Idol Worshipping With Abhijeet
The Indian Express- sponsored Abhijeet Sawant Live concert on Saturday saw hordes descend at the venue. The Indian Idol did not disappoint
Upalparna Dey
"Instead of thinking about winning, the participants should focus on giving their best performance. If they have the talent, success will follow," Abhijeet Sawant sends out a mantra for the many wannabe singers vying to be like him. Sawant was in Kolkata on Saturday to take part in a concert sponsored by The Indian Express — a show that had his Kolkata fans descending in hordes at the auditorium and hounding the singer till the green room. Shows like Indian Idol have become the lifeline for many an aspiring singer, he says. "There is a lot of pressure on participants, which often stop them from giving their best performance. But I think participants should focus on singing rather than on makeover if they want to win," says the boy, who became the national heartthrob after winning Indian Idol. "Good voice is not the only requisite to make it to the top. To reach the top you have to put in a lot of hard work."
Reminincing about his Indian Idol days he says, he had put in a lot of hard work which has today helped him become confident and professional. "Being an Idol is not an easy job. It's a package. It is not just the possession of one quality, but a combination of many qualities that makes you an Idol." Life, he says, changed after winning the show. "Earlier people knew me as just another guy, now I have suddenly become the Idol. From anonymity to being recognized as the Indian Idol, I think I have achieved my dream." Yet, he insists, he has not changed as a person. "I still hang out with my friends, and try to give as much quality time as possible to my family." For the young singer who has trained in classical singing under Bhavdeep Jaipurwale, becoming a playback singer is his ultimate ambition. "I would like to concentrate more on films than albums and work with all the talented music directors in the industry like Anu Malik, AR Rahman and Himesh Reshammiya. "My aim is to be recognised as a person with talent and I think I have got that." On being asked about his book Aapka Abhijeet, he says it is about his journeys. "It's a biography written on me and my journey to where I am today. Read it!" As for his date on Valentine's Day, he says, "I would be performing for my fans. There is no one special yet. Now it's time to concentrate on my first love and passion: music." http://cities.expressindia.com/fullstory.php?newsid=169709

Oh PLEASE!He talks about contestants should concentrate more on vocals rather than make-overs. Well...He should seriously take his own advice & wait a minute....If I recall correctly, he was the same Abhijeet Sawant who said Ruprekha needs to lose weight. This is just my opnion.

Rooprekha is no longer in any competition.. that is why he said that.. and the participants in Indian Idol is still in a competition, and should focus more on that insted of looks at the moment.. I agree totally with Abhijeet 👏

Thats besides the point. And he said after he sang with Ruprekha, while she was still in the running. Abhijeet is barely a year old in the music industry, he shouldnt make statements as if he is THE singer & he in fact not someone who should be judging singers. The reason he won is because of his fans who kept on voting, it has nothing to do with talent.
