This seems like a made-up controversy. Ehsaan of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy fame recently said that Sonu Nigam was sending feelers that he wanted to sing the famous 'Khaike paan banaraswala' number in Farhan Akhtar's 'Don'.

Even Udit Narayan, who finally sung the song, commented that he had heard Sonu was upset about losing out the song.

Sonu, who's been out of town for a while, is surprised with Udit's comments. "I don't think Uditji must have said that. I respect him. I guess it must be a publicity gimmick," says Sonu.

But is that true that he was trying to poach the song? "In fact, this song was sung by Uditji long before I got to know about it. But yes, I once jokingly told Shankar, who's a really good friend that if you are not singing it, I would love to lend my voice to 'Khaike paan banaraswala'," explains Sonu.

In fact, the singer feels that Udit's voice suits the song. "His voice definitely suits the song because it is rustic and he brings in the required accent," says Sonu.

Meanwhile, the singer, who recently turned RJ, is now looking at cutting down work. "I want to be selective work now. I might be rubbing people the wrong way but I can't help it. I have been singing for so many years that I need to be doing better work now - much better than what I am doing."

See guys there is no rift or anything...its just made up

thanks,shyama.there was a sonu special on radiocity(bangalore)where he mentioned that shankar has a great soul,one of the nicest people he ever met.that 'tanhai' was his first song with SEL.he loves that song but 'kal ho na ho' is his fav.he also mentioned that shankar was one of the best singers today.shankar pretended to be a fan and came on air and really pulled sonu's leg.
so....I was a bit confused and disappointed with the controversy.i am glad it is over. 😊

Well, this can VERY WELL be a publicity stunt. We all know how some writers are; they tend to exaggerate to the point of vomiting. But the thing I am confused about, is that Udit Narayan "supposedly" commented on something that probably might have not happened. So does this mean that this article writer made these comments up for Udit Narayan?😕 Anyways! I just forgot about this whole situation until i saw this thread. Udit Narayan and Sonu Nigam are in my top 3 singers list, and they are simply the best in their own ways. I just heard the album of Krrish, and I am in love with Udit's Chori Chor Chupke Chupke and Sonu's Pyar ki Ek Kahani😃 Peace out everyone😎

EDIT: Oh yeah, and Shreya Goshal's voice in both of the above songs is to die for😛
