is a great pop singer but still, that fan who came was really a die hard fan of hers 😆 😆 😆
