Second runner-up, Karunya, won't let defeat get him down
How do you feel after losing the Indian Idol contest?
It is not shocking at all. I knew, for the last three days, that Sandeep would win. But that does not mean that I am not talented. I saw the support Sandeep received during his homecoming. Not only his own hometown but his whole state supported him.
What about your home state? Did you expect more support from that end?
They supported and voted for me in the final stages of the contest. I have got the maximum love and support from people all over but only God knows why it has not been reflected in the votes. I have no clue.
Are you disappointed?
Why should I be disappointed? I've got standing ovations and some very good reviews from Sonuji, Farahji and Anuji. I have been compared with bigwigs like Shanker Mahadevan and Sukhvinder Singh, and at such a young age. Right from the gala rounds, everyone touted me as the Indian Idol. I have got all the recognition I could have asked for. I know that people love me the most and that's the important thing for me.
You have always been compared to Abhishek Bachchan. How does it feel?
Right from the piano round, I have been compared with Abhishek Bachchan. I have enjoyed the comparison as I never believed that I was good-looking and being compared to one of the hottest stars today is heart-warming. But I want an entity of my own and at the end of the day I want to be known as a good singer rather than a good-looker.
When do you plan to come out with your album?
I still don't know, but talks are definitely on. I am looking forward to a lot of playback singing, shows and albums. You will see a lot more of me and that's a promise.
