Husein Kuwajerwala of Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and future Indian Idol 3 co-host, on why he's a mover and shaker
He started modelling when he was in college but it didn't excite him to take it up as a full-time career. "At the end of the day, a model just has to keep looking good. That's why I didn't consider it as a serious career," says Husein Kuwarjerwala.
He got a break on TV and was soon seen on four prime time shows; Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Krisshna Arjun, Kumkum and Kuch Kar Dikhana Hai. Today, Kuwarjerwala has proved to be a complete entertainer. He acknowledges that his role as Chirag in Kyunkii Saas.. got him noticed. Says he, "It's amazing how a good serial does wonders to your career." He also hosted Kismey Kitna Hai Dum with Sonu Niigaam before replacing Aman Verma in Khuljaa Sim Sim and will coincidentally replace again as Indian Idol 3 co-host with Mini Mathur. Kuwarjerwala says, "I was nervous. It was my first big show as host and it was a challenge to take it to further heights from the platform it had reached." Winning the recently concluded dance-based contest Nach Baliye 2, Kuwajerwala and his wife Tina have performed at Kolkata, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. Hussain says, "Our choreographers are the prime reason why we won Nach Baliye . They deserve to showcase the talent. Another reason why I love performing at shows is because I get quality time with Tina." Speaking of the recent Microsoft show, he says, "It was an honour to perform in the same show as Akshay Kumar and Urmila Matondkar. It was an honour to be asked to dance with them. It's very seldom that TV actors are part of such shows." He also hopes to perform abroad. He says, "TV celebs have a huge international market. It just has to be tapped in the right manner." Hussain is very proud of Tina and will support her in her acting career. Leaving the decision to her, he adds, "She has done a commendable job and is a fighter. She has received amazing support from the industry and viewers. But TV is too hectic and one requires a certain mind set for it." He also hosts Zee's reality show Shaabash India. "The show's USP is that it is about Indian heroes. As actors, we fake our strengths but this show has real people who achieve the impossible," he remarks. He states that he recently watched repeats of Krisshna Arjun, in which he played the bumbling detective, "It was my favourite show. I hope they make a new series." Hussain will soon be seen hosting the third season of Sony's talent hunt show Indian Idol. "The shoot is still to begin, currently I'm busy with my earlier projects and my dance shows," he says.
